    Great review James.
I've done 15,000 miles in one over the past year. It's a stunning car.
As you say they're not as big as they look in photos, more like a big hot hatch, and nowhere near as tall as a normal SUV. But unlike a model 3 you can get a dog in the back. Driving one and parking in London is no problem at all.
The only drawbacks I have found are the weak bass performance (come on Meridian!) easily fixed with an active sub for £250, The seatbelts don't always react back into the intended spot making them rattle (again easily fixed, and surely they will update this with the net refresh) and tyres are quite expensive (£300 each, pilot sport 4s) but seem to last well, I expect get 30,000 miles from mine.
It's mind bendingly fast, but also great fun, a real drivers' car. As you say really if you can get over badge snobbery it's more of a Lamborghini Urus rival than anything else. The interior quality is very good and in my 1st year absolutely nothing has gone wrong.
I even took mine round Brands Hatch when it was too cold and wet for the Mono and it was surprisingly good fun.
I have more traditional ICE sports vehicles, but honestly 99% of the time I prefer driving the EV6 GT, it's an astounding achievement for KIA.
(Oh and it really does recharge from 10-80% in 18 minutes, I've done it plenty of times. Porsche centres have fast chargers you can use that can charge these at full speed btw)
(The other cars are an original Honda NSX, Porsche 997 and a BAC Mono by the way, not bad competition...)

Am I the only one terrified of being hit by someone who suddenly has ~500bhp in their >2 tonne electric SUV having never previously had access to that kind of power (and never having wanted it)?
And, still, if you live in a flat (40% in the UK), you're screwed. Or do you have the spare time to spend (approximate figures) an hour charging for every 200 miles you want to drive?
The major problem is not EVs - it’s the lack of a charging network. The people who ignore that are the ‘I’m alright, Jack, I charge at home’ brigade - great for you, not for others.
(Oh, and if an EV works for your particular situation, do tell us all, because that means they work for everyone.)

A friend has the standard EV6 and when he first got it said to him how glad I was that at least Kia have worked out how to give a car modern styling without making it so ugly and ostentatious it would make children cry and offend little old ladies. It's a very handsome thing.
And it's an EV that just looks like a car. No silly vomit-green trim everywhere or 'look at me' badging. It's just a handsome, practical car that happens to use an electric motor. And then Kia have made a subtle performance version that is all of the above and blisteringly fast and fun.
I think the Germans need to visit South Korea for a lecture on modern car design!!
Between this, the Stinger, the Picanto GT-Line and the way Kia have always treated James well, Kia are fast becoming a brand I would recommend above almost anything else.

    Excellent video as always James.
As others have said, I can’t understand why a car like this (a ‘normal’ family car) has so much power and torque. In a world where we have speed restrictions everywhere, cameras, etc, and the point of ‘forcing’ us into Ev’s is surely to reduce the environmental impact of driving, then surely manufacturers should be making economical ‘just fast enough vehicles’ especially those that look like family cars. I’m genuinely fearful of being out on the roads with these vehicles about, likely driven by people with ‘normal’ every day driving abilities, with so much power and torque on tap, and without the v8 or v12 sound track to make them realise just how hard they’ve hit the accelerator pedal.
If it looked like a GT40 I would understand it.
Not a reflection whatsoever on your excellent video. ❤

I had a Kia E-Nero and wanted to purchase a EV-6 GT to replace it. The dealer wanted a ridiculous markup and I could not get the color or options I wanted. After looking at a Tesla performance model Y I purchased one. Cheaper because I bought when Elon dropped the price, fantastic easy purchase on line, and the vehicle is great. The supercharger network makes all the difference in the world.
I really liked the Kia, the quality of the vehicle was excellent for a cheap small car, and I would have liked the EV-6, but the dealer network and the markup left a sour taste. Couldn’t be happier with the Tesla.

I feel there is some room left to improve the efficiency.
If they manage a facelift to bring aerodynamic drag down to the level of the Model Y or Macan, and tweak the drivetrain a bit with new insights...it will be a lot more attractive. Example: the new Taycan added a lot of range with a slightly lighter battery. Model S now has a battery much lighter than the smaller ones from a couple generations ago. EV6 might get a bit large battery, but still really fast charging. For me, ideally the EV6 also came as EV7, just a bit longer. Say, as a superwago. Wagons are getting longer themselves, look at the new Passat and BMW 5.

It's a load cheaper than its closest European competitors, particularly once you start adding all the options that are standard on this - a load more reliable too I'd imagine - I bet for example, the wireless charging pad actually works, unlike any German car where it just turns your phone into a pocket warmer.

Haven't driven the Y, but have ridden in them many times. The design and interior feel distinctly non-special and the ride is a little busy and awkward on the bad roads near me. But the interior is very roomy, with excellent rear headroom. Otherwise, I'd be hard pressed to get excited about it. If I were able to go electric (not practical for me), I'd be way more interested in this, assuming I felt confident about charging. But it's still a big pile of cash for a car that only works as a city car due to range. 300 miles of real world range is the minimum I could accept. Lucid Air would serve me best among EVs (which I would love to see you review), but at that price I can get into a lot of cars. Keeping my V6 ICE for now!

I also live in Perth Western Australia so I charge the car for free from my solar power.
So i basically don't pay for fuel ever ,BEAT THAT.
The mass is super low so the handling is amazing for such a heavy vehicle.

These are dropping in value by around £1000 per week at the moment. This was uploaded 2 weeks ago and rather than £50k they are now on forecourts at under £44k. (I know that's not £1000 per week but they weren't actually commanding £50k a fortnight ago).
We're not at (or near) the levelling off of the depreciation curve yet either. Leave it until the summer - they'll be £30k to £35k then.

One of the things that can be detrimental to the battery is regular rapid charging, so don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s great to be able to use a rapid charger unless you are the first owner and trade it in after 3yrs so someone else has the problem!

    • @PhilJohn1980
      @PhilJohn1980 Před 8 hodinami

Nothing a cheap OBD dongle and CarScanner on your phone can't tell you. Car batteries also degrade far far slower than say, a laptop or phone battery as they have a pretty large buffer they don't use, and they also control the heat of the battery pack which you can't do with a phone. The 1st gen Leaf also gave EV's a bad name as it had zero cooling on the battery, so they didn't last long.
Newer battery chemistry, such as LiFePo as used in the BYD's and Tesla Model 3 refresh also degrade far slower.
But you have an 8 year warranty on the battery so if it dips below 70% state of health Kia will replace it.

Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons, I wish the EV fanboys would understand why EVs don't make good sports cars, and I wish ICE fans would acknowledge the obvious benefits of EVs when it comes to daily drivers. I say this as an enthusiast myself, I've owned several manual transmission sports cars including my current c7 Vette. And I'm telling you, when it comes to daily drivers, a well-executed EV is simply better.
We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year.
Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, lightweight, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars.
My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. EVs dont work for everyone (you need a place to charge and can't road trip all the time etc etc), but if it works in your lifestyle - try it before you knock it is all I'm saying. You might be surprised.
And like I said - just because a car is EV doesn't make it good. There are good EVs and bad ones, just like gas cars. For example, I' not a huge Tesla fan. But, the well-executed EVs are, in my opinion, the best daily drivers, if they fit into your lifestyle.
...and this is coming from someone that's currently on his 8th manual transmission sports car (Vette, Mini JCW, 350Z, etc etc). And to be clear - these are my favorite cars, not the I-PACE. But, I have a wife and a kid, and we need something that isn't manual and has a back seat. And in that category, the Jag is by far and away the best we've had.
