In this video I discuss a darting trend that I've been noticed with professional darts players. They mostly all seem to be using long points. Could it be because of a theory I have? Watch to the end! Enjoy the video

*Adrian Lewis interview talking about his points* czcams.com/video/wWzjchvWdYI/video.html
Dirk van duivenbode said the same thing about the board. He uses longer point now as well
I just ordered 65 sets of darts points in 35,36,38,40 and 42mm for 1$ per set. I wouldn’t have even known about repointing had it not been for your show. You are truly appreciated keep up the amazing work. I can’t stress enough how much I’ve learned from you. God bless
Rob Cross uses custom points made by Target, they are 40-41mm long. I see him most Wednesdays in our local competition
Worldwide, really nice review. I've been trying some longer points on a few of my sets of darts. I don't like the really long points, but the 35mm points seem to be a sweet spot for me. Thanks and keep the reviews rolling.
Cheers Mike. 35mm is a good length. Right in that sweet spot like you said 👍🏻
I’ve never tried a point over 35, but since I now have the repointing tool, it might be time for some experimenting! Thanks for the video.
nice video. i can see why players are trending this way. im using 34mm points in loxley robins v1.5. if i did move up a little i would go to a 40-42 mm. im still using the blade 5, not really a reason to change boards atm. congrats on 40k!!!!
Really good video ..great work!! 🇦🇺
Thank you! 👍
I think I'll start doing a lot more different sort of videos like this instead of the reviews. Day and night difference with views
@@WorldwideDarts I didn't realise how much of a difference it is especially with Searle and how heavy and wide his darts are.
Looking forward to the videos you upload next
This is a great video, I have been wondering if there have been using longer points across the board.
The barrels don't seem to go in as far as they used too.
A commentator at the world matchplay suspected De Sousa had different length points in each barrel.
I’m glad you made mention of the dart board cause i noticed it while they were in match. My guess is that everyone is using grip points now because of all the issues they used to have with the previous boards and its just tearing those soft blade 6 boards up. I use grip points on my darts cause i play on boards that are pretty beat up and without the grips they just pop out
whitlock uses 42mm points, 40mm sticking out of the barrel.
rob cross gets the surge points special made for him, his matchused set can be bought throug modus-darts. a friend owns a recent used set, the points stick out 39/40mm out of the barrel.
I've been on 41mm points for years. Personally I think it gives you more room in the treble bed and they suit my grip because I hold the dart around the front usually with 1 or 2 fingers resting on the point.
Thank you! I was looking for this comment. I'm holding the dart at the points, so I need a super grippy and probably longer than 32mm I rock now. So 41mm MIB Grip would be top notch on my to-buy Mervyn King SE 22g darts!
40k party!!!! It’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m extra proud of you!
Happy birthday 🎉 And thank you!
@@WorldwideDarts 40k subscribers! Congratulations! That’s quite exciting 😁
@@adjacentphilosophy680 Thank you, I appreciate that! The new video did so well yesterday that the channel went kinda crazy. Got a TON of new subs overnight and crossed another milestone
I ordered a set of darts and had them put long points in them. When they showed up I was excited to throw them in league that night but didn’t take into consideration that the longer points made the darts front weighted which I wasn’t used to. So, I wasn’t able to hit jack shit all night and repointed them back to normal length.
I don't like long points either. It feels weird.
I’m using 35mm Winmau Freeflo Re-Grooved. Love them
On my match darts I use a 30mm specialty point because they are skinny. But sometimes I like to switch to a different kind of barrel like a Whitlock dart it’s a 42mm. If I remember Simon uses a 45mm point. Interesting vid by the way.
Probably a pretty solid theory about the boards & all...
Up until now I've only used standard points in my steel tip darts, I have experimented a bit with different points when converting soft tip barrels. However, whenever I finally get my dartscorner package (3+wks now! 🤬🤬 I swear that's the last time... until the next big sale/discount I see lol) I ordered a repointer & a bunch of different type/length points to mess around with on some of my sets, so I'll update what I use hopefully on your next point-related vid.
