- There's a lot going on in today's episode. First, Newbern and I attempt to build new shelving in the shop and attach it to the concrete walls using a high-powered nail shooter, which doesnt work at all. In fact, the 2x4 wood falls right off the wall before we can ever stack any boxes onto the shelves. Since that wasn't working we decide to head to Mo's Speedshop in Dallas, Georgia, to fix the tune on my 1967 Chevy C10. It was running real bad and although it took several hours to figure out why, in the end the Chevrolet Performance LT4 made over 640 ft-lbs or torque at rear tires, which is awesome!
Here's a link to the crate engine that's under the hood of the C10:

Your better off to use Tapcon screws for vertical surfaces. The nail gun is better for horizontal to keep to hold the bottom plate from kicking out. Also, if you are securing lumber directly to the concrete, it's a good idea to use pressure treated lumber to keep it from rotting from moisture between the concrete and the lumber.
You are correct
I concur it is best to use tapcons on anything you want to permanently affix to concrete and definitely pressure treated lumber
100% correct. Another cheaper method is a predrilled hole like a tapcon but you can use a piece of wire and a spike. If you get the size of the hole right it has unbelievable holding power. Spikes usually take a 3/16 hole and piece of wire.
The over the top method, is to use a water based rising damp sealer over any bare concrete that you intend to seal.
We are in a wet area, and rising damp is common. We use a product called moisture fix that is applied with a knapsack. Absorbs into the concrete, and reacts with chemicals within the concrete to create a waterproof membrane inside the concrete.
Cut nails and a mini sledge
LMAO I'm a building contractor. You made my day. Now I don't feel so silly when I work on my race truck.
Exactly you “nailed” it!😊
Hammer drill and tapcon screws 👌🏻
Tapcon plus liquid nails will never come off. Everything in my garage is built like that and the shelves are seriously overloaded.
I use this too, any other method often fail on me
In the south they try to figure out the easiest way witch doesn't work half the time. Prechilling for a tappcon or concert anchor is the way to go.
@@weaverkevin5462 .."Prechilling for a ......concert anchor"?
@@paulcopeland9035 lol I imagine he meant to type 'Predrilling'
Damn the truck was about to come off the front of the rollers, I always put the wheel just behind the peak of the roller so when you get on it it climbs to the top of the roller perfectly, but you killed it as usual, love you guys keep it up 🤘🇺🇸
I was surprised they were using only 2 rear straps for that much power as well. But I am just a keyboard warrior.
You don’t want it directly on top of the roller, it will rock side to side and mess up power numbers.
@@draykewoodgeard5854 even worse to have the tire an inch from hitting the ground and either breaking those straps or doing a burnout on the dyno (either would end badly) don’t you think?
@@lanceweyel879 I work for Kenworth truck company in ohio and we dyno the truck that come off the assembly line you want the tire down as far as it would go without the tire touching the floor, but you still have to have a little space for the tire to expand under load
Ah, Ramset guns. The best tool for installing nails into concrete and opening padlocks.
Nice to see the C10 breathing a bit easier. Now to get that back end bouncin'.
shooting cast concrete does not always work but if you are going to do it you need to put all youre weight into the gun when shooting so that it cant recoil otherwise it usually just blows out or curls the pin. I would suggested some good old fashioned masonary bits and red head brand drive pins.
Might be an idea to get Kevin KSR to remote tune or video call in to tune it.
Kevin knows his stuff👌🏻
Jeremy from faster proms.
@@GradyRho92 it's on Holley & Jeremy is HP Tuners, that's why Cleetus uses Kevin for his Holley cars👌🏻
It's atrocious that Holley supplies such a shitty base map for a plug and play GM crate like an LT4.
But as always you see these issues when people who have not done DFI tuning tries to treat it like MPI. They always wash down the cylinders and run things way too rich.
Here in Europe we have known for years that DFI needs a much leaner A/F ratio compared to MPI etc.
@@AB-80X because when you buy a holley ecu you’re expected to have the vehicle tuned obviously… the “base tune” is only to start the vehicle up nothing more.
@@lanceweyel879
I know they expect you to tune it. But a base map is for more than the first fire at idle. I’m if you know the engine, which Holley does, it is not hard to make a basic run map. This map was so bad it did not fit the engine in the slightest, and what makes it atrocious is the fact that Holley sells this ECU for this engine specifically. This is not about the fact that you need to tune it, this is simply Holley being Holley - lazy. By the looks of it, Holley just stuck the same fat old fuel table in there that they supply for everything else. It would have been so easy for them to set A/F targets to the LT series of motors but they did not. I have tuned three Terminator X systems and they all had crap mapping from Holley. Had they specifically stated that it was only a map for first fire, okay I can accept that, but they sell this as self-learning EFI for people who can’t tune, and that’s why it is not acceptable.
