Not 100% certain, but the Tiger commander in the beginning could possibly be Albert Kerscher, Commander of 2. Batterie, schwere Panzer-Abteilung 502, credited with over 100 kills at the wars end. Kerscher was Otto Carius's "wingman" in many engagements, while Carius was with the 502. After the war, Kerscher served with the Bundeswehr from 1956 to 1969. He died in June 2011.

@@northernskys someone else suggested it might be Franz Begemann and I think that is right, if so these are some of the last images of him as he went missing in the end of June 1944 in Belarus near the Polish border.

Because if the current area of Poland then probably only the area around Lublin. Unless the area of Poland before the war, that is, it may be the current southwestern Ukraine.

They collected my grandfather in Berlin after he got to his aunt. Worked on flak(maybe in the east, via train, I don't remember). In Berlin they fought with a broken rifle. Luckily he got hit with shrapnel because that meant the Russians didn't take him.

In Germany they released over 100,000 chews from military service when they petitioned that they should not have to fight when they were gonna be kicked out of the country anyway. And in America you could get out of service if you were politically connected. Either way, whether you fight or not, you still have to be able to live with your decision.
The Germans had mistakenly pulled all their armor back expecting a run through Galacia by the Russians. They were in position and eagerly awaiting the Russian move. The Russians however attacked army group Centre and due to a lack of tanks combined with overwhelming firepower and ground attack aircraft on the part of the soviets, army group Centre was crushed with a loss of over 400k men. The german tanks intervened too late to prevent the worst of it and after the loss of 400k men, the germans no longer had sufficient manpower to stop the russians. It was all over but the dying. The Germans really should have considered a negotiated surrender at this point.
Hitler would have never accepted. After one survived assasination attept Hitler claimed to be chosen by God. The Germans were brainwashed since young age in the HJ (Hitlet Jugend = Hitler Youth) since 8 years old you would have to join and with 16 you were already a soldier in the Führers army. I think negotiations were no option. As we see later they defended Berlin to the last men and breath, even children. And the Führer himself? We know how that ended…
These guys in the video are shown fighting in Latvia in August 1944. As for the actions in Poland, the Soviets took a hard beating in a large tank battle near Warsaw on August 1-5.
