THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. He loved MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. And he loved MEMPHIS! It literally broke his heart that he was killed in Memphis. After the performance, he went backstage and cried like a baby! Nobody can ever say that the KING of ROCK and ROLL, ELVIS PRESLEY, was racist in any way! He embraced all people...black, white, yellow, red, and brown! He was a fantastic person, fantastic entertainer, and just a fantastic human being! In my opinion, one of the most talented people that ever existed! HE WAS THE KING OF ROCK!
TIME TO SEt IT RIGHT PEOPLE ..... It was recorded in June "68" ..... But it was the same Month Bobby Kennedy was assassinated ..... As these assassinations have become too frequent ..... BUT NOT ONLY ..... John Kennedy/Martin Luther King/Bobby Kennedy ..... BUT ALL THE People in the streets/And lots and lots of soldiers of wars Vietnam the latest at that time ..... An obvious ploy to keep power and control to one corrupt group of ti-rents ..... {{ Hence the Killings of these Icons and heroes taken from us }} ..... So Elvis and people around him talked about a way to help the people understand through song ..... And it worked to a degree as all great things get controlled by the power grabbers sooner or later ..... There are great big power grabbers that control almost all the news outlets to the public all the way down to little tiny power grabbers that just try to destroy anything good they can ..... So comes the song written by Earl Brown ..... And it was performed in the 68" Comeback Special ..... What was first called the singer sewing machine special ..... It was sung Three times live in that setting ..... BUT ..... It was NOT just a tribute to the killing of any one of the three Icons in the 60's ..... { BUT TO ALL THE KILLINGS OF THE 60's ) ..... It really goes like this ..... There was a Great speech " I have a Dream " ..... Spoken by Martin Luther King ..... On August 28, 1963 ..... And there was a Great song written by Earl Brown In 1968 recorded by Elvis in June of 1968 ...... Martin Luther King spoke to the civil rights movement ..... Spoke of peace through his speech ..... But the song was sung ..... To the entire world of mankind ..... By the greatest singer of all time ..... " Elvis Aron Presley " ..... But/And instead this song was sung for the aftermath of what happened from that era of the deep state power grab and control over the peoples of the world ..... SEE .......... It was NOT only for one or two or three men ..... But to the world ..... It was all the trauma that was happening all over the Planet ..... Not just in the states ..... It was infect ..... Two not only to the Brothers and one leader of the civil rights Movement ..... But also to the people dying in that movement which was created by the deep state trying to hold power by causing conflict and the slaying of all said above ..... UNDERSTAND ..... Then down his cheeks and chin ..... Elvis sang songs with emotion BUT WAS NOT AN EMOTIONAL SINGER ..... He did not cry while singing songs ..... He recorded Exactly 769 songs ..... Had to practice them all at least a few times ..... Elvis was the top professional ..... He sang all the songs with Emotion ..... Even old McDonald ..... He was NOT Emotional ..... Not any song ..... Not this one ..... Not that one either .....That one either ..... 'right not that one either ..... NONE ..... Anytime you read or hear he cried is gossip ..... That is how easy anyone ..... I thought Elvis only sang this once, and it was Live ...on the comeback special. This isn't Elvis singing this. That isn't Elvis' voice.
I'm no Elvis expert and up until about a year ago, I wouldn't have considered myself a fan. My mom, who was a beautiful black Queen, loved Elvis. But, my Aunties thought Elvis was racist. My mom would defend him till she was in tears. If I'm being completely honest, I leaned towards my Aunties perception; which is awful because I based my perception of Elvis from the opinions of others. I've listened to and read enough to know that there was no way this man was racist. What's different in this performance? To me this is Elvis the man; not the entertainer. A man with a serious message. He wasn't wearing his usual stage outfit. There was no comical interaction with his band, backup singers or audience! This was 1968!! I can only imagine the criticism he had to endure from the white community! Unfortunately, being a little biracial girl in the 70's, I know that hatred! Awesome reaction!
Elvis got so much hate because he had black backup singers and if they weren’t welcome on the platform he would just leave. He was the absolute opposite of a racist! He loved and respected everyone.

Not all white people are racist. I'm not. I grew up on Elvis from the beginning, and while there has always been racists of all colors, I don't remember any hate coming from my community toward Elvis, only love for who he was. And he was in no way racist.

I am a white Southern woman. I was 26 years old in 1968 and most of the white people I knew, family, friends and coworkers were extremely upset and horrified at the deaths of MLK, RFK and JF K. We were saying what is happening to our country.. Why is there so much hate? Contrary to popular belief, the majority of white people are not racist. One of the most profound statements made by MLK was to judge a person by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. I truly believe that. We are all God’s children.

Early in his life, Elvis attended a black church and sang with the choir. Those folks accepted him because of his love of Christ, and throughout his career, he continued to produce gospel albums.