As a carpenter by trade, that was a tough intro to watch, lol. Love you guys, happy Easter!!!
All that intro was "please people who don't know what I'm talking about click on my video"
Yeah, that was interesting. Maybe they should just stick to building bad ass cars and trucks. I can hang those shelves a whole quicker and easier, but there is no way I could produce anything close the vehicles they do regularly.
@@ryanlukens9280i would definetly want finnigans skillset more than the "hanging shelves" skillset
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 no doubt. His skills are way cooler than mine
I also love the smell of pew pew in the morning.
But does Finny's wife?...
You don’t live far from me. Be happy to come by and tapcon the boards to your wall for you!😎
On a ramset there is different grades of nails. You have to read what they are rated for. Also the powder has different ratings as well.
There are different grades of nails and guns. A Hilti powdered actuated gun with a quality nail will work every time.
There are also 27 caliber guns, and I far prefer using a rotohammer and good anchor like titan threaded bolts. The small blue tapcon screws that look similar to a wood screw are absolute junk. I have had them fail to grab many times, despite being very careful and using the tapcon bits. Red head wedge anchors or Titan screw anchors are far better, even plastic inserts and screws work better than any tapcons I have used.
Finnegan, you never disappoint. I've been building an insane 2nd gen Firebird. Been saving up for a tremec then you go and show me that amazing sequential trans. Guess I'll be saving for a while longer. Keep up the good work!
About a $500 dollar shelf in the current day and age. Newbern has really grown on me, I like that guy! Good addition to the channel.
I can’t even explain how much I love this truck. Literally everything about it is perfect, I wouldn’t even want to paint or wrap it, I really dig the look of the body work and mismatched colors personally, especially knowing what level of parts are in it. That exhaust note is GLORIOUS.
Side note: just ordered a Bennie t shirt off the site, can’t wait to get it!
"The same a/f ratio that makes the most power n/a...is the same ratio boosted". -David Freiberger. Engine Masters.
That was not what he said, and it is not the case.
He said that the same A/F that makes peak power without nitrous is the same A/F that makes peak power with nitrous, which is the case by the way.
Hope y’all have a great day. Happy Easter to all. Great video.
Years ago when I worked for a carpet cleaning and repair company I had to use a Ramset nailer nearly every day to nail tack strip down. 90% of my work was done in apartment complexes built in the 70’s. I don’t know what they did with concrete back then but sometimes I’d blow out concrete for multiple feet before I could get a 3 foot section of tack strip stuck in enough to hold stretched carpet in place.
My favorite part of this process was ruining multiple strips of tack strip to get one stuck with nails every inch of the thing just to stretch a full room of carpet onto it and then have the tack strip pop out of the floor. That’s purgatory at its finest.
I am a Union carpenter by trade... And I can tell you an easy way to install that wood to the wall. Go get yourself a hammer drill with a 5/16 drill bit. Go to home depot And get double headed 16 penny nails and some sort of wire doesn't matter. Cut the piece of wire the same length as the nail. Put the board where you want to hammer drill through the board and the concrete put the piece of wire in the hole that you have just drilled put the nail in there and hammer it in just like you would in wood. The 5/16th drill bit Is already the same size as the nail the piece of wire just acts . Like a wedge basically. You Will pull the nail through the wood before you pull it out of the wall tough to remove. The reason your ram set gun failed. Sometimes you have to kill the load on them. For whatever reason if you smack that safety up against the board a couple times before you shoot it it lessens the shot. So another words take that gun smack it 2 or 3 times like you're gonna shoot it kind of hard up against what sure gonna shoot and then shoot. We actually use gas charged guns now for that not powder they have propane in them and a Electric igniter when you pull the trigger. So basically your feeling a chamber full of gas then light off and explodes and drives it home. The precast you are shooting into is one of the hardest to shoot into that's why blew out. And you can't ever shoot close to a corner cuz it will blow big chunks out of it. If it would be block you would shoot into the grout lines
To be a gearhead on some level & to not be a gun guy is such a foreign concept to me. The elegance of the mechanisms for both when properly executed are things of beauty. Whether we are talking a AKM, Jeep, Rolls Royce or Holland & Holland double rifle the work especially the handcrafted ones & design are amazing either in their simplicity, reliability or beauty.
Newburn, I hope Mike buys you a lot of breakfast, lunch and dinner, you’re the only one I see working.
So ready to see the full rip on that truck. It sounds so good
You are the guy that got me into bodydropped trucks, and mini trucks years ago. I love seeing you with another bodied truck. Great work man.