Very nice Video Also 3 bullseye! Well done! 👍🌈
Thanks! 😊
I find with the Winmau Blade boards I struggle for grip. More on the old warn out practice boards in pubs, the match boards were sometimes better as they were newer but not all boards in the league were as good or new as ours. I started on Target Storm points and then a Target Diamond point. The diamond points I have at the moment are 34mm in the dart so could be 38mm in total. That was all with Blade Vs. You should find a Nodor board, I have a Supermatch 2 currently. I find those boards to be more durable while still allowing the dart in a good way. They offer better grip too. Unicorn boards I really don't like because the dart hardly penetrates and I used to have grip issues with those too.
Shipping a Nodor board to the States might not be worth the cost but I do like them. I recommended it to a friend and he likes his too. They're cheaper than Blades etc too because they aren't fashionable.
I’m a Nodor fan myself my first 4 boards were such. I bought the Blade 6 T core and and my bully section was trashed in about 6 months or so.
Hi my name is David Long and I completely agree with your theory. Also I'm going to try some longer points myself particularly the 66mm ones.
I have been playing the target yohkoh 02 which have 30mm points. Just ordered a repointing tool from dart shopper (cheapest repointing tool out there) to try new points. 35 mm here we come once international shipping happens.
4:10 I would say those are 42mm, as it is one of the lengths that his Bulls points that he uses comes in.
Good call there. I was just best guessing it.
OoO...What number ring is that on your board. I love that clean look.
on my previous setup i used 42mm bulls points, right now i'm waiting on a set of RD raptor gt black smooth points 33mm so in regular points that would be 38mm if i'm not mistaken. so yea been playing with longer points from the start. its simply to make the tripple beds as big as possible.
You are mistaken, the Raptor points are for some reason advertised with the total length. So 33mm is all you get.
@@justinress2782 well, looks like i'll be canceling my order. god i hate the non uniformity from RD sometimes. points are just a tad wider then all other brands, and now this little cherry. thx for the heads up.
Depends of the barrels i use and the bord it is fun to throw with 66mm points
Love the video! My standard point to use at the moment is Mission Glide Black 40mm points. I do have some black 53mm long points and some 66mm Frankenstein points as well. I have found that longer points don’t seem to have a negative effect on the flight path of the dart. I simply prefer Black points over silver points.
Could you test the darts Gary Anderson 85% dartset?
I'm using 30mm Target Surge on my Aspar board at home. We have Blades at the dart barv& my 12g Buntings do sink a little further into the Blades
Hi. Rob cross plays 35mm Target surge points.. Unfortunately we cant buy them..
Got Voks points in my Unicorn Striker and 30 mm Storms in my RD Hellfire.
Most of my others have 38 mm black Mission points.
No issues of gripping points on my new G3+
Great review WWD, keep up the informative videos 😎
I use two set of darts 0ne set 26 nano storm points the other set 41 mission points
The worst part about my throw/grip is how they sit on my fingers. I’m a front thrower and if i have anything longer than 28-30mm points i can’t hold the barrel at all.
I use 32 MM points 19Gram Andy Smith Pieman on a Blade 5 board at home but league games we throw on a Blade 6 TC
As my darts are light and skinny I don’t have too many problems.
Great stuff WWD 👍🏻
Thanks Smiffy. Same here. I use 32mm One80 points on my match darts. But my boards at home are firm as hell so no issues.
Great video! :) I really like long points (over 40mm). Unfortunately there are no such long specialty points on the market :/ That's why I switched from 41mm Winmau Re-grooved points to Mission Snipers (32mm).
www.ebay.com/itm/175283733123?hash=item28cfb98283:g:x60AAOSw0g5fK7zr
This is one thing that I don’t like, for whatever reason any point longer than the standard 26mm just doesn’t fly well for me. Literally on every dart I own I’ve tried longer points and no results. I understand the appeal though
I use 25 g paragon harrows barrel, which are quite chunky. Recently ive started using 40mm points, all my darts are now 40mm points
My vintage black widows have 1-3/4 inch 44mm points. Have been on there for years.
