5mins he said he wasn't sleeping well and everyone laughed as if he meant he'd been partying, but we now know he suffered anxiety and insomnia, so he meant it genuinely, not as a joke. As well as a world class footballer he's a world class human being with a heart of gold. he's never played for the team or country I support and I am still a massive fan of him as a player and a person.
He was left traumatized by witnessing his friends little brother knocked down by a car and he died in Gazza’s arms - he was only about 10years old when it happened
Regarding his sleep, I think he said he apparently played one of his best matches after knocking a ton of sleeping pills back, got up the next day for the match, played brilliantly, went home, fell asleep, and barely remembered any of it. 😂
@@VillaBoys123, he's not an evil man though. A wife beater and being an absent father (the latter of which is now sadly very common and accepted) are obviously not commendable nor to be condoned, but alas the booze and the drugs will bring the worst out of even a gentle, genial chap like Gazza when drunk and drugged up. He made his own choices, but he's clearly quite a troubled man.
@@alexandergomes3317 what day mean common now? As in working class? He was always working class. What the fuck do you mean now? What’s his social class got to do with anything
Great to see Gazza like this. He was my idol growing up (i'm 35 now). Such a shame how he spiralled to the lows he did. I often think to myself if I could turn back time and change one thing in football, it'd be that tackle on Gary Charles. He'd have been the best player of that decade/generation easily, maybe ever.
Very prophetic what Terry was saying. Poor Gazza if only he could have seen what was coming. That tackle one year later and his injury in the cup final. Being dropped by Glenn Hoddle for the 1998 WC finals in France, then down hill......
Its funny to think such a massive talent played only one world cup.He made me love England and soccer. Wish you a quick overcoming of your demons Gazza. Football misses you.
@@mojopin70 It's easy to blame the manager, but we didn't have the players to compete. The England team was going through a transition. The Sun Newspaper calling the guy a Turnip (from a bunch of journalists who have never kicked a ball in their lives on a professional pitch) was a disgrace and an embarrassment.
I met Gazza when he was in rehab but went out on a bender at the Engine in Henlow. He knew then that he would never battle the drink . However I've never met someone who could triple my pints and still feel like he could tell a joke and a story. The sad thing is you could see in his eyes he knew he couldn't turn back. The greatest English footballer of the time and possibly ever . I hope he pulls through. 🙏
His troubles with drugs.alcohol & mental health all stem from some deep rooted trauma. I know his friend died when he was young etc.I think fame, money & football accentuated everything. The way the msm hounded & slandered him for 20/30 years just to make money is truly abhorrent. Unfortunately there are a lot of vultures out there and they saw Gazza as east prey because he was so naive & vulnerable. I remember watching Gazza playing on the tv when I was a kid.He was a special talent,so exciting with such natural ability.
Gaza is another football tragedy, who couldn't handle the fame, money and success, and demands that came with being a modern day footballer. Like with most famous celebrities, the media built him up and when he was down, they turned on him and carved him up like a Christmas turkey. Gaza has to take most of the blame for his self destruction. He reminds me of Mike Tyson in some ways. As a player, he was one of the greatest. I hope he's living healthy these days and on the straight and narrow.
He had it all and somehow lost it.. But just as he was becoming good again, hoddle dropped him for France 98. That finished him altogether Great player 1988/ 91 very good player 96/8
A terrific player with talent but never fulfilled his full potential. He lost a bit of his magic after breaking his leg in the 1991 Cup Final. He was loved by the Lazio fans, he played some good football at Glasgow Rangers but was lucky not to get hurt or worse when he was taunting the Celtic fans with the flute gestures. His goal against Scotland at Euro 96 was superb and is still talked about today. Sadly he had his problems and this began to become heavy baggage for him. Glen Hoddle was *RIGHT* not to take him to France 98 IMHO. He wasnt the player in 98 that he was in 90 and his silly bugger antics were not what you want during a world cup.. Completely stupid when he jumped into the drivers seat of the Middlesborough team bus (after the driver went to the loo and left the engine running) and drove it round the yard, scraping it badly down a gate and causing 12 or 13K of damage.
"you are in a position most young men would say is a dream" Man looking back on this interview seeing the state of what he turned into must rip his heart out. Turned into an alcoholic wife beater and is now asking builders for cigarettes... That is sad. Even if he didn't become an alcoholic etc he wouldn't still be living the same life as when he was young but he could be happy in retirement still with his wife and have all his important things like his house etc.
I feel GAZZA was spoke to like he is a dim witted idiot... how rude.. it’s ok tho coz GAZZA set the record straight without even having to make an effort. Through and through

Heart of gold. Except for all the beatings he gave his wife. The drugs. The absent father. Heart of gold man!!!

Terry Wogan had a lovely friendly sincere manner ..... top guy
He was a class act Terry Wogan.
Rocking the tracksuit there, I remember those times.

I was so annoyed that twat Hoddle left him out, just to make a point. He even took the piss out of Becks during training. Stupid egomaniac Hoddle.
unbelievable footballer.the best!
2021 and I am still loving this guy.........."i don't why I can't sleep" haha we know why Gazza
Awww bless him man.
Came upon this after watching the brilliant bbc documentary on Gazza. Would advise any football fan to seek it out. Tragic tale.
Gazza 1990 was at his peak
alex kanyima No actually 1988-91 was his prime.
actually his best was probably at rangers around 95 but maybe the lower quality opposition helped
And he looked realy good back then.
He never reached his prime
@@lifegoals9528 Right -- so 1990 would be included, there...
He had the cheekiest smile here ☺️
He clearly buzzed off it while on the pitch as he loved the sport, but I admire how he genuinely didn't care for the limelight off the pitch.
Paul Gascoigne was royalty at this point..
A total natural!!! Absolute ⭐ quality!!! Naturally charismatic!!! England's best!!!🧐😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Great questions
good to see he is back on the recovery and the up, good luck gazza.

unreal player best of all time

He's our Maradona
Wigan seems to know exactly what was going to happen.

The England one from 1990 the umbro was superb 👌
Gazza was at his absolute peak at this point of his career just after the World Cup.
He should’ve came back to Newcastle
He should have been our Maradonna, but after his injury in 91 he was never the same player.
Injury free gazza could have ruled the world ! What a player he was but the unfortunate thing was all of his brains were in his feet ! Coyg !
a few buttons to make his voice sound great, no autotune in them days though.

Italia 90 was the best Gazza played after that it was downhill
He was good in Euro 96. And part after. I wouldn’t say downhill as such
Kung Pow Mike He scored one good goal at Euro '96, he was never as good after that injury in 1991. His peak was from 1988-91.
Nonsense he was brilliant England v Holland. Euro 96
He was great for rangers even tho I'm a celtic fan hurts to say it lol
England should’ve won it in the 90’s. Would’ve made a fantastic story and have made football history better.
