- The 2022 Kia EV6 GT Line (~$61,995 CAD as specced, ~$55,900 USD as specced) is a fully electric crossover with optional AWD and loads of Kia tech. In the GT Line trim, the EV6 achieves a claimed range of 441 km, while outputting 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. While on a fast charger, it can climb from 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes. On paper, the EV6 makes a strong case as a usable daily EV. But how does it actually perform on a day to day basis? And how does it compare to its sibling - the Hyundai Ioniq5? Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE!

Our local dealer has a few and they have kindly added a $9995 market adjustment.
Will never deal with companies like this.
Yeah it's a scumbag move for sure. Especially since the parent company said it wouldn't allow it to happen.
That's illegal in Canada.
Why is everything in USA so absurdly chaotic.
Don't buy from that shitty dealer. They'll learn their lesson is nobody buys cars from them.
I would absolutely love either the EV6 or the Ionic 5, don’t think I’d be disappointed with either
Pls try them before u love them though (if u havent), as ive gotten burned with a few wrong cars over the yrs just because “everyone” said its amazing
Being Captain Spears and Bond, you can clearly afford and have both.
Love the ionic 5. Love it's looks
@@JohnSmith-me2wg Great advice. Just because everyone loves them, it doesn't mean you will love them and every car will have issues, and you just hope your issues are manageable.
@@JohnSmith-me2wg Yeah, just like the Tesla
The production quality has gotten so good on their videos. I'm always blown away with this level of production from a CZcams channel. Keep up the great stuff!
Have these guys moved permanently to the states?
@@nirajshuklaNL no, car companies or people who own the cars reach out to them if they want to film with their car and they'll fly out to the states to film it. most of the content is in Canada tho.
@@suck_lord5000 ah thanks!
My favourite channel by far, being English I love James’s innuendo and humour
I feel the same way! They’re banter is so wholesome but fun. I hope they start doing car challenges and roadtrips. They’re great.
James’ transitions to topics in this review were absolutely fantastic. Smooth and felt well written. “Thomas, give us some production value!” Certainly adds, but the cohesion of having good B roll and solid dialogue? Love the direction you guys take these reviews.
There was an EV6 at my local auto show. It's crazy how kia were able to make an SUV that has a wheelbase longer than a Telluride, but has the profile of a station wagon. It's deceptively large and you'd never know even looking at it. I very much want one of these
How’s the interior space compared to a telluride?
@@wyw201 tong seng but lau
So buy me one. Problem solved.
@@jaymueller2418 hilarious
This really is a great looking car and I’m somewhat upset it is more a CUV with its ability to disguises it’s hatchback look and visuals. I will say KIA has done a great job at attracting people from both the different ends of the styling spectrum with these two EVs
I saw one on the road just yesterday and was struck by how good it looked on the road.
Something to note is this isn't a big car at all. It's somewhere between a smaller cuv and a station wagon. Not as tall as it appears. A couple inches taller than the average sedan
@@Rome1017Lights hi Rome1017 🙏 KIA looks like a family friendly car.
You mean Hyundai
"Wheres Thomas, and Im James" was perfect.
Edit: It seems HMG have somehow done worse with efficiency on their full EVs versus the ones adapted from ICEVs. Im not sure if its the added weight or what.
ROFL I agree.
re: "Im not sure if its the added weight or what." it is, both the IO5 and EV6 are "porkers". despite being "bespoke" chassis, they tack on a min 700+ lbs each compared to the Kona and Niro EV's (based on ICE versions) that came before them. but alas this is the price of "improvement" since you do get considerably MORE space. #NOFREELUNCH
@@phillyphil1513 is it not just because they're massive, and like a lot of EVs chasing the SUV trend/luxury SUV trend
Different propulsion provider. The eGMP platform was co developed with Rimac, I believe, so entirely different from the one used in their other cars.
@@timaustin2000 Im not sure what your point is. Because what Im trying to say is that you would expect more efficiency from an EV that was designed that way fr the ground up and it appears that isnt the case. This is also the first time Ive heard of them working with Rimac.
