  • In this video, I show you all the brand new 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Premium in Solar Octane color. This truck is pretty much exactly what I plan to bring to the channel soon (I hope if all goes as planned) minus the i-force max engine.
    Enjoy!

    For me, which trim I’ll go with depends on two things:
    1) Price and
    2) MPGS between iForce max and the standard iForce.
    If the pricing of a basic Trailhunter is way higher than the TRD OR, I’ll go with a TRD OR.
    Then, if the iForce Max has much better MPGs than the standard iForce, I’ll go with the Max on the TRD OR. If the numbers are close, I’d get the standard iForce as I don’t really care for the extra power.

    Yeah the high end OR seems like the way to go. We’ll have to see which setup gets the best mpg. I love the red leather seats in the Pro, but wonder how that air suspension seat will hold up over time. Like if it starts leaking, could be a nightmare problem 5-10yrs down the road? Especially from being out in the hot & cold for years.

    she's a slick unit! The sway bar disconnect (Dodge has being doing that for almost 20 years now in the Power Wagon) will only give you better tire contact, however the non-locking diff will still act traditionally and the available torque will only go to the wheel with the lest amount of resistance, hence why we use a locker. From a standpoint of engineering superiority, the locker will perform a lot better off road vs just disconnecting the sway bar! Although saying that, you can do some driving techniques (like brake torque application) to send more torque to the front wheels to break traction on the wheel that has more resistance. For the price point and overall platform on the truck, its disappointing that it does not have an available front locker! Still a fine mid size truck though! me likes!

    I saw the non hybrid in Solar Octane at the Overland Expo in Colorado. Chin spoiler was removed, looks much better. Wish Toyota would have a full time 4WD on more models. That tailpipe needs to be rerouted. Toyota made the Pro and Trailhunter too specialized. Should have the seats / air intake optional. Not a fan of the wheels. You'll love the Solar Octane. I had a 4R Pro and it's a stunning color. Long story but now I'm waiting on a '24Terra 4R. Waiting for your video on the 4R configurator and hopefully a real Terra picture at the port. Great video as always.

    I currently have a 2020 TRD Offroad. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new one. That’s a beautiful truck. I’m ok without the front locker, the MTS simulates a locker fairly well anyways. Don’t get me wrong. It would be nice. But my friend with a Rubicon Jeep has used it maybe 2 or 3 times in ten years.
    If you look at Land Rover Offroad tech, some of their defenders spec’d without lockers act almost exactly as if they have them, simply with the programming. Toyota’s Offroad tech keeps getting better.
    Try a different colour than the Solar Octane IMHO.

  • @jacobmarcisz7090
    @jacobmarcisz7090 Před 8 měsíci +2

    Looks quite similar to the 3rd gen.
    On the underside, it looks like the exhaust no longer crosses over from driver side to the pax side rear and is now on the driver side. It (exhaust crossover) also no longer hangs down below the frame and the transfer case. So it’s better protected than 2nd/3rd gens.
    It’s a fully boxed frame vs. ladder frame on previous gens. This might affect articulation numbers off-road where a ladder frame might twist a bit.
    Nose is still way too big. Looks like Barbara Streisand on the profile. Why not shorten the nose slightly and drop the slope on the hood? This will improve approach angle (better off road) and enhance visibility over the hood. This is critical especially when climbing steep slopes. 1st Gen Tacoma was perfect here.
    Aesthetically, it’s a decent looking truck, just not as “revolutionary” as I had hoped.
    Nice channel. Your reviews are excellent, compact, and efficient.

    • @TRDJon
      @TRDJon  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you so much and I appreciate your input on the truck and your thoughts.
      The muffler is on the driver side for this model now and the gas tank is now on the passenger side. That will help with some lean too which is nice.
      The only reason I can think of for the longer nose is for crash test ratings. Would be the only thing that makes sense.

    • @jacobmarcisz7090
      @jacobmarcisz7090 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@TRDJon That’s good info on the gas tank being relocated as well. Thanks for that!
      Crash test theory is very reasonable. Perhaps enhances the crumple zone a bit. I remember when the 3rd gen first came out, the lead engineer (Swears?) mentioned that the front bumper was designed in such a fashion to comply with upcoming, but not yet instituted federal requirements regarding collisions with pedestrians. Supposedly it was designed to make a collision more survivable for a pedestrian, up to a certain speed of course. I’m not sure if the anticipated federal requirement for such a design was ever put in writing, though.
      4th gen, overall, is an improvement in my opinion. Agreed, TRD OR and Sport will look better without the front air dam and a slightly more aggressive tire.

    I'm watching the video as I type and I'm really liking it. I'm currently miffed right now as I hear tomorrow, 10/30/23, I'm going to lose more app functionality from my '17 TacOffRoad as Toyota discontinues more app support leftover from the obsolete Entune info-nav system:( Regardless, if I were to get the forthcoming 4thGen Taco, I'd keep the '17 for awhile just in case there are some unforeseen bugs/recalls/whatever. Otherwise, I'm on a list for the forthcoming GX550 as I don't have an offroadable SUV. (Yes, I like the Solar Octane color).

    I like it…I traded my 19 Tacoma Off Road and got a 23 Pro…I put 250k miles on my 19 (many in 4WD). I just don’t buy the first couple of years of a new model. Figured I’d keep this 23 a few years, put a couple hundred thousand miles on it and buy a 4th Generation Tacoma.

    Has there been any info on why the fuel door for the non hybrid has the finger pull on the fuel door? It appears that the hybrid is accessed remotely to the left of the steering wheel. Seems like both models should have remote operation

    I like how Toyota FINALLY got rid of chrome on the TRD OR models. I really hope the Tacoma lean was addressed. I really wish Toyota would integrate a step in the rear bumper on both trucks instead of an articulating step.

    Hi Jon, I can see/feel your excitement for this 4th gen. Taco. But I do have some questions for you.
    COLORS:
    You mention and try to show some "sparkle" in this Solar Octane...
    - I guess it's a given that Bronze Oxide will look goldish tan with sparkles too.
    - But what about Underground? I hear or seem to be lead to believe it'll be flat (non-sparkle) blue/gray?
    - What about Black? Will it have sparkle or be flat?
    - I understand your plan and show here is Solar Octane, but if it's next to Red..is the red deeper or like fire engine or how can you describe the Toyota Red?
    FEATURES:
    - Next time you're in 4th gen Taco, can we see you try to wirelessly connect to Android Auto or Apple Car Play?
    - How about the pad that supposedly charges your phone without plugging it in?
    - You seem to like the JBL sound system, what's your take on the Flex speaker (I didn't see it here behind the big center screen)?
    FINAL QUESTIONS:
    I'm leaning towards the TRD Sport trim level (with the hybrid engine), but trying to narrow down color...
    - I may have to add steps for other family members to get in and out. Your thoughts on the rubbery ones vs. retractable ones (seen on Limited) vs. whatever else?
    - How do you recommend protecting the bed? A liner, a mat?
    - Tonneau covers?
    Sorry if I've said too much, thanks for your contagious excitement for '24 Taco. Looking forward to your continued coverage.

    Really interested in the new Tacoma without a sunroof. Hope you can get a premium without it. Also, I like the wheels. The silver breaks up the black. Never was a fan of all black wheels.
