In all my 27 years of working in the residential construction industry. I can honestly say, I have never seen someone make such wet dry pack. I'm sure it was much easier to work with.
I never work with wet dry pack, standard concrete mix only. And yes, that make my work smooth and easier.
@@FixitAll pretty sure he was being sarcastic
You're defeating the purpose of a mud pan by using concrete mix. Eventually the pan is going to become saturated with water with no place to go. This is the wrong way to build a shower pan and shower.
Good job i like the time u spend to do all the details
Wow good job
Thank you.
The liner has a lip up to go over the bottom flange of the drain which means it will hold water for sure.
you embedded the hardibacker in the pan material which means the hardibacker will soak up water up the back side of it. The hardibacker will eventually deteriorate.
If you were to change a little bit of your systems and processes I think you would be a lot better off.
Thank you for advice !!!
@@FixitAll no, I built my first couple showers just like you did, and I learned quick it wasn't good. I learned that method from a guy I thought was good, I was young and naive and didn't know better. I've since done many showers and feel after years of removing failed systems I've figured out what not to do. Although I don't exactly agree with everything many if the main tile CZcamsrs do, you can't go wrong watching them. Star tile, landberg tile, tile master Georgia, sal di blasi are all great to learn from, and do things different enough for you to pick a way that works for you, but is also professional and has been tested. Not to pile on but every puncture in that liner from your screws is a potential point of failure. I didn't see any gravel around the drain. Did you just seal up all the drain channels and weep holes?
nice video, love the idea of not talking lets you watch what your doing. So far one of the best videos I've seen
This is a video that will lead to failures. It is all wrong...
@@BuddhaSilencr why? Just because you were thaught differently?
no, because I'm a professional contractor who stays educated. shower pan failures are common, and avoidable, this is instructions on how to make a shower that will fail well before it should, under any normal amount of use.
@@BuddhaSilencr can you explain why there are so many haters, but no unhappy customer that would say "man, you did a crappy job and I am going to sue you!" If his work would fail, he would go bankrupt pretty quickly. Especially given the exposure he has on youtube.
this isn't how a shower failure works. the customer has no fucking clue that thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of dollars of water damage is occurring. Ive fixed a LOT of these poorly installed showers, and the contractor who did it is long gone. This guy is a handyman, not a contractor with real knowledge and skills. Too many people are as ignorant as you, spend tons of cash, then a few years later have to pay a real contractor to undo the shit work and repair the damage, costs much more than the original shower. tisk tisk to defend this video with literally zero professional, business, or contracting experience..ffs
I thought cement board shouldn't be in the pan
fiber board is a no no

What there is no rubber membrane
Did he screw thru the rubber liner around the edges?
No he just put the screw on border wood to have a handle to take them out
Not in this video but when he was putting that hardi onto the curb with the clamps in the previous part of this video (first part) he went ham on the thing.
Yes... he do that it's crazy

I really like some of the things you were doing however I would be worried the screws that you used to install your temporary ledger board may of punctured your pan liner.