Hyundai/Kia really know what they're doing here. I saw two Ioniq 5's on the road yesterday; they looked awesome.
Now they just need to make them at a mass-production scale!
Both the Ioniq 5 and the Ev6 looks soo good in person , the pictures and videos doesn’t do them justice 🔥
EV6 has been named the 2022 European Car of the Year (ECOTY), marking the first time for a South Korean automobile brand to clinch the award.
I think I still prefer the Ioniq 5. I dig the classic shape and the retro looking lights. Plus the interior seems more usable and a bit roomier feeling. Both are the only ev’s I would actually pay money for.
I have one. It is my first EV; my previous few cars were all hot hatches. I really like it so far .
EV6 or IONIQ 5? Which trim?
EV6; AWD; GT line s trim.
If you don't mind us asking, how much did you pay and how much over sticker? Delivery times?
@@richardnavratil9661 List price, but I am in the UK and I think mark ups are less common than in the US. It arrived sooner than promised - about a 3 month delay.
@@ontheballcity71 I was one of the first ones to order my GT a few months ago. When I did the contract they said 1 year till arrival (nov 2022) cause the GT's weren't even out yet. I got a 9% rebate of the msrp (its 8% now) and will get 6k back from the german government. Gota love the way europe are doing things. However I'm not sure if they gona mark em up if you do not order one asap.
This is hands down the best car channel on youtube right now. The creativity of the intros amazes me ever time.
I’ve recently seen an EV6 at night and I was just so impressed at how the rear lights look.. it’s like nothing on the streets, nearly crashed my car bc I couldn’t stop looking at it
Same here except i almost crashed my motorcycle into the back of another car while staring at the EV6. Absolutely stunning car
From pictures/videos I didn't think much of the EV6 rear taillights at all, but I was blown away at how nice it looked in person. So nice I almost rear ended the EV6.

@@richardnavratil9661 that’s funny. I bought my telluride in April 2020 from celebration Kia in Delaware at MSRP. At first they weren’t marking up ev6, but then they decided on $3k markup. That’s when I found Ricart Kia with no markup.

Both this and the Ionic 5 look fantastic.
IMO, the EV6 is by far the best looking of the current batch of electric CUVs (although I do think the Mach-E looks much better than it gets credit for). I saw an Ioniq 5 in person at the store the other day, and while it's certainly striking, there's something unsettling about how much bigger it is than it looks in photos. The proportions of an old Golf, but at the size of an SUV, feels a bit odd. But the EV6 is more of a unique shape, and although I have yet to see one in person, I think it's a very pretty car even with how large it is. If I could afford any of them, I'd buy an EV6 in a heartbeat.
Ev6 looks much better in person IMO
Eh I’m still happy with our model Ys
The Mach-E looks like an ICE car. Too much front overhang for my liking. EV6 and Ionic 5 look muck better with short front overhangs. No reason to design cars with ICE proportions anymore. While I commend Ford for getting their EV program moving. their EV designs are stuck in the ICE age.
the ionic 5 is cute irl, this is more traditionally space ship good looking, but the ionic 5 is quirky good looking and I like that more
I'm biased, I drive a veloster
I completely agree on the Ionic 5 front. Passed by one in the wild going the opposite way and I was just kinda bummed. Tremendous design, but at that size it just came off as so much more average than I was hoping
There are a few things that haven't been mentioned here. I test drove one today, and the sales rep had virtually no clue about the vehicle's features. He mentioned they had done a "training session", but his inability to answer questions I already knew the answer to brought me back to this: the KIA dealer network and facilities are not up to selling a $55K electric vehicle. For one, my local dealer is in a particularly seedy area of my city, and seemed more appropriately geared to those people to buying a Kia Soul than this very expensive crossover. The facilities were old, dirty, dated, and decidedly "low-rent", which didn't inspire confidence. It's no wonder they have EV6's sitting on the lot after several weeks. Their regular clientele can't afford this car, or the Stinger GT's sitting on the showroom floor.
