i remember the final boss was giving me grief so I swapped everyone out for a bunch of dragons and chipped him to death with Dargon Scale. Good times.
Random things:
1: You really need Dragon's Eye to guarantee the status effect, and while you can get skill cards, you need 2 or 3 to really guarantee the effect 100%. On my current POTD run, I'm at the point of, even if I could use a Rank 1 breath each turn, I don't get the Dragon Eye procs to justify it.
2: Train of thought here on PotD:
On certain levels, I run into super units that are neutral but drop loot. I have found that, a Magic Poison effect does not cause them to aggro your team. But, on my best units, it's only 20% base chance to land at best, 50% with Spellstrike. So I was reminded of the Hydra, which has guaranteed poison with its breath + dragon's eye, thought of it as an option, then realized, oh, damage.
In chapter 4, there was this dragoon boss
That dragoon activated dragonslayer and attacked my flood dragon...while scales was active.
That boss nearly killed my dragon but he self KO'd
It sucks that Light and Dark Dragons do not have their "aura" from Knight of Lodis; Light grants +1 morale to allies in range while Dark grants -1 morale to enemies in range
You can get a similar effect Ogre Blading a Lich, Knight, and Terror Knight 😄
Don't forget to name your flood dragon "Bridge" since you can use them to get across later. Or Stepladder to climb up walls. (I forget if hydras can swim, but I seem to remember they can? Flame dragons work like bridges over lava, too, for your units.)
While Dragonscale turns off counter, if you've got pincer attack on, you can get some free bites in (and potentially lure everyone you bite to counterattack you and hit your dragonscale reflection.)
And while the AI will never just toss a rock at a caster's head, them boulders hit hard against squishies.
Much as I loved zombie dragons for Cressida to hold the base of the stairs with zero support, the fact that a 100% health item is healing thousands of hp for them means the living ones are probably better overall. Even if their only action per turn is healing, they're soaking up all that damage (and potentially reflecting it back).
True, I always forget to cover the coolness of Bridge strats.
I just comoleted potd floor 100.. Cheesed it with 4 summoners. Going for hanging gardens now. I'll probably use your 6 dragons with dragon scale strategy from one of your videos.
Would love to see a video on team compositions!
You have mentioned unit synergies many times throughout the KYU series, but would love to see some team recommendations for the main game and post game!
Excellent video as always Lord Potato 🙏
I was doing Synergy of the Day for a while, but no one seemed to watch those. I'll do more anyway!
@@CoffeePotato I would have watched them if I knew they existed 😛
Dark dragons go great with just about any magic based team, not just summons.
Between amplifying your mages' damage, being quite durable, and drawing in a lot of enemy attacks, they make a wonderful front line for a magic focused squad.
Been experimenting with them, golems, and prevailing element while having wheel'ed back to do the neutral path, and any cluster of enemies that gets enfeebled just melts to appropriate tiered spells for the fights from wizards & warlocks. Its even actually been more effective just using tier 1 missiles & indirects at times just due to the lower mp & rt costs to quickly & consistently chew through whatever recently became enfeebled, especially if they unclump a bit.
Could definitely see Dark Dragons pairing great with status+casting ninjas supporting them too.
That they do! Good call on the ninjas!
Bringing in a pair of dragons to annoying fights really got me through a lot of tough scrapes during my no incap playthrough. The battle with the twins in particular, which I was originally dreading after getting acquainted with the boss power scaling from Xaebos onwards and knowing now I'd have to face two overpowered turds in one fight, was made a lot easier when my scaly friends managed to cordon and debuff Oz while tanking Ozma's spells and slinging empowered boulders at squishies. Their damage isn't generally impressive, but that bulk combined with rampart certainly shouldn't be underestimated.
Awesome!!!! Ive been waiting for this part of the know your unit series 😊
Sorry that took so long!
