One of My Most Challenging Builds!...and I Destroyed a Tool

  • I have always wanted to make a candy dispenser. I couldn’t find a design for a wooden machine that I liked so I designed my own! Using Fusion 360, I was able to come up with a modern looking candy dispenser that I think looks as cool as it is functional.
    My dispenser is about 13.5”T x 6”W x 6”D. It holds A LOT of candy. I used rabbet joints for the carcass. Originally, I planned to add aluminum dowels to the sides to strengthen the joints, but there are several wood pieces glued to the insides faces of the container, making the whole machine rock solid.
    For the finish I went with Tried and True. It’s a food safe finish so there’s no issues with candy touching it.

    My aunt and uncle owned a country store in the 1950-80s. They had a bubble gum type machine that dispensed salted peanuts (it was either a penny or nickel machine). She had my dad convert it to a bubble gum machine, my parents passed away in early 2000s, so I have it as a family treasure. Watching you build this reminded me of watching my dad fix that old machine. Thank you. :)

    Just a remark about the drill press accident, your lucky that was all that happened. You never spin a bit that large that fast , especially without clamps holding the workpiece. It will not be very long before something worse happens.

      @ryanhessler8966 Před rokem +1

      I was thinking the same thing about the lack of a clamp. Drill presses are one of those tools that seem tame but can quickly bite

    This is the most original build I’ve seen in a very long time. Everyone is building out shops like everyone else, but you are original and fun to watch. Thank you!

      Hi, man. I don't know how you find the time to do what you do. FYI: I don't have a CNC, etc. so I'd be trying to make this with 'caveman tool' and old fashioned brute force (like a man of 75 years has any brute force left) Thanks for the video. Your creativity is always a blast to watch.

    I almost choked on my lunch from laughing at the part where you were just staring at the viewer as your CNC cut out the circle and you pointed to your video on 7 ways to cut out a circle.
    Just cutting the CNC haters or trolls saying it's not real woodworking off at the knees before they can even start. 😂 🤣

    Great project! Is there a washer or something similar between the handle and the base to keep the handle from rubbing the finish off of the base over time?

    • @NewtonMakes
      @NewtonMakes  Před 2 lety

      There is not, but it's not a film finish and tried and true soaks into the wood. I wouldn't expect any issues.

    Do you have a folder filled with clips called "milling walnut" for when you are editing, or do you film fresh every time?
    Nice project, and a good combo of CNC and traditional woodworking.

    thought of trying to make a candy machine where you have to put a coin in to get candy? I'm thinking on it, then drawing, then thinking more. If grand children will want candy they'll have to pay for it. Teach them value of money.
