This is shortly before Elvis died. You can see he wasn't the same man. His physical health had deteriorated to the point, that it was just a matter of time.
One of the nicest, and most generous people ever. He would give away new cars to poor folk, both Black and white. He bought poor families Homes, and he never told anyone what he was doing. God knew, and now we do too. Elvis was a very Godly man, despite his struggles with prescription drugs for over 40 years. He now sings just for The Lord.
    God Bless you guys
    Thanks

Elvis used to get so keyed up for his shows. When he "left the Building" he would go back to his hotel suite. And he couldn't "come down" - his energy level was too high. He would gather his singers together around a piano, and he would ask them to sing gospel songs, and he would sing with them. For Hours and Hours until the sun came up. That was the only thing that would calm him down. He LOVED old time gospel songs. Elvis grew up singing in church, and even sang in All Black Churches in Memphis.

There is a performance of Elvis singing the gospel song, PEACE IN THE VALLEY, on the Ed Sullivan Show that he wanted to share with the country after a tumultuous period in his early career that didn't reflect his true self. It is magic.
Later in his career, he would record two albums of gospel music for which he was most proud. His gospel recordings were the only Grammy Awards he would ever win. He made sure that J.D. Sumner and the Stamps provided the backing vocals for the.music that meant the most him. Listen to, HE TOUCHED ME and VRYING IN THE CHAPEL and try to hold back your tears. I remember with fondness my own Mother as she listened and wept to his tender message of Christ, the Lord, and Heaven above.

I got to see Elvis 3 times in concert from 1976-1977. You actually had to be there and experience the strong vibrations up in the balconies coming from Elvis, his band, backing singers (including JD Sumner) and that orchestra in order to understand just how excellent, magnificently perfect and powerful his performances were.

I know you all just did a bunch of Elvis songs, but maybe one day you could react to his song “Crying In The Chapel”? It is absolutely beautiful; brings you to tears ❤️

What’s amazing is the sound of Elvis and his band. Those vocals by his backups are if you look, they are sharing a microphone. There wasn’t the soundboards they have now and they all sound fantastic.

Great reaction and you both have deep musical insight and understanding. As a fan for over 50 years he was a complete one off and whether one liked him or not most would not argue that his stage presence was immense.

True story. After performing full concerts he and his singers would go up to his room in the hotel and gather around the piano in his room and sing gospel music for hours on end till the morning. Celebrities that wanted to hang out with Elvis after a concert would join him in singing gospel songs all night. I am extremely excited watching a younger generation being turned on to Elvis’ timeless talent, look and style. And also realizing there was much more to him than the rock and roll music.

Elvis' genius is in his arrangements. His voice is incredible but his ability to arrange a song touches you soul.

This brought tears to my eyes. I think when Elvis sang Gospel is was his finest achievement. I read he wanted to leave the world of pop and just sing Gospel - as he did when a child.

That bass is JD Summner one of the best quartet bass singers of all time. Him and Elvis were good friends. While in concert. Elvis had the best back up singers. One of the women was Whitney Houston Mother. He had the best of everything