@@CoffeePotatoI didn't know dragon's eye guaranteed the breath move, looks like I'll be respecing my dragons now. Thx for the guide ❤
I hadnt thought yo run them in pairs but a triple threat (weaken, Enfeeble, and Breach with a TK and LOTD 4 would make a broken team.
Dark dragons the best i think. I like using the hyrda too.
To each their own, I love the Fire ones for shutdown.
Saved the best for last I see :P
Hey thanks for putting all the work you do in these (and other) guides. Since you mention this being the last episode, do you have one on Buccaneers, or are they bundled in something else and I can't find them?
Damn. I forgot one after all XD
@@CoffeePotato eheh sorry! Don't worry, I won't tell anyone ;)
Thanks for asking for me lol! My exact thought when he said this was the last one😂
I love dragons in this game. In my first TO (LUCT PSP) I *really* wanted to use dragons because they were cool af and it was such a drag, but in this version, I really REALLY like them. I don't find them as effective as gryphons as tanks because they can't just fly into enemy fire to build MP and spam their moves, but in any map that's more defensive in nature, they are great.
KoL dragons are still the best in my heart though.
Fair, there was just something special about seeing your dragon score a kill and turn into a big ol divine snake thing.
Yeah, the evolution in KoL was really cool! I replayed the game last year (prompted by Reborn) and had forgotten all about evolution, so when it happened (my first one became a Vrtra) it was pretty hype!
Im finishing up chapter 3. So far ive only used both a flame and ice dragon. Very tanky.
That they are
Zombie dragons are amazing and can clear any map that doesnt have a exersist. But they are slow. God awful slow. I did a rare potd map with a team of them at 40 ish and it took hours... But I would say If you want an easy way to auto battle hanging Gardens try Zombie dragons.
So, I know conventional wisdom says that Flood Dragons are the best of the palette-swapped four base elements of dragon (because of their Breath ability) and that Flame Dragons are also really good especially for the lava levels (and also a good speciality Breath)… However, I sincerely and wholeheartedly believe that they have the worst f**king aesthetic with their colours for the portrait compared to the other two, AND the game taunts us with a gorgeous Earth Dragon in Chapter 1 that you have to either kill for marks, or just ignore it while trying (if you really want to) to keep Cistina alive… until you can World back and get it.
So because I can, I’m going to spite the fire and water ones by never EVER using them in combat, get the first Cloud Dragon as a permanent party member, and turn the unwanted losers into fodder for Deneb as needed (or permanently reclass into the other four elements). Because I’m not petty to real people, but the game annoys me here so I make my choice.
Good talk my good man.
I mean, yeah, fair game. Just keep that Lead breath on there, and they're solid.
@@CoffeePotato Appreciate it, mate; not that I expected otherwise, but it's still nice to be validated.
And isn't this what the point of these kinds of games is for, having fun with the classes and formula as you prefer? You can literally do anything and if done right it works.
Curing sleep and charm is the most useless effect in the game. All you need to cure those is a simple rock throw
No one I tell me I need to sell a bunch of dragon for orb to craft weapons in potd
You figure stuff out as you go along, everything is there for a reason. If you are referring to one of them carrying a zolia draught, it's a Charm prevention thing. The AI is pretty selfish, and if, while charmed, they see that they have a debuff, they will usually attempt to cure that before attacking. So, if you have a dragon who's breath debuff could tilt a fight, it's not a bad idea to give them a draught so that they cure themselves in case of a charm instead of turning around and mass Breaching. Given beast units have more health and lower armor than most infantry, they will be hit by ranged attacks more often, which can lead to a higher chance of a Flaming Blast giving them that status.
Dragons are the biggest crutch for new players. They are strong, have low RT and just won't die. Grab a couple of them and you're good to go.
In time I learned that there are more fun units to use (like gryphons) but a pack of Dragon is just safe. Heck, Denam followed by nothing but dragons is a valid team for chapter 3 and 4 as far as I am concerned! I do think Dragon are S tier for the main campagin, expecially if someone pursues the no incap no chariot titles