mixed it way too soupy.. need mix a dry pack so you can shape it.. & the wood perimeter guide you set is for amateurs....
Nice and clean job👌
For inside corners, should liner be cut or should it be folded as 1 peice.
Folded
Did you screw through the liner and how did you get those wood shims out
Myron Smith No screws at all
Myron Smith watch from 3:00 how to remove shims.
Your remodel video is very impressive. Thanks.
Roger Dodger Thank you.
You forgot to put a pre sloped under your pan liner the water is just going to sit there
I agree. Pitch the subfloor under the liner with ? But it should be pitched.
Luke Icke if u just told him to presolpe under the pan you are a bigger butcher fool than him
How tick the preslope should be?
I wanted to ask you about the brush and why do you use it over mortar is it to make even
Just help to remove extra water from surface without scratch on concrete.
Nice job
Porque no tiene zapatos??
0:11 I bet none of yall can put wood back together like this!
Why did you leave a big gap around the perimeter of the shower base, won't water just pool up between the base and the wall?
Watch end of this video, the gap was filed with same concrete.
Excuse my ignorance but when You removed the wood that were his guides to give a fall to the shower pan and I noticed that the wood had been removed with the drill how are you going covered the holes that were made to the PVC liner under the concrete.
The wood strips against the wall was not drilled thru the PVC liner. So there in no hole in PVC at all.
Similar pan hire: czcams.com/video/C1m9742IyWs/video.html
czcams.com/video/LSbB_ml0UtE/video.html
Many people who watched this video thought that I screwed in the wooden strips to the floor through a pan liner. No, I didn't screw them in because the wood strips were simply lying on the pan liner.
To remove strips - I screwed the screws in by only half an inch into the wood strip just to wedge the strip out of the concrete pad.
People that commented on how you remove the board never work on construction because something you do it like that to remove or apply presure to a wood
good video homie your a real pro
Thanks Bro!
This is so funny!!!
May be... but owners used it 5 years already.
You're good man!!
This is a video of what not to do when building a shower. This shower is guaranteed to fail.
I agree with you this shower pan will fail I done poured shower pans for years first mistake was not leveling the perimeter and second mistake was making the sand topping too wet
@@josephflores8487 not to forget the wood shims left under the perimeter boards.
Lhh
Also the wall board should not go below the pan pour.... Also should pre slope.... And am I the only one left NOT using wood in a curb?!?!!?!
@@josephflores8487 Sand topping???....that was CONCRETE!!!! he used in there!
Wonder how long it took to make the, how to tare out a shower pan video?
Wait till next Remodeling dude, i think in 2030-2040.
Wrong. Before that membrane gets laid, a pitch pan is to be set first. Then the membrane gets set on top of it. The drain being used this video has weep holes underneath the collar. That allows anything that should happen to get through the floor tile to eventually drain into the drain. But that won't happen if there's no pitch towards the drain underneath the membrane. You can use a 20 minute drywall mud compound for a quick set underneath the membrane. I do a dry pack on top of the membrane rather than mixing cement. Dry pack consists of one quarter Portland cement, 3 quarter sand. Mix well in a 5 gallon pail or large mixing tote. I use ice cream pails 4 measuring. Spread evenly to your desired level. Compact down with grout float and work around until at least 2 in. Thick make sure it's properly pitched flat and even. Much easier to work with then wet concrete. I then spray the entire surface with a squirt bottle getting everything wet and cover with plastic for 12 hours. At this point the pan should be hard. Allow pan to dry up while working on shower walls.
Thank you for advice!
wrong mortar pal...no pre slope, blocked weep holes for the drain, washed concrete down the drain...should I go on?...no liner over the curb...
You are a master. Classwork 👍

Kerosine works. That’s what I use on concrete forms when I build outside steps.
@@renaissancemen1 that is correct
Why do you perferate the shower liner around the edges? Why do you not wrap the shower curb? Why don't you use any kind of topical membrane to seal the shower? The hardieboard is water resistant but is not waterproof. It will get saturated. Also. Why do you not slope the curb? Why all the grout lines on the curb. I feel like you are just inviting leaks and saturation. Also, when the next guy comes in to redo the tile job, the homeowner will have to pay $$$ to install a new subfloor since you destroyed it by thinsetting the Hardie back to the subfloor. You are very skilled and seem to take a lot of pride in your work. I have just seen so many disasters, I worry about your clients. I really do hope somehow you found a way to curtail around doing this the correct way and this somehow works. Scary. But that said, thank you for posting. Its interesting.

HILARIOUS. I remember after the crash of 08, people were just trying to get their projects finished at a cheap price. I was so worried about getting by. But when nobody else had any work, I was sitting pretty fixing all those damn pans for a premium after people tried to save a buck the first time 😂🤣😅
This guy don’t talk much but works hard to make job hell a horrible.
After you shower, you can soak in the tub with the same water that splashes over.
The weep holes were choked shut with wet concrete. There is a reason you should use dry packed concrete. Water goes through it quickly on its way to the weep holes which should be covered with pea gravel or anything similar. His idea isnt a bad idea for a beginner to help them get a level perimeter but use dry pack concrete. If this is his home then any future problems he can fix. If hes a paid contractor, his shower curb will fail first! No pan covering the top 2x4 and no curb corners at the end. Hopefully he will red guard the hell out of the curb and seat, both of which should have been floated in concrete over metal lath or brick & mortar overlaid in concrete which is best since no nails or screws are needed.
I make a form and run my liner into the curb, pour my curb and cut off the liner at the top. Pack the dry pack under the liner on the outside, and on top on the inside, split in the middle. Never a failure in 30 years of contracting.