Earl Brown was asked to write a song to replace White Christmas for Elvis' 68 comeback special which aired in Dec. of 68. Martin L. King had been assassinated in April and Robert Kennedy in June of that year. Elvis had been devastated by the loss of both of these great men. Earl Brown later said he wrote the song as a tribute to them. It has a very powerful message. For me, this song and the passion in which Elvis sang it was the original "Be the change you want to see." ☮❤✝ Y'all should really react to The King Is Gone by Ronnie McDowell. He sounds like Elvis but you can also hear his love and the pain of his loss. Elvis was his hero in a way. Both of these songs make me cry every time I hear them.

You have not even heard this song until you see the actual live version in the white suit, that aired on the Comeback Special in 1968. You must SEE Elvis perform this song to SEE how he felt. This song was written especially for him. I remember sitting spellbound, watching it. I was 14. :-) You also should watch Elvis and the Black Community, to see the man he truly was. There will never be another. Nothing could compare to his talent, and he was a kind, generous soul. A true legend! I'd give anything to sit in that coliseum and watch him live, just one more time. RIP Elvis. We will miss you always.

Yea his live performances were on another level. Especially in 1969-72. Aloha was good and he looked great and healthy, but his demise began after that historic special. It all started to go down hill from that point on due to his abuse with drugs due to health problems, the divorce and boredom. So sad.
The 73 Aloha from Hawaii was Elvis at his bests.

@@mikem957 Hi Mike. I read that because the concert was televised world wide via satellite, he purposely limited his gyrations and dancing and hip swivelling as to not offend anybody. He was in great shape and his voice was phenomenal, but he knew that there would be millions of Christians, people from other religions and conservative people watching this live stream. Elvis has inspired many singers & musicians. He loved his family very much, he showed it many ways. He bought his parents a new home, called, Graceland. Elvis was so loving, good hearted, loved to give gifts to family & friends. My daughters & I just recently went on a tour thru the beautiful Graceland. It was wonderful to feel his presence & walking in his home, where he had lived with family, friends & where he rehearsed. You could imagine & feel him there. There was always music. We stayed at the awesome & beautiful “The Guest house”. We toured his personal plane, named after his daughter, Lisa Marie. We walked the streets he did. It was a great experience. Our daughters were born in the 60’s, loved Elvis & sang & danced to Elvis’s songs. They have passed that same love to their children & grandchildren. Elvis Presley is a legend & will always be the “King of Rock & Roll”. Elvis changed the World of music in his unique way, that we & all the World fell in love with.”

Forget Hounddog, Blue Suede Shoes even Love Me Tender. True Elvis fans know his roots in gospel, blues and R&B. During a time of racial unrest he was the most anti racist of all entertainers. A God fearing yet fallible man, he never forgot his poor, humble upbringing and was genuinely respectful to all people, For that reason alone he will always be loved by all. This song closed out his 1968 Singer comeback special and I cant recommend highly enough watching the entire show. Just stunning and more than one glimpse into Elvis's thoughts and personality.
Extremely a very inspirational sound, with Words of extreme emotions of perseverance. This is the Most difficult Song to Master, and anyone trying to sing that song, will end up with a cracked Vocal Chord. That's why the only guy to have the guts to sing this Song is Elvis. Tying to sing a song like that is a nightmare, I tried and had to stop singing, because Everyone started laughing when the emotion of this song's words got too deep with higher notes. My Voice Cracked. It is an impossible Song to finish because of the emotional words. Outstanding Video and analysis, and great for giving Elvis the Recognition deserved for his Effort to popularize the Emotional Words.

I was 11 and had seen every movie he had made up to that point. Last time I saw Elvis was in Rapid City SD a few months before his death. He rocked the house! RIP

You two are definitely a great combo and spotlighting Elvis will no doubt help the channel inasmuch, as I said before, he has both - in some senses been given his due - and yet, in others, not. As you both alluded to yourself, which was a spot-on and superb commentary, Elvis slides so effortlessly between genres, even into semi-operatic songs like 'Hurt' if you ever want to listen to the incredible notes he is able to hit on that. When, too, he is actually sold more gospel albums than anyone in the world. (though I suppose that may not be too much of a surprise given he is the greatest selling solo artist of all time and it's not even close, while the numbers verse the Beatles can be argued, but because RCA's computer blew in 1976, that's why we're left with that mess. (lol)
While I also think his live version of 'American Trilogy' from the 'Aloha from Hawaii' special is perhaps one of the greatest live performances ever, especially because he knew he was live in front of half the world, at the time, and had to time everything meticulously so that it would be caught on the satellite feed. So pressure galore. But as to great rock n roll, which Asia was referring to, please pull up 'Elvis' 68' Comeback Special' and watch ' One Night w/You,' or 'Trying to Get to You,' which is masterful. As for those who say Elvis couldn't play the guitar, you can watch it for yourself and see that he was quite adept at it, although I'm not saying a world class guitarist, but because of that voice and other factors, he didn't have to be. Even though Johny Cash did call him the greatest rhythm guitarist he ever saw and I, quite honestly, feel that is because Elvis picked up so much of that rhythm and soul from his black friends growing up in Tupelo before coming to Memphis.
I've also never understood the 'Elvis is a racist," comments, as from everything I know, Elvis - and most especially for being a southern white in the time he grew up - was the least race conscious person who ever lived and we could all learn a great deal from him. (In fact, he dated a black young lady for a bit in the 70s) As he literally bent over backwards to give credit to blacks who came before him and did so much for others who are also my musical heroes such as Jackie Wilson and James Brown. As he paid for Wilson's entire $40,000 hospital bill when he had his first heart attack and continued paying for his nursing care, but Elvis sadly died before him. While Brown, who is wonderful and used to go to Graceland to stand behind Elvis at the piano to sing, literally stayed for hours next to Elvis' coffin when he laid in state and had to be asked to please come out when it was time for the funeral.
Saying all this, as people like you and Asia, BJ, combined with myself and others, can help put to rest this constant racialization that seems to go on in the country, one way or another, by loving one another!!! Inasmuch as I'm sure the both of you know, as well as me, that there is ONLY ONE RACE AND IT'S HUMAN.

