- We are hitting the highway in Lincoln Hawk, our stretched 1986 Chevy Kodiak enclosed ramp truck. The plan is to fix some stuff on the truck and then make tracks for the west coast. I'm flying to California to film an upcoming episode of Roadkill while Newbern is driving to Arizona. We'll meet up in AZ and then road trip back home to Georgia with not one but TWO jet boat projects. All of the videos from this trip are brought to you by the cool peeps at WIRECARE.
The trick fireproof Dragon welding blanket we used in this video can be found here:

Lol "Ive crawled under it from front to back, everything looks great" and is then surprised to find the muffler disconnected hahaha
Definitely didn't look under it lol
It's possible, those pieces of flex pipe are kind of crappy and when they get a little rusty will break if you look at them wrong. He may have looked under it and it broke after.
I have a 80's Ford C750 with the 3208 and it has exactly the same thing. It sounds badass driving around the property but I wouldn't want to do a road trip like that LOL
Got em
I am surprised this only got 4 comments!
That truck was owned by Ca Car Cover, they had a guy named "Davey Allison" working for them as their truck driver. He would of taken that truck to the races, SEMA etc. Nascar Davey died in 1993.
Cool!
In the truck?
@@spiralinglight No, He (NASCAR Davey) died in a helicopter crash
The Davey Allison badge gets even more crazy considering he died in 1993.
93 and 94 were really tough for Nascar since we lost Allison/Kulwicki in 93 and Bonnet in 94
I googled Davey Allison so im thinking the same thing lol
Someone probably checked in under his name not much verification for conference badges back then id think
Wasnt 93 the year rusty and dale did the polish victory lap at atlanta?
Not really. If you go back to the insta post. It was someone else and they worked at the company, drove the truck around the country.
The number one best thing you can do for a diesel - any diesel - is a good transfer pump. Look into getting a FASS unit. A little spendy, but totally worth it. It'll eliminate the vast majority of start-ability / bad running problems. You don't know me from anyone, so if you want to check with someone you know, check with Steve Darnell. I think he's put them on all of his rigs.
FASS did an excellent job at marketing and selling people a product they don't need. There is nothing wrong with the factory fuel system in this truck, or any of the trucks they make systems for.
You don't need a $600 in line pump, there are plenty of less expensive OE style solutions.
With a highly modified engine that's a different story but that's not where most of those pumps are installed.
"Never let the discontent of someone else that you love, ruin YOUR joy. That's the key to a happy life."
Now there are some words to remember. And repeat to your buddies down at the bar as you discuss your former significant others.
Thats the next t shirt quote
Truer words have not been spoken...lol
Notice he didn't say wife
"Don't let someone dim your light, simply because it's shining in their eyes"...
You can call the truck what you like but it’s “Clifford” in my book, I used to own a big red bong of the same name... 🔴😎✌️
Clifford =]
I don't think I've ever seen a red bong lol. Lots of clear, green, and blue

Bostrom air ride seats are what you need you can get both a right and a left high back or medium back seats. Any big rig dealer has them or can order them.
I used to be a technician at Uhaul and when you mentioned tackling the wiring it sent shivers down my spine lmao some of my worst days there. Sometimes it’s easier to rip everything out, start from scratch and install new everything.
Especially with that many wire nuts !!

That’s for sure!! 🤣😂
Just a hint. She will hate whatever you bring home on your anniversary that isn’t for her.
You're saying the eldritch monstrosity of a ramp truck *isn't* for her!?
Pretty sure he brought home square force one on valentines too.

You can show me all the McLarens and Ferraris and other supercars but never have I felt more envy over an automobile than this Chevy Kodiak in such a great condition.
1:30 Finnegan: Look, the engine is made out of engine. 🤣
We have dual cat 3208 turbo 275hp’s in our boat. They are somewhat understressed in that application, but they’ve never given us ANY trouble in the last 15 years. They never take more than 2 turns to spin over. Just keep up oil changes, and fuel filters and they just run.
By the way: Congratulations, your channel is now officially 5 years old, as the 1st video was uploaded on 18th of April 2016 :) How about a short garage tour for a comparison what has changed in all that time?
wow! i didnt realize that and youre right. i'll do a tour soon. thanks.

@@chrisdelagarza8048 Uh, they just uploaded a roadkill episode with Finnegan and Freiburger on the 5th......

