As a swashbuckling heckler, Buccaneer does a fantastic job of making it utterly painful to attack this sailor. Having different flavors of selfish mitigation, he'll come out of any brawl smelling like roses. Can't say the same for the rest of your army.
Lombardia Snub is the only way to get a real counter gunman going, which is sadly an exceedingly restrictive state of affairs. If only he had Quick Draw, he could be a cowboy on top of a pirate.
But Azelstan isn't the only unit who can go pirate. Throwing the class on everyone available can get you a surprisingly human team filled with Evades, with speedstar to boot.

The coolest part, though, is how Lomby matches his artwork. Also it's still pretty solid, I've had it in rotation pretty much all of post game.

You get 3 class marks when he joins because i turned my Denam and Canopus into scurvy dogs for a test and enjoyed it so much I kept them there. At least until I World Tarot to get Lord for Denam. You just get another mark (I hear) for taking the treasure.

Is back attack supposed to be used in conjunction with pincer attack? As in pincer attack you have to be behind them, but if you have back attack you could be anywhere?

If Rampart and sanctuary shadows didn't have miniscule hp, and the enemy AI used them frequently. Maybe then Shadowbreak would be useful outside of if there's some kind of hidden interaction elsewhere.
I don't think I've ever ran into a situation where I've needed to actually destroy an enemy shadow. And the few times there was a mildly inconvenient shadow, the characters that could have hit the shadow could also just drop a finisher on the enemy that made it. The shadows all disappear on the creators death too, so yeah...
There just doesn't seem to be a reason to use shadowbreak unless it does something crazy like sending damage to the creator of the shadow too or as others suggested the final fight clones.

    • @CoffeePotato
      @CoffeePotato  Před 5 měsíci

There's seemingly always something. Considering shadows only last a couple of rounds, I assume it must have some other functionality.

about shadowbreak, i dont have anything really insightful to say but it comes up so rarely. the ai knows how to use rampart shadow, and enjoys using it, but most of the time will just spam finishers instead. i feel like ive ran up against it a handful of times in DRAWN OUT story fights where it sorta mattered, but still not enough to justify the slot of a skill just in case the risk was there. the use of the ai for rampart shadow is not terribly uncommon but when it's deployed it isn't a dealbreaker - from my no incap no chariot no undead phorampa etc etc run, i never ran up against it once. from my more laidback playthroughs, i'd see it every now and then on story bossfights from knights. (like late chapter 3) but it never struck me as important cuz if you kill the shadowcaster it automatically dispels the shadow unless im mistaken

Shadow break instant delete rampart shadow, which is an ability the AI knight rarely use. Rampart shadow summon a dummy with the same tankiness of the summoner that have rampart of its own to block enemies.
Without speedstar, buccaneer isn't better than ranger. I build Canopus as double dagger guy who fly up on castle wall and cut down mages. I give him dragonfang (poison) so he can melt tanky guys too.

Damage is fine, but dual layer hyper shields kick ass.

Still theory crafting my team around my hybrid terror knight /berserker lord build here. (terrorserker, tersorker ?).
A buccaneer with speedstar, shadowbreak and evade might be a key here. Apostate might be a problem since it would block things like velocity shift or heals.
Since it's a special skill, it should be seen as a way of double attacking with your gun at the cost of 40mp and half a normal attack worth RT from the snub fusil. On shadow.
Speedstar, skill + regular action kinds of is the same as speedstar + double attack i guess and you can have two different weapon. And you can shadow break, move then use your action/finisher.
I was having trouble with my shadow generator, having to break it with a spear attack on the same turn. It's kind of not worth it and it takes a lot of RT. Here, he can come in, put a rampart aura of his own, breach/poison something from a safe distance with a spear (i'll sea if there's better status weapon once i'm deep into the postgame), and generate a shadow if he got enough mp.
Terror knight being the only other unit having access to shadow break doesn't cut it as it's way to slow to reliably set up cards. And well, denam is the main fear spreader anyway so even with lament of the dead.
Idealy, if the shadow generator could have drain mind as a spell, it would allow for almost a 1 shadow per turn and this would be completely broken, probably. Even more so as a terror knight, as he'd be spamming lament of the dead very often once a few auto skill card would have been generated.
But i'm already around having to use lord, buccaneer, shadow generator and a familiar (fairy for mild support, gremlin for more crowd control). Half a team for small map, that seems to be heavy. And what's bothering me is that i'm having a white knight with no velocity shift and guardian force instead as the shadow generator to tank more hit for denam so that the familiar lingering kiss do not kill it. And also to generate mp through hit for the shadow.
Theory crafting is fun, but i really have to test it as soon as i can craft a Dragon Fang. And since it's a double attack build that's around status and skipping rt, maybe best in slot could be nifrit sword and superior muso blade for the poison/stun + counter attack.

I recently recruited Azelstan and am still in the Pirates Graveyard progressing toward the end (have not left). I noticed that I somehow have 3 Buccaneer class marks and I have no idea where they came from. I didn’t expect to be able to get them until finishing the Graveyard and then coming back in afterward for alternate versions of the battles.
    Any idea what happened?

A good way to run dual wield is to use a dagger in one or both hands. Youll still out dmg a single hit and maintain RTs.

Very squishy? Between Evade, Apostate, Shield access, and most normal armor access on top..they're not squishy at all.