The technical term for that tool is “powder activate ramset “ 😂 the nail probably bent because it hit a piece of rebar or you weren’t flush to the surface. Pro tip, they make different levels of powder charges for the blanks you load in there
Lol
And length of nail...
"Ramset" is a brand name. The tool is actually a "powder actuated nailer".
The truck is awsome , the looks the stance and that noise !!!!
Cool, Jeff & Mo's tuned my 4.6L ford in my "58 F100. Works perfect!
This is great perfect timing it's my birthday thankyou Finnigan
Hey guys I’m a disabled veteran that has followed you and you have inspired me to completely rebuild my 1965 Chevy c 20 and I love your c10 project
I don't know how far you guys have gotten with your shelving project , but after I had the same problem with my ram set I went and got a hammer drill , masonry bits , and tapcon screws . Way stronger and way better attachment .
Guess I should have watched the whole video before commenting . Lol
I used these everyday sometimes. What you can do is, if the nail doesn't go all the way through on the first try, is to put another bullet in without a nail. Put the end over the nail that didn't go all the way in, and shoot it again. It will set the nail in on the second shot!!
Awesome video guys. Nice to see more of the C10.
"I feel Like Brian O'Conner with my laptop in the passenger seat".... Was waiting to see the "Danger to manifold" message and sparks from the floor pan dropping out. Left disappointed. (Kidding! Awesome truck man)
Use tapcons screws to hold the wood on the wall!! I have always had problems with the skinny screw breaking off also!! If I remember correctly I used the screws that would work for a 3/16 masonry drill bit & I have way better luck with them!! I would also use a 3” long screw & atleast drill the hole 4” deep!! Works really good!! Also after running the masonry bit threw the concrete just run the bit in & out of the hole several times over & over to help clean the hole out!! Also you can use air to clean all concrete dust out of the hole so that the hole is nice & cleaned out so that nothing binds the screw up when trying to put the screw in!! I promise you that will definitely work good for ya as long as done properly!!!
I have a mild small block in my 72 Cheyenne, I love that truck!!! sounds so awesome, when you hit the gas, OMG, that's badass!!!
woooooooo i cant wait to see the numbers!! congrats mike you've been killing it man!
Get yourself a tube of liquid nails. It’s like welding the wood to the wall, so right up your alley!
Building a shop truck this year, this was a great video and very relatable.
Hello Mike and David the truck sounds awesome can't wait to see how it runs when you work out the tuneup problems. Come on using a nail gun is fun at least your had a trigger the one I used to fire the shell you had to hit the end of the gun with a hammer. Wishing everyone there well Take Care Guys

For a few minutes there I thought I was watching the red green show. “How to install heavy duty shelving with duct tape” JK! Great to see you guys in unfamiliar territory! Really enjoy your channel!
Lol. My wife finds me handy
Use blue tapcon screws to attach the horizontal pieces to the wall, but I would still use some legs and vertical pieces against the wall between the shelves as well, so you can load the shelves with more weight.
I had my car recently tuned at moes. Jeff is pretty knowledgeable. Helped my car alot. Was having issues with it running at idle. Using holley terminator system. Makes really decent power now.. just need to add 110 to it and have Jeff adj timing for that and make more power. Believe u would like my build. Been a driveway build for the last 3 yrs
That reminds me of Hollywood movie show downs typically in building sites ,the hero always prevailing thanks to the random nail gun lying around.
Keep I coming Fin, working my 72 GMC turbo as I watch!
Anchor bolts and angle iron, guaranteed never to move!
Just use nails in the wall's guys. Pre Drill your holes to the diameter of the nail's 3" spikes work good, Buy some hay wire, make a loop around the tip of the nail and wrap the wire down the nail. if done right when you drive the nail into the predrilled hole the wire will compress around the nail and fasten it securely to the wall. Just get it right the first time cause they are a pain to pull out once the wire is compressed lol
Just make a free standing work bench to fit alcove and then you'll have the option of moving it. Get wall cabinets from Home Depot for upper storage. Install ledger to help in wall cabinet installation and leave in place for strength.
Sweet, 20% Throttle 🤪 Looking forward to seeing you on a track. 🍻👍👍👍
I’m glad you didn’t give up on the shelves. It shows your versatility to handle a situation that you aren’t familiar with. The truck is scary fast.
U don’t count failing and walking away to do something else, ... giving up?