You are the best! Just how far you have come from the young days on roadkill. It's just so cool to watch you now, all the blasphemi vids, ramptrucks, the c10 is finally a ripper, now the caddy! Amazing. Keep on keeping on brother.
Nice sound edit with the radio scene! Love seeing an actual truck on the show!
As a truck driver and part time self thought truck mech, I can tell you that truck will last longer then almost anything they made since 2007 and newer. It has no def and no regen or egr of any kind on that motor.
It has full 12k front axel and looks like 23k rear axle with probably a locker.
Service that engine, rear end, front axle kingpins, and transmission with fresh oil and filters and it will last you for many many years to come.
That is a seriously cool find.
Rare and built like a brick sht house to lay thru a war 😆
You have a VERY understanding and forgiving wife. DON'T lose her!
Guys, your wife is not supposed to be able to tell you how to live your life and dominate you. Vehicles are Finnegan's business and his life so when his wife doesn't control what vehicles he purchases that's not called being "very understanding and forgiving" that's called being supportive and non-manipulative. Jesus I feel bad for all you suckers who think it's normal for your wife to run YOUR business and hobbies. My wife is priority number 4 in my life, after 1) ME and 2) MY CAREER because the relationship breaks down if those two things aren't taken care of first.
@@Joseph-C So, why are you even married? You do know there is a product called Fleshlight. One of those and your headaches melt away. Sheesh, you sound like the kind of man that just wants a semen repository. I love my business and my cars too, but not at the expense of long-term relationships.
You know speaking on Davey Allison stuff, I have an entire real front clip off his 92 Martinsville car, yes the actual car that ran the race, I use it as a tv stand. Best tv stand ever haha
The Halon extinguishers are awesome, you can spray them directly on aluminum and it wont run it, regular extinguishers will pit aluminum badly. Only ones I will keep in my cars.
Lol, 'Positive Crankcase Ventilation'. Always a 'Positive' experience. You guys are great. Yes, the Here I Am big Red Blob needs some style'n......
That CB looking wire was crossing the weatherstrip and hurrying along Lincoln's destruction. Glad you fixed that. 👌
Dude when you're digging through the truck finding remnants of its history. It's so nostalgic
Holes in the block, a little Tremco caulking, good to go...you guys are a riot...had to sub...America needs you guys now
As an old truck driver, I can tell you that Cat is probably the best of all road motors. Smooth, quiet, power band everywhere on the RPM scale. You're a lucky dude - you can't get 'em for the road anymore because Cat haven't bothered trying to meet current emissions standards. Nice rig.
Yea but cat didn’t quit making them for no reason.
They had hella
Problems!
@@fastinradfordable they still make a ton of them, only for off road use. Mining equipment, big generators, etc. A lot of them go into the giant dump trucks and excavators and such. Cat's still going gangbusters as a business. They just couldn't make the engines meet road emissions standards, so they quit trying. That's where they were having trouble. I ran a lot of them during my truck driving career and absolutely loved them. My favorite engine.
the two happiest days of a boat owner...
the day u buy it and the day u blow three pistons through the side of the hull
The way this video ends is how Finnegan says hi to his wife after a long road trip
the ol "I love you" and then "oh, by the way..............."
Two boats with big red.... oh, she's gonna be really thrilled when you get home....
Could immediately tell that Finnegan was a few beers deep as soon as Newbern was pulling into the lot. Fuck yeah. LoL
At least we can still watch this after MotorTrend stops allowing access to their shows to Australia in coming months.. Yay I guess?
Just get a vpn?
@@123vaw123 I'm actually really opposed to doing that. I'm supposed to do extra work to give MT my money? Naah they can keep their shows, Hagerty is on a massive come up and they are still on youtube.
I mean, I can understand how people are pissed about this, but making these posts on the hosts pages and channels doesn't really make sense to me. Yeah, they can say something in meetings, but why doesn't anyone complain to MotorTrend? Start a Facebook Group, something other than making angry comments on the hosts pages and channels. If 15 people say hey, why can't our non US fans view the show doesn't make as large of an impact as say ALL of the non US viewers making that same comment. Load down their phone lines, shut down their emails, make their IT specialist's lives hell.
@@TwoAMBlacktop there are no meetings. i find out about stuff like this when you guys do. its unfortunate but i have zero input into the situation.
@@FinnegansGarage It’s very unfortunate. But at the same time, non US viewing has been a problem for quite a while. Coca Cola brought Surge back because of a Facebook page. People at the decision making level at MotorTrend need to see the money they are losing by not allowing viewing outside the US. A Facebook page can organize a schedule for email and phone campaigns that can make a good impact.
This is going to be SICK
God bless Mrs. Finnegan. She clearly deals and absorbs a lot of your stuff.
Wiley showing up like it's a gun show :)
Love how you still didn’t look in the Driver side compartments lol 😂
Big rigs can have “air ride cabs” that would be the best solution
Attempting to add air ride to that cab would drive Finn to kiss the business side of a 12 gauge..
Air seats are all he can do practically. Air suspension would be great except for the complexity of it
Ya itd be near impossible without completely rebuilding the truck to do a proper air ride cab.
Oh for shure! Most modern tractors also use them
@@scottakasprite I've pulled a few square body cans in my day never on a truck this big, but I think mack ch cab airbags would fit fairly easily in the front just flip the cab mount brackets on the frame. Put the pivot underneath the rear of the cab and eliminate the factory cabmounts or just leave them intentionally really loose even. Install a leveling valve and plumb it into the air supply for the brakes. Probably easier said than done, and still air seats would make a bigger better impact on ride quality.
@@milesgerschefske6231 You do realize that you're referring to Finnegan and know how dangerous it is if they screw something up...
Wow this thing is HUGE
That transmission fill shot reminded me that I did the same on my medium truck and it wasn't on a perfectly level surface. I was climbing the hill on I-8 out of San Diego to start the cross country trip, engine screaming up the hill at 30 mph and the transmission started to puke fluid onto the exhaust. Thought something was seriously wrong and had a mini heart attack in the process. Realized I overfilled the trans. Stopped smoking after about 10-15 miles of that. Made it the rest of the way no problem except needed to change the fuel filter a couple times (newer fuels knocked all the varnish from the old fuel into the filter). The old IDI was dog slow, but she didn't let us down.
You guys always have so much fun doing what you love. Wished I could do the same cause I love all automobile stuff.
What you really need to find is an old school CABOVER RAMPTRUCK now that would be the absolute RAMPTRUCK OF EVERY MANS DREAMS