As for the test drive, the EV6 was fine and reasonably built for the price. It did not feel particularly roomy inside compared to the Ioniq 5 I drove a week ago. The interior seemed cramped and dark, given the large size of the exterior...not terribly impressive for a $56K vehicle. Oh, wait. I mean a $62K vehicle with the $4K dealer "market price adjustment" and mandatory $2K "charging package" which seemed to include the 110V Level one charger that is supposed to come with the car, and a "220V Level 2 charger--I think" that the sales rep couldn't really explain or justify. Really just more dealer markup. I left feeling that I could buy a fully loaded Polestar 2 for the same price, with no "market price adjustment" and a much better level of build quality and performance. The problem here isn't the cars--it's the buying/owner experience and dealer network that falls short at the price.
Thank you for talking about car audio, it’s often pretty overlooked in reviews but it’s a very important feature. I love the explanations!
I love what Kia is becoming, this is a bit out of my price range but the facelift E Niro that’s aboht to come out looks pretty sick so I might get one of them
I need an Ioniq 5 on the outside, and an EV6 on the inside. So torn between these two cars.
Have to looked both of them in person?
Lol I’m backwards the interior of the EV6 sucks
Ioniq 5 seats are not comfortable.
I've driven both in person and said the exact same thing prior to seeing them. After seeing them, I still agree that the interior of the EV6 is superior, however, I ended up liking the EV6 exterior much more than I thought I would in person. The IONIQ 5 was the opposite. It looks great in pictures, but in real life, its much bulkier and bigger looking than I thought. Ended up taking home the EV6.
@@jpd7 same thoughts here as well.
This is … by far… one of the best channels. Thank you guys for all the effort you put into this shows.
This channel was impressive already but I’m even more impressed with the adaptability of the team! Great review 👍
Wow, good job to James, did a really good and entertaining review even when alone. Not saying I prefer it to when you're together, but you can definitely carry it on your own! Also I'm really happy Thomas was still included despite the distance.. shows you put effort in this. Love it!
The way of delivering knowledge about cars is an art and Throttle house has full command in it 🙏🏻
Steady on there, even a broke clock is right twice a day
I was really impressed when I tested the EV6. For me it would be either this (in its upcoming GT form) or the Mach-E.
Have you seen the Nissan Ariya?
Good job on the solo review ;) Both the Ioniq 5 and this EV6 look fantastic. It's about time there was a shakeup in the way cars look on the road, and these crazy new designs take advantage of the freed up space at the front of the car.
When James throws his phone in the frunk. 🤣💀
Amazing review guys, still hilarious to watch and full of great information. Side rant: WHY CAN'T WE JUST HAVE BUTTONS AND KNOBS FOR CONTROLS!? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO INTERIOR DESIGNERS... thank you for coming to my TED rant.
the worst thing is those screens will definitely wear out before the battery does, i want physical buttons that will not wear out and functionality that will die with the screen.
I know you guys act like you don't know how production works but my god this stuff gets better and better every time. Love the channel, I look forward to your review notifications the most.
Great review guys. I like the honesty of the details of the smaller sunroof, less interior flexibility, etc.
Is a great car and how far have Hyundai and Kia come over the last few years; that have definitely invested their money in the right area and people.
I love the looks of the EV6 so much that I couldn't consider the iOniq. Such an eye catcher.
Have seen a couple of EV6s in Sweden and man they look good
Nice review James. Glad to see your review on the Kia EV6! Thanks for your lovely reviews! From your Big fan from Korea!
Love your guys way of making videos and reviews -
Thanks for another great video and a good laugh ❤👍
At this point, I'd only lease EVs, I absolutely love this car and wanted it myself but battery technology is supposed to be insane in the next few years where we will see those 500+ range cars more often than not
Agreed, market and technology is still growing and plenty of room to improve. Biggest selling point will be battery range, and any EV you buy now will be near obsolete and drop drastically in resale value in a couple of years.
Waiting for better range, less weight, and ease of charging anywhere.
Is there even enough material on the earth for mostvof humanity to widely adopt EVS?
