Oh, hey. Perhaps someone forgot to move that Jira ticket
Actually it is a current problem but not on desktops, the problem is on some laptops, where if you hold down 3 keys and try to use the trackpad at the same time, it only works for a couple of seconds.
I can see the separate USB controller coming in handy for a use case like VR gaming. I've had it where I saturated my USB bandwidth and was having issues with some devices. This would fix that, not what they advertise.
it's also useful if you use things like a Kinect for full-body tracking since they like to saturate ports.
Indeed, I use a Rift CV1 and not only does the VR headset take quite a bit of bandwidth but so do the IR cameras for tracking. It's caused my wireless headphones to cut out every now and then due to the limited bandwidth when using my VR headset. Having something like this on my motherboard would be a game changer.
Basically, they had a way to market this in a way that actually made logical sense. But they didn't.
@@jex0 That's actually exactly what one of my problems was lol!
My 8 year old board has an additional controller for half it's USB3 ports, so it's not even a new thing.
This is hands-down the best Anthony video to date. Not saying he has had bad videos in the past, this one just stood out as being exceptionally professional. Whoever edited this one deserves a gold star. There were many camera angles and you frequently switched between them and also had a lot more custom animations/graphics than are typically added to Anthony videos. It looked way more professional than the usual Anthony videos which seem a bit more rushed in terms of editing compared to Linus videos. Seems like this one had top priority for the editors this week.
It's actually really important for me as a vr gamer with a bunch of high bandwidth usb devices

@@wymcoupe9335 well actually the USB 3.0 hub I have has trouble running my mouse and keyboard combo but I assume that has to do with the quality of the cheap hub more than anything lol
@@musek5048 Never ran into a problem with mine. The keyboard is high quality so I would assume the unpowered hub in it would be as well. The USB cable running out of it is a thick heavy boy and the mouse is the only thing I ever plug into it. IIRC I tried plugging a flash drive into it once and when I tried transferring a large file it was all aboard the struggle bus so I'm pretty sure that was the one and only time I tried that.
That board did indeed come with an advanced low latency input device port..... so advanced that its interrupt driven and requires no polling! That port is of course PS/2.
yes THIS, i always loved the PS/2 port for its lower i/o number and interrupt ability - hate to see it die out
@@hirudasanguinen4073 I'm curious why is it being abandoned now, does USB have any particular advantages over it?
But PS/2 actually has a much lower frequency than even USB 2.0, watch Ben Eater's videos on USB. basically the latency is the same even though USB is polling

RATIOOOOOO
@@MC3DGoldSeto what?
Anthony, yes I can see this being useful for pro low latency audio interfaces. When they are connected to shared ports, under heavy load you can get audio glitches and it can be quite complicated to diagnose why audio glitches happen on USB
I think this is still a useful feature on a motherboard, just this should have been marketed in a different way, as having separate controllers for each USB port does help when gaming in VR, which also happened to be an issue with Linus's own VR gaming setup when he wanted to do full-body tracking in VR. Many motherboard USB controllers tend to not be able to handle the bandwidth of VR devices that well, so oftentimes you end up buying dedicated USB cards to take the brunt of the bandwidth instead.
If legislation actually mandated marketing not be misleading or fictitious, then 99% of the products on the market would look like the shit they really are.
Now you might understand why so many people around the world find American trends so hilarious (and sad), as many countries do have laws against blatantly deceptive marketing practices.
It would make zero difference and would never be enforced except for very severe misrepresentations. They can get into the weeds as far as they like with "technically true" so the real solution is videos and media like this and the population in general to be more informed buyers.
@@innocentbystander3317 well thats the idea of american style business nowadays. its no longer about getting you the highest quality product that can be made, its about seeing how much profit you can make even if you have to bend the rules. multi level marketing is a perfect example of american greed gone rampant.

MSI also has similar ideas of gaming peripheral ports as well on their boards.
I only plug my mouse and keyboard into them because they are easier to see in the dark when I am climbing behind my PC as they are a different color from the "non-gaming USB ports".
Other than that I really have never seen or felt a difference between those ports or the other Gen 3.2 ports.
The only real difference I've noticed is if I plug an external SSD into one of the "gaming" ports and playing a game at the same time as transferring data.
It mainly only prevents performance dips in very very specific circumstances.
Once in awhile before I figured it out, while I was transferring large files from my PC to my external drives, my mouse would randomly dart across the screen or stop responding for a second or two. Not really enough to make a difference, but it was very slightly noticeable.
Using two external drives on each one of the "gaming" USB ports, merely helped prevent pausing of transfers. Sometimes it would randomly happen within Windows when I was copying backups of the same file onto two different drives. It wasn't a huge difference but it was a bit less frustrating when I was able to transfer multiple files at once without massive dips in transfer speed.
YMMV as sometimes the slowdowns were merely just old chipset drivers that needed to be updated.
Since the polling interval is controlled by the motherboard, and depending on controller implementation, you could in theory get a better experience if your USB ports were saturated.
In practice you would have to have a very in-efficient controller and the equivlant of downloading an entire HDD while playing your game to notice any issues. (Your more likely to notice lag from your HDD.)

the only time I've actually paid attention to USB controllers is for VR gaming, and plugging in headsets into certain USB ports giving better/worse results - but in that case there are already PCI-E cards that add a separate controller and ports, so it's not some huge impossible thing you *need* on the mobo itself

I know that using USB controller limits are a huge factor of success when connecting to USB telescope auto mounts, combined with the DLSR main imaging equipment and targeting camera for scope guidance and auto tracking. All stuff that comes up on day 1 for astrophotographers. My rig needed an additional USB PCIe card not for the ports but the issue was that at times the one USB controller on the board would become so utilized my apps access to the scope would jitter and I would lose the ability to command the scope and take images effectively. Adding a second USB controller (w/ the PCIe add on card) and moving the imaging over to its own solved the problem.
I would consider a board like this for using with an oculus quest 2 since I have noticed slight issues with usb port data crowding when trying to run simulated full body tracking via usb cameras while connecting a quest 2 with the oculus link cable

I've seen mouse jitter and keyboard stuck inputs when using usb c docks + local virtual machines. It's a significant problem. Thunderbolt helps too but there's some bug in Windows when using these usb screen docs and it's very annoying when it happens.