Its not a semi truck chassis. Its a Medium Duty truck. Its a 2.5 ton. My big trucks a GMC TopKick which is the same truck. Your 3208T should be 250hp rated. Should be a Eaton rear end. The model depends on the GVWR of the truck and varies widely based on how the truck was originally speced. Some haters will say the 3208 is a junk motor because its parentbore and but there good engines albeit thirsty.
There are some semi's that are class seven trucks like this one but typically a semi is a class eight. As far as class seven trucks go this one is quite large
@@chris6200 The old class 7s are pretty much all this large. GM used to make class 7 and 8 trucks that were very simular to the Kodiak/TopKick and those were the Bruin/Brigadier. Truck class is based on GVRW and although this is large truck physically its GVRW is too low to be classified as a Class 8. These trucks could even be spec as a tandem axle which would raise the gvrw but not enough to classify as a class 8. And people treating these trucks like they are semi trucks is how people blow them up.
When Finnegan was reading the service records in the glove box he said that in 2003 a guy named Aaron Reeves worked on it... That truck has quite a history with guys named Aaron Reeves.
I wonder if it is the same Aaron Reeves from Mabank, Texas?
@@TravisCockerell I thought that at first but I think he is a little too young to have worked on the truck in 2003. I could be wrong though.

Two words, Mike: KENWORTH EXHAUST!!! A sweet ride like your cherry-bomb here deserves to be "Stylin' & Profilin,'" after all. Oh yeah - the Cat 3508 cranks out 500-750 horses, depending on the application......

Speaking of WIRECARE...that truck could use some SERIOUS LED lighting upgrades on it. Get some running lights all the way down the sides, downlighting on the bottom of the front overhang to light up the side of the truck WHEN you break down on the side of the road (white downlights under it wouldn't hurt), LEDs in the under storage, etc, etc.
Think OBNOXIOUS amounts of light. Useful WHEN you break down (over and over and over and over...)

Dude, EVERYWHERE sells weld trough primer! It's called "cold galvanizing compound" rustoleum I think, tall grey can, works awesome.
Good tip
We use 3m at the shop and it's not worth a damn. I'll have to try the rustoleum.
They call it "weld-through" but in my (limited) experience it's more of "make the weld porous and also make me feel ill"
@@Mightymatt54 that's the same thing I've experienced. The body shop I work at has tried 3 different types all with the same results.

I have never seen so much of the insides of an LS lying outside it whilst it's still assembled.
That's impressive, nice project boat, can never have enough of them.
You can still find kits to mount the cab on air, comfy ride for everyone. That is going to be the ticket. 3208 can make tons of power if you find it starting to lack.

Only thing it needs is ham radio system in it with a Texas Star 667 with a fan kit installed in it, I would use a Stryker, 955 or a RCI 2970N4 to run a straight 6-8 pill amplifier. With a Mr.Coily antennas on the mirrors. Then that thing would talk coast to coast when conditions were in. I would keep that master switch for the battery connection so if in a wreck should happen on the battery side you can have a quick disconnect so it will not burn to the ground. Still need to find the leak and seal it up boys. Adjusting brakes is one of the first things to teach a driver so he doesn't die on a big hill with a heavy load and how to come off the hill without burning the truck down as well with a brake fire or seal meting out of the axel. I would say if no jake brakes on the Cat get some and the brakes will last 100% longer as well and less adjusting them as well. I hop you checked the SWRs on that radio and antenna set up after removing the coax and antenna off the other mirror.
and the fire extinguisher matches the truck!