A couple of things with run ability stand out. Excessive crank time till it fires off. It should fire right away 5:32. When it stops pulling it shuts down entirely. Seems electrical. I suspect spark is missing on all cylinders when it happens. Something as simple as a bad engine block ground could cause this. I have been lucky in the past and maybe you sort out the extended crank problem and both problems go away. I had a car that ran fine until the exhaust was worked on, it turned out that the exhaust was the only ground for the engine block. When checking for spark it had no spark when testing it with the plug grounded at the engine but had spark when testing against the chassis. An inspection found a severed engine block ground..... easy fix, hard to pinpoint. Good luck and keep up the quality videos. Always fun to watch.
Direct injection can go much leaner, then port injection. Cause no knock/detonation with the direct injection. Loving that truck!
That nail gun is pretty fun to work with

Such a mad truck. Well done. 👍🏼
After adjusting the AFR, looked like a much more fun driving machine.
still needs work, but it's definitely more fun to drive now.
Chemical anchor is the absolute best method for what you were trying to achieve.
So much more watchable now with better sound. This show is as good or better than any on Motor Trend now.
HEY! Love the video the quality is getting way better. THE TRUCK IS AWESOME!!
One badass truck right there. You get that truck straightened out, and you'll have a hard time keeping it on the road, LOL!!!
Tires that far forward on the rollers had me wincing. But man does that truck sound evil!!!
That is a really nice C10 build. I am also building a 1968 Chevy C10, but it is a original shortbed, fleetside,396 bigblock truck with TH400. I had thought about putting a LS engine in it but I think I will keep it bigblock and hopefully afford a big inch bigblock with procharger or other boost mod and just save the original stock engine. Anyways you are building a really awesome truck and it will be cool to watch the build come together.
Best summer camp ever!
Nice job on the shelves. Happy Easter!!!! 🐣
Hey, you should always use only pressure treated wood against concrete and you can even get fancy and use the “sill seal” foam
2:50 “Ramset” 😉 It takes a bit longer, but hammer drill and some Tapcons are the best.
I love Mo's Speed Shop. One hell of a great place.
But apparently not DFI experts lol.
I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning...
You guys be safe in that bad ass machine
A small hammer drill bit, and some anchors are best for shelving.
You have to push really hard to get that nail gun to get it to fire the round. That is the built in safety so someone just can't pull on the trigger have fire. They have three different power ranges the shell are color coded as the strength. I worked a job and they wanted a single door on the garage we held a eye beam up on 2x4 jacks and my boss used to big of a charge and blew the washer that on the nail right thru the hem fir 2x4. You also use use square cut nails and hammer them in with B F H. Mike you looked like you were ready for a moon walk. Love your hannel you guys have so much fun. Shifting your truck is so cool without using the clutch I wish I could shifted my 67 GTO that fast, I use to try, I got pretty fast but that was a long time ago
With Newbern’s seat so low, it looks like you’re taking your kid for a Sunday drive.
I thought the same. Haha
The truck sounds so good!

Great content thanks for sharing
1st rule of tuning, don't try to get your transient and static fuelling correct at once! Do a SLOW accelerator tip in to move vertically up the load line at the engine speed fixed (this allows the dyno to lock onto and hold that speed, meaning you only move in ONE axis across the map) and do it slow enough to NOT trigger the transient fuelling (even better, zero all transient maps!). This allows you to both creep up on problem areas, and means you have some chance of understanding what is happening! Once your base map (with a warm engine) is within about 0.05 lambda, then you can start to look at the transient requirements, because you KNOW the steady state map is correct!
Dyno straps were putting in work that day

Love this truck the way it is 👍🏽
Finn, you are driving that box like a normal car. you realize you dont need to use the clutch to upshift, it's like a motorcycle, lift off the gas slightly and shift then back on the gas quickly. No clutch needed and it will be better for the gearbox, much less tear and wear on it. Love the truck, top 10 fav build on utube, #1 being Nascarlo :)
I love my Remington Power Hammer. You have to get the right loads for the studs you're firing and the hardness of the concrete. Otherwise you will either go way too deep, or have what happened to you. No penetration. The color coded loads have a chart to follow and then just play with it.
You need to use Tapcon anchors. Pre-drill with hammer drill, then use 2.5” long Tapcon that has a 5/16” hex head.
Waiting with total anticipation for the next one ......🤞👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You need to use the "hot" load ramset cartridge. They have colors and numbers on the boxes...the red box is the strong ones. Also, it may have been better to use the .27 cal. cartridge. I've used those to put metal studs in 3/8" concrete....and to keep it from going sideways you have to put a lot more umph behind the shot. Use both hands and press the gun against the wall very hard when you squeeze the trigger.
I think you'd be better off using a hammer drill and concrete screws. Also don't forget about a vapor barrier.