@Aryan A Aluminum air batteries have to be replaced at that 2-3k interval, or at least have the aluminum within the battery replaced. They're more of a power source like nuclear fuel rods
@@baronvonjo1929 with the idea that alot of the materials in the future will potentially be man made, he's it's possible for sure, right now we're stuck on metals but that will change a bit more, less metals but more man made materials

12:36 The headrests do adjust. I believe you need to pull on them and then they'll eventually retract all the back automatically then you can pull them forward again to the position that you want them in.
Iconic 5 is still the coolest looking EV out there atm.
Favorite channel on CZcams period. Keep going!
Omg this was Classic! Thank you James! I appreciate the way you reviewed it like some other channel
I don't see myself going for a Kia but I'm glad that their designers are going all out along with the guys at Hyundai
Don’t forget the Polestar 2, especially if you want the option of genuine performance parts beyond just fast acceleration.
Anyone that will purchase and Hyundai or Kia is not in the market for Tesla or Polestar2 as they are over $100K vehicles.
@@davidestate Are they relatively more expensive in Canada? Polestar 2 Dual Motor is roughly $53k to $67k USD in the US depending on option packages. Model 3 is actually slightly cheaper if you skip the self driving stuff.
@@timefly4221 Not thinking about the Model 3 entry but the Model X or Model S and I meant to say Lusid as these models are for bigger pocket clients.
Been seeing these in dealer lots, had no idea what they were, glad to finally learn about them
Even apart the videos are so perfect. This is TV levels of production
Between this and the Ioniq 5, I prefer the styling of the EV6, both inside and out. But the differences in features that you pointed out between the two, especially in the back seats, strongly favor the Ioniq 5. Right now I think that I would choose function over form, and go with the Ioniq 5.
Excellent (and amusing) review as always!
It's too bad though that affordable EVs are still about $15,000 to $20,000 *_more_* than what is actually "affordable". Once they can get an EV under $30K, that's when they become a lot more viable option for most.
Cost to own makes them less to own than 30k gas card easily.jumped from a 2017 fusion sport to a 18 m3p and save hundreds a month with twice the price of the actual car. Gas cars aren't cheap to drive in comparison.
@@IReahpZz cost to own yes. But if you don't have the money to begin with... You don't have it. I want an electric car but the model 3 long range but it is astonishingly expensive here in Australia. It's twice the cost of an MG, Nissan or Toyota sedan/crossover. So I'll never make that money back even with gas savings and servicing
@@khavaliar 90 percent of people are financing a new car. Nobody is cross shopping Nissans and Toyotas with a Tesla. They are cross shopping bmws Audis and Mercedes. Made a 23k price jump in vehicles and saved 4k in just my first year of driving without including oil and maintence.ill have no problem making my money back in 3-4 years which is longer than most people keep there cars. Excellent review as always! I personally prefer the look of this one compared to the Hyundai. It’s still a significant sum of money for a Kia that gets less than 275 miles.
Trust me you could do so much worse in other evs similarly priced
Iqonic 5 is better looking. Especially the 80s retro vibes
Sat in this at the Chicago auto show a few weeks ago and couldn’t agree with you more how good this car is, especially the interior, and ESPECIALLY the rear seat being comically large to the point the reclining is actually unnecessary.
It would be nice to see more on how much cargo space is in the car. Kinda glossed over that and what it looks/is capable of hauling with the seat down (if they fold down). Thanks for the run through and quality production

6:56 ➡️I don't think the claim made here is true. Kia says the GT variant of the EV6 will feature an adaptive electronically controlled suspension, bigger brakes, and an electronic limited slip differential, plus a higher stop speed. So it will have some other performance upgrades over the GT line other than just higher horsepower.
Saw this on the road yesterday , I said to myself not a bad looking car and now seeing more in detail, Excited to see what comes up in the next couple of years in the EV world.

Honestly the entire Hyundai Motor Group is a corporation to watch, they have been slowly developing.... and were one of the first bigger groups to get into EV's. They have become quite experienced as a result.

Great video, know a lot of people who are cross shopping the EV6 and Ioniq 5. But oof no mention of the polestar 2, though I guess it does creep up in price to get some very basic options.

