    Please note that the manufacturer kit is only 6 sticks most shower pans require at least 8 sticks for both Pre Pitch and Quick Pitch. Also we no longer use plumber putty to seal the drain flange and waterproofing now plumber silicone is used.
    Once shower pan is in place you most do a flood test fill pan with 2" of water, mark water level, wait 24 hours, if water level stayed the same you are ready to tile.

    Thank you for asking, Dharma. You do want to use a cement and sand mix, this does not make the cement weak, but easier to work with. You can purchase already mixed cement and sand and you want to use a 3:1 or 4:1 sand:cement, we recommend quik-crete or mapei.

    Thank you for asking about the wire mesh. We do suggest on our website to use our reinforcement kit (Which includes synthetic lath (rather than metal) and 16 sq ft of tar paper) when building a shower on a wood sub floor.

    Hello Leslie and Larry - These sticks are from Mark E Industries. They are an amazing product that we suggest be used in every tile shower in North America. Thank you for your comment.

    I do like the pre pitch sticks , would make it easier to assure required pitch especially for diy folks however , I would never fasten the sticks penetrating any pan liner to the plywood subfloor.

    • @DixSystems
      @DixSystems  Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you Steve for your input in this video the Pre Pitch is fastened to the sub floor not the liner. The Liner is in between the Pre Pitch and Quick Pitch. Yes, the Pre Pitch can be stuck down with epoxy or sticky tabs, but on our sub floor we have put down tar paper with plastic lathe, then Pre Pitch, then liner, then Quick Pitch, the liner is never punctured or put holes in for any reason. This video is only step one there are more videos for the installation or the entire installation on this video link czcams.com/video/vNo3rcsnBKw/video.html

    Under the Pre-Pitch, you do not require a liner here, but "sandwiched" between the pre-pitch and quick-pitch (shown in next step) you will want a liner as yes, the water will penetrate through the cement.

    Im doing a curb less with a 5/16th Ditra outside of the pre sloped pan. Im going to use this away from the pan so water runs downhill to the pan itself. Anybody try this Thoughts Please?

    what do you do if the drain is not in center ? or when the shower is not square ?
    If you do not have a square area like shower size 3'x5' the stick will not be at the same height next to the walsl and this will cause an issue when tile is installed.
    Thanks

      @JustinLodes Před 8 lety

      It doesn't matter where the drain is as long as you make the pitch it all directions fall into it. This system with the sticks is for armatures who can't gage how to do that or have little skill in this area.

    • @DixSystems
      @DixSystems  Před 8 lety

      This product and video are made for DIY users that are not comfortable with building a mortar bed on their own.
      The sticks are to be leveled out at the ends (up against the wall) by packing mortar under them. Once all perimeter is level then you can fill in each section of the "pie". The same process happens inside the liner with the Quick Pitch kit.

    Tell me which building code would allow this system to be used in the United States , is it IAPMO certified, is it allowed under the international plumbing code or uniform plumbing code how about any of the state codes. No type of pan liner , not even the old hot mop system . Mmmmm.

    • @willhere8892
      @willhere8892 Před 6 lety

      That's a pre-slope which is required by code. You need a pre-slope prior to installing the pan liner/membrane and then you do a final slope.

    Do you recommend the weep hole protector over using gravel?

    • @DixSystems

      Yes we do recommend the weep hole protector over gravel. The weep hole protector reduces chances of any damage to your liner that gravel could potentially cause.

    my subfloor is sloped towards my drain in all directions. any tips when installing the sticks to help level them out.

    • @DixSystems
      @DixSystems  Před 7 lety +1

      You should start with a level floor, the contractors we work with will use a self leveling concrete before using the Pre Pitch system.

    • @JT-dn6gs
      @JT-dn6gs Před 7 lety

      if i shim the sticks up with thinset towards the drain will that be acceptable.

    • @DixSystems
      @DixSystems  Před 7 lety

      That is not how we would want to install the product but you could make it work. Make sure the drain is level to the floor also or you will get pooling there and can be very noticeable in finished product

    • @JT-dn6gs
      @JT-dn6gs Před 7 lety

      DixSystems ok thank you, right now my my drain is 1/4" above the floor and level. If i do another layer of SLC i will have my drain flush with the floor before and I am concerned the mud will be too thin by the drain.

    • @DixSystems
      @DixSystems  Před 7 lety +1

      All the systems we work with have the drain flange flush with the sub floor with the pre pitch the minimal mortar base mortar is thin at drain but then the quick pitch which the final mortar base for tiling and is 1 inch deep at drain