A lot of people don’t know this was Elvis won three Emmys for his gospel music so there’s plenty out there you should try and find them. And yes his passion on this song gave me goosebumps. I’ve always been an Elvis fan but this song took it to the next level. Other songs to look for is Bridge over troubled water live and unchain melody live which was sung just before he died. Thank you for showing Elvis more people need to understand him and hear him more. Like you said he performance on white variety of different kind of music which goes to show it to his talents
Please look up Elvis's childhood.... He literally grew up in the poorest black neighborhoods in Tupelo, Mississippi. His playmates were the black children. He never, ever forgot where he came from. He was deeply, deeply spiritual. His nickname all the way from childhood was EP.
You mentioned you think of Elvis as a rocker... Truth is his first love was Gospel. I watched a biography on Elvis and he said after every concert he would sit with his band and sing gospel songs. Its how they were able to unwind

Thankfully, growing up on Elvis, I learned what kind of person to be. I wanted to just be a good person. Kind to all. He taught me that. I’ve studied this man for as long as I can honestly remember. I don’t have a time I don’t remember him being a part of my everyday life. I was born in ‘75, so, I mean that. To this day, I can’t watch his last performance without bawling my eyes out. So, I try not to. I’ve seen Elvis 5 times, so far, and bawl every time for two hours AFTER it’s over. We lost a truly wonderful person and only wish that what we know now about prescription meds now existed then. Maybe we’d still have him. Want to feel his presence? Go to Graceland and I promise you will! It’s one of the most moving feelings I’ve ever experienced. I felt like I was wrapped in a hug by him. It was so strange, but so beautiful. I’m a very emotional person, though. So, y’all may think I’m crazy. But, I was not expecting it, at all. It was just so all encompassing, I’ll swear to it. One of the best days of my life. For sure. Rest in heaven, Elvis. You may be gone, but you’re never forgotten. Ever.

I am glad that you’re playing Elvis again because his birthday is coming up in January and I really would like most of the people to really dive into it and see the different facets of Alves like I told you once before I’m 76 going on 77 in June and I saw many times on an off stage because they happen to know the owners that oh and Cesar palace so I had access but I he was such a gentleman and he was such a kind person and he believed everything he said I never saw any other way how do you some how he was and he has a sense of humorLiz the queen

For the 1968 tv special, this was recorded live in an empty studio as nbc's retaliation to him standing his ground to do this tribute to dr. king & bobby kennedy..once the cameras went black he literally collapsed to the floor in tears as all the emotions he poured out through the song finally hit him..
Elvis grew up in the church & specifically in a black church that was near his home which welcomed hiim & his mother..
gospel music was his absolute favorite & he had the largest collection of gospel music in america at one time...
the network was opposed to his doing this song but he had so much respect & admiration for dr. king & took inspiration from him he stood his ground & basically said no song.. no special..
the infulence of his church upbringing is so up front in this performance his wearing the white suit.. & he literally did take us to church with this

Elvis is quite underrated as an artist because so many people would rather tear him down than simply enjoy his music then there are others that try to exploit him so they can make a buck off of him.
Two things that Elvis and his true legacy do not deserve.
The group backing Elvis here is The Sweet Inspirations , his favorite backing group.
He was devastated when MLK was murdered. It wasn’t too far from Graceland in Memphis where he lived. He had memorized the MLK dream speech and could recite it by heart. Two months later Bobby Kennedy was murdered and he was introverted and found it hard to make speeches about his emotions. But boy could he sing them out. When he was rehearsing this, people watching said he’d become so lost in it he’d be in an almost fetal position with tears running down his face. He loved it and because it became so special & was written especially for him, he never sang it again. They put this on a record but they used this one. If you ever get a chance to watch the stream (on Amazon) or get the 68 Comeback Special on DVD , you’ll see him sing this at the end along with some other great songs during it. Ones in the black leather sitting and rocking it standing. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. It’s a beautiful song sung by a beautiful voice and by a warm, generous and kind man.
