  • I this video I will demonstrate how to pre-slope shower pan on slab. Pre slope pan provides gradual slope for rubber pan liner. If you don't want to have a large wet spot around your shower drain you better build a pre-slope pan under your shower pan liner.

    You're doing amazing Tile work. Waterproofing is definitely your expertise.

    Very helpful. I hadn't thought of painting on waterproofing before the PVC liner, but it makes sense. I have plenty of Redgard so might as well. A couple questions:
    Do you need to use adhesive between that preslope and the PVC liner? And do you allow any drying/curing time for each layer before doing the next?

      @simonproatl  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You need silicone around the drain between preslope and liner. It's better to wait till every layer dries.

    Your video is great content, i like it. I have question though. How long does it take the dry pack to set before i can continue working? Thank you.

    homedepot is out of stock for the SAKRETE
    50 lb. Floor Mud Mortar, which other one do you recommend? I like your videos, I am about to do your concrete curb this week, next is the pre slope bed... just dont know which mix to use... thanks!

      For pre-sloped pan you can use anything that has cement and sand like Sand/Topping Mix. For shower pan is better to use 4 to 1 Mud Bed Mix

    Hi thanks so much for your video ! I found some fiberglass mesh but it is in rolls that are about 10” wide. Do you think I could still use it if I lay 5 lengths of the 10” strips next to each other and embed them in a thin coat Of thinset? Or do you recommend that I keep looking for one solid piece of fiberglass mesh?

      @@simonproatlthank you! Actually I went to a Brick and stone supply store and found the huge roll of fiberglass mesh. I have 3 showers to do so I decided it was worth the cost!

    Hi. Do you have to put a pre-slope below the dry pack? I was planning to do a dry pack pan thats sloped to a flo fx drain kit. Its going on a slab. Can i just do a sloped dry pack pan, then use the waterproof membrane, then tile? Thank you for making great video.

      When I prep the shower I will use dry pack mortar to build pre slope pan that creates slope for rubber liner. Then i will install rubber liner and build shower pan using dry pack mortar. I never used Fx drain kit.

    Hi. Did you apply the waterproofing right away ? Didn’t let the mud bed to dry ? Thanks.

    • @simonproatl
      @simonproatl  Před 6 měsíci +2

      It's better to wait till it dries but it will bond very well to damp surfaces.

    • @laurenharper1510
      @laurenharper1510 Před 5 měsíci

      I was wondering the same thing.
      I would think let each layer dry first because each different material shrinks at different rates, but that is just my opinion.

    Can i use fiberglass cloth instead

    • @simonproatl
      @simonproatl  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes. But it can get expensive. I used it on the shower curbs in the past. You can find large mesh in stucco supply store or on ebay.

  • @StarrTile

    If you are waterproofing the surface of the motar then there's absolutely no reason to do a pre-slope.... a pre-slope is meant for a water in water out system and that's not what you're doing here 🤦🏻‍♂️

      @@StarrTile I always build pre-sloped pan and waterproof it before installing shower and liner and building a shower pan. It's a extra protection in case shower pan liner fails. I don't waterproof shower pan! I started building pre-sloped pans 18 years ago and not even one shower ever leaked and all my shower pan always stay nice and dry. Bad contractors always laugh when I mention that I build pre-sloped pan before installing shower pan liner.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile Před 4 dny

      @simonproatl I have been on CZcams for 14 years and in that time I have shown where a pre-slope does not work as intended, it may make you feel better but it does absolutely zero to stop any kind of damage. Going forward from about 5 years ago everybody does a sealed system so your entire shower should be functional without one piece of tile on it.... if you are only waterproofing your pan surface then you are doing an injustice to your customer, waterproof your entire shower and then tile and then you'll never ever have a failure
