  • So What Did I Learn? | My First Ironman - Copenhagen 🇩🇰 - Part 2
Welcome back to the next episode of my Ironman journey.
In this second half of our mini-documentary, you'll witness the grueling challenges I faced and the determination it took to cross that finish line.
I'm standing at a crossroads of emotions I'm not going to lie.
I couldn't be prouder of finishing this race, but as you'll see, it was a battle every step of the way. I could barely breathe, and I was disoriented and had no idea how bad I had become.
Yet, it taught me one invaluable lesson - the devil is in the details.
A single misstep, like switching my carb mix for a speed boost, nearly cost me the race. It threw my energy management into chaos, and I was on the brink of collapse.
But from this race, I've distilled three life-changing lessons:
1️⃣ You Sink to Your Training: My mind had to outshine my body because my body screamed "quit." Years of pushing myself physically and emotionally made me sink to the levels of my training. I knew I had to endure, even if it meant going completely off-plan to finish.
2️⃣ Chop the Elephant: Monumental tasks can paralyse us. But with an Ironman, it's all about breaking it into chunks. When times got unbearable, I remembered: "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
3️⃣ Proving Myself: ICU, a near predicted heart attack, and a mountain of questions. But it was about building trust - in myself. Trust that I'd deliver even when everything fell apart. I didn't have anything to prove to anyone but myself. I was going to finish what I started, even if it didn't go to plan.
So, against all odds, I can proudly say I am an Ironman.
The journey didn't end the way I envisioned, but I did what I set out to do, defying expectations for a 99kg ex rugby player.
In our next video, I'll dive into the details of my rehab, the plan moving forward, and the exciting news that me and Rach are expecting a little one!
Thank you for your unwavering support. I'm okay, and now it's time to heal, get healthy, and plot the next move and lock and load.
    Stay Strong, ⚔️

Hard as nails. Fair play for finishing. Amazing.
I toyed with the idea of doing something like this for about 2 minutes then decided no chance. I completed the fred whitton this year after getting into the road riding a year ago, but I hate running with a passion so would never be able to do it.

Thanks mate, never say never im not built for endurance at all but the aim is to master myself. One false move caused this to happen which Ill go over, but maybe try a 70.3 (half) first and see? Its an epic experience and challenge just like the Whitton!

Will, I remember seeing (and hearing!) you out on course. I was in a bit of a hole on the run myself for the first few laps and wanted to pass on massive kudos to you and your friends for getting over the line. We all have our different drivers for embarking on this kind of journey and the 13 hours I spent on that course were challenging, thrilling, appalling and enlightening in equal measures. Congratulations on becoming an Ironman in such difficult circumstances.

Hey mate, thank you! As bike courses go its very flat compared to most places (I live in the Peaks in the UK lol) I banged the bike and found that was just a time thing rather then hills etc! You looking to compete there?

@@staystrongcollective Thank you for the comments. I have two options for the full distance race. One of them is Copenhagen and the other one is Kalmar, Sweden. I haven’t decided yet.