You guys do a great job and I'm not even taking into consideration a discount for kilometers and Canadian dollars versus miles and US dollars. I didn't think I was ready for an EV but the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 might change my mind. Just wish they were smaller..... maybe if I bought one in Canada it'd be smaller here in the States?
I'm definitely hoping the sound system has more flexibility once you go into the settings. I've had people in the EV6 owners group CLAIM to me that the Meridian system is better than the Harman unit found in the Stinger. But after testing the EV6 Wind with Meridian, and to be clear, I didn't do a bunch of adjusting in the settings, but for what I tested, I would call those people dirt nasty liars.
I have one and hated the sound system until I adjusted it to surround. Makes a world of difference. Baffles me why the default is so bad.
@@derektanner7144 thanks for the heads up home
Both cars seem really nice, great places to be and a great way to get an EV without shattering your wallet.
£40k plus to over £50k in the UK for the Kia. Hyundai is £36k plus to over £48k. Both are wallet shattering and only for the very well off at the moment
Absolutely love this channel
I had a very high expectation for Kia EV5 until one of my neighbor bought one and showed me the vehicle.
Let's wait for a 2nd gen.
Really struggling between this, the Ionic 5 and the Mach E! I think the Mach E also has the suspension pogo stick issue that James mentioned briefly here referring to the Ionic 5. But I actually think this one is my pick; it has the charge times, V2L, I like the cabin more from the driver’s perspective, and it charges faster than the Mach E. What was that comment about the Mach E being more dynamic that Thomas mentioned towards the end, though?
They think it drives very well. They have a review on one you can watch
I struggled between the EV6 and Mustang Mach-E. I ended up going with the Mach-E for the better interior and additional cargo space. The Kia's cabin interior is really dark and the backseat is like a cave with a solid roof and small windows. Kids in the second row will struggle to see out and won't get much light.
Get a model Y. Supercharger can’t be beat and likely better resale. Kia is trash.
@@kdrguru Model Y's exterior looks aren't for everyone. Model Y has a $35k interior on a $60k car. Tesla Superchargers will either open up to non-Teslas or get swamped by $10 billion in CCS infrastructure happening.
I was thinking about the Ev6 over the Mach E because of the charge times.. but in reality it’s hard to find those max kw charging stations that work. I was looking at countless of videos of roadtrips. And there’s plenty of charging stations but they both charge about the same time And also the Tesla ! They’re all the same. Just by a miles of range or a few extra minutes of charging times. So now I don’t know what I want. But I’m keep looking at videos aha
I'd still go for the Ioniq 5.
The EV6 is a good looking CUV and a good looking electric, but the Ioniq is so unique and individual in its design language for a car of any type, and in my opinion that's something that's been sorely lacking in car design outside of super/hyper cars for decades now.
Totally agree! This is why I wanted the IONIQ 5 over the EV6 as well. Interestingly enough, after seeing the EV6 in person I was floored and took it home (I saw and test drove the IONIQ 5 that we pre-ordered prior to the EV6)
I remember going for a ride in that vehicle at the Philadelphia Auto Show. I rode it on the E-track.
Very nice looking ride. Great review as always.
Hard choice. I like light interiors but don't love the white bezels in the Ioniq 5. But that's the only thing I don't like. I like the EV6s dash look and maybe the somewhat firmer feel it has would appeal to me. But the Ioniq seems to have more room in it. They both seem superb and premium.
It was a little easier for me since I just fell in love with the exterior of the Ioniq 5 and nothing in the interior bothered me. It's the first car I've owned that I enjoy cleaning. That said, you definitely want to test drive them both first and your heart go with whichever you favor in the moment more.
As usual, the ideal would be to combine Hyundai interior with KIA exterior 😂
I actually kind of like the kia interior.
So what I'm hearing on the EV6 is, if you're looking for a daily driver EV, and you never plan on going more than 200 miles in a day, then... it might be the car. OH btw very good job going solo James. I can't help but miss the repartee' some but you did very well on your own! Thorough, informative, entertaining, what else would we want right? ;-)
