  • How to reset and relearn your tire pressure monitor sensors on a GM vehicle. This applies to most other makes and models, but getting the system into relearn mode will be different. Here I'm working on a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe but this will work on Silverado, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, Escalade and other trucks from the era as well as some cars.
    The hard way is to release air from the tires to trigger the sensors, but the easy way uses this tool $10 tool:
    VXDAS Auto Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor TPMS Relearn Reset Activation Tool OEC-T5 for GM Series Vehicle
    amzn.to/3aVNls4
    Budget Sensors:
    amzn.to/34BwHww
    Or search for OEM replacements on www.RockAuto.com
    The tool lists these cars and trucks:
    2006-2019 For almost all GM Series vehicles: Buick, Cadillac, Chevy, GMC,Opel
    2010: Acadia, Enclave. OUTLOOK, Traverse (VIN R/V) ,Allure, LaCrosse (VIN G),Antara. Captiva, Terrain, Winstorm, Avalanche. Escalade, Suburban, etc.
    2011: Astra,Avalanche. Escalade, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon (VIN C/K),Aveo, Barina (VIN S/T),Buick Excelle,Buick Regal (China),Camaro (VIN F),Canyon, etc.
    2012: Camaro (VIN F),Canyon, Colorado (VIN S/T),Caprice PPV,Captiva Sport,Chevrolet Cobalt (2809),Colorado (Other IO), S10 (South America),Corvette.etc.
    2013: Barina (5376837),Camaro (VIN F) (3106), Caprice PPV (3105),Captiva Sport (3101),Cobalt (3107),Colorado, Colorado 7, S10, Trailblazer (5392270),Combo-D,Corvette (VIN Y) (3104).etc.

    Dude, the tire shop couldn't program my sensors, fair enough, I bought the cheapest sensors Amazon had to offer, I figured I had bad sensors. I tried the air down trick, didn't work. But for some reason I still wanted to try every option before buying new sensors. So I stumbled across this video, used your affiliate link and sure enough, it worked!
    My wife can finally stop complaining about the tpms light on her 2010 HHR.

      Love it (other than the tire shop not doing it for you). Thanks for using the affiliate link.

    Hi there, thank for your video, I have 2006 Cadillac DTS, One sensor left front bad, I bought new one from Autozone, some how they didn’t work, do I have to buy from dealer? Please let me know, thank you

    • @WildMountainGarage
      @WildMountainGarage  Před 2 měsíci

      I'd buy off of Amazon or ebay or rock auto. Autozone will overcharge you. Dealer will rip you off. If still doesn't work try a local shop that won't rip you off.

    I've got one that keeps tripping as a low tire and the tool won't work for me and have to take it to the shop it's the back drivers side,it just did it again which is the 4th time

    I think the last sensor takes a Lil bit longer because it's completing the re-learn process? Idk, just ordered my tool from your link. We'll see. 🤙

      My check front left pressure message was on even after filling up all the tires at once, but tonight the air pressure light started flashing then said to service the whole system. Hopefully this will fix it.

      @WildMountainGarage  Před rokem +1

      Great! No, sensor was dead. Process is quick if sensors are good and fresh batteries in the tool.

    I have 2020 chevy truck tires and rims and a 2018 chevy truck. Will i just need to relearn the 2020 or buy new sensors?

    • @WildMountainGarage
      @WildMountainGarage  Před 2 lety

      I don't know that the sensor tech is any different between 2018 and 2020. 2020 redesign was mostly sheetmetal from what I can tell. Same engines and basically same interiors so I'm sure a lot of components like tire sensors are the same. I'd try to relearn the sensors first before going through the expense and hassle of swapping sensors. I have a 2018 Silverado 2500 and use a diagnostics tablet to do the relearn.

    Not all tires require the tire monitor settimgs witch sucks because it leaves the consumer to only purchase tires for that tire monitoring systems I've found that even filling a tire to its actual tire inflation could shorten the life span of the tire causing more damages to the tire because of over heating/no room for expansion and impact leaving no room for obsorbent for flexibility
    Regardless of what the tires proper inflation is i will always choose to set mine at 10psi less only because ive learned how much longer the tire has lasted over time and better it'll perform through out the tires life,
    Not a tire expert but it's my experience of why my tires failed and what i have done and found to resolved tire failure, so im now working on how to set the tire monitor at an actual lower settings like at 30 psi and 28 psi before the warning light is illuminated...
    Also i would like to ad that the entire sensor may not be defective other then a dead battery or a bad valve stem and can be serviced at a lower repair cost something to take into consideration before purchasing unesserily items and clogging the waste facilities as it already is there need to be a law for these vendors to recycle what they sell to consumers for a better environment...

    I have a 2007 Colorado and when I try to relearn the tpms sensors there is no light to indicate what tire to do. I have the relearn tool but nothing seems to work. What could it be?

    • @WildMountainGarage
      @WildMountainGarage  Před rokem

      IDK about the Colorado specifically, but if you're having trouble I'd honestly recommend a better scanner that lets you see the tire sensors, but maybe that investment isn't worth it for your needs.

    Is there one for a toyota camry?

    • @WildMountainGarage
      @WildMountainGarage  Před 2 lety

      I'm sure there is, and most makes. IDK what sensors Toyota uses, might be a different frequency, but all major car manufacturers out source these parts so it's likely similar to a few other brands. I have a more expensive scan tool that will do any, so I'm sure you'll find the right one for your vehicle.

    Ordered the tool from the link you listed and I still can’t get the tires to relearn, figured I’d try the tool because the air out method wasn’t working no horn honk on any tire I’ve tried moving it around the tire like you mentioned but still nothing. Any suggestions?

    If a horn doesn’t beep when scanning a tire, does that mean sensor is bad?

    • @WildMountainGarage
      @WildMountainGarage  Před 3 lety +3

      Make sure the batteries in the tool are fresh and you're close enough to the sensor. I had to be very close, on top of the sensor practically and on the rubber. The wheel blocked the signal. If it still doesn't beep on one of them but does on others, then yes, the sensor failed. One of mine did.

      Not necessarily. Those activator tools are pretty junk. can always try the deflate/inflate method w/o a tool.

      Haha, that's what most people do. Thanks! It was born out of the inability to pay someone else and being sick of getting ripped off when I did. Much like your eating out scenario. :-) It's really not that hard, just can be frustrating when something rusty and won't come lose.

      Idk the procedure for the computer but this or something similar would likely work. It all depends on the frequency of the sensors.

    Doesnt work on large tires with offset wheels. If your valve stem is further ino the center of the wheel, the tool is too weak to find the sensor. Im running 37x12.50x20 on a -18 offset wheel and the tool will not pick up the sensors.

    • @WildMountainGarage
      @WildMountainGarage  Před 10 měsíci

      It works on 35s for me. Gotta move it around to where the sensor on the tire is.