I’m dialed in with 21g Target Nastri and a 35mm diamond swiss point
I use John Brown's Gen 1 Target darts fitted with 36mm Gold Diamond Points - perfect for me!
Nice! I really need to review them soon. I saw them on flash sale at Amazon USA for $40. Should have bought them!
@@WorldwideDarts Not overly long darts, slim and not overly grippy but feel high quality!
I wonder which points Justin Pipe would play on the Blade6 if he still had a tourcard for this season… 😅
😂 He'd have to ditch the 50+mm points and go Frankenstein lol
Robs are custom longer surges. He sharpens the end so takes the gold off.
That makes sense. Those are some long bois. I looked at the online shops and saw zilch
Just a thought, but I think longer points allow easier grouping. I’m not sure it has anything to do with board softness….IMO
Definitely agree that they allow for tighter grouping but if the dart is sinking in too far they will have to switch to longer points as well.
Gurney uses 41mm points. Gary anderson uses 38mm points de dekker uses 41mm points. Scott williams uses 50mm points and i use 55mm points on my 32g searles. Searles points are 38mm mibgrip arks
A couple people mentioned Williams. I'll have to see if I can find a video with him. Does he play in that Online league thing too?
@@WorldwideDarts He was but now he doesn't need to since he's doing so well on floor events... Excellent player!!
@@WorldwideDarts he does, also been won a players championship against aspinall
hmm just got the blade 6 and mine are not soft
mission sniper 32mm. hope the others do specialty points longer than 30mm
I am using 34mm long basic black dart points.
Back 38mm points for me iin Peter Wright WC edition darts....Imlove the longer points in ll dart boards
Those are great darts too 👍
The points of Rob Cross's darts are 35mm. long! (See my new video)! Match Used Darts...
Oh yeah, those are nice!
Just wanted to give you a quick update with my game.
1200 Throws (400 Rounds)
Two BOOM 180s
Four... I said FOUR Robin Hoods using foil foldable flights.
Gary uses the Unicorn Regrooved 38mm points.
They make them in much better quality for pros. I bought them once and especially the grooves are in poor quality.
Rob Cross shoul use the diamond surge swiss points 35mm.
Personally I enjoy the Winmau Regrooved 41mm points
They use the same equipment that we can buy. The companies don't make special products for the players.
Cross uses custom 36mm storm points, so the whole length is about 41mm !
Any idea on the length of Damon hetas points
Some definite long bois. I'd guess mid 40's
@@WorldwideDarts any idea where I could get some
Im using 38mm Long points
I’m using the 35 mm Winmau Freeflo Re-Grooved. Love them
Me too, best ones our there 😍
Oddly enough, I use a One80 32mm point on my match darts. They're so skinny at 5.7mm wide that I don't feel the need for longer points... i.imgur.com/FtQp5Dr.jpg
With 7.5-8 mm barrels I can imagine going up to 45 mm points could help. But with straight barrels, I doubt you'll have any advantage.
Agreed. I use regular 32mm points in my match darts but they're also 5.7mm wide.
@@WorldwideDarts I guess if you're used to that, a long point would mess up the balance quite badly. Whatever you're used to usually works :)
I think it's better to abrade silver points across the point rather than lengthwise. This will make them grip even better, IMO.
I agree
@@WorldwideDarts - I used to use sandpaper or Emory cloth and pinch and twist the dart. This provided light abrasions crosswise and helped grip ... but didn't last very long. Also tried scraping them on a metal file and even concrete (with some success). Nowadays I use my grinding wheel which works VERY well for me🙂
Gurney barely fits into the frame. That's a big dude!!!
I am trying to go from 32mm to 40mm gold points. Ordered them. Mission Glide Points.
What about short barrels ? Lile humphries
38’s are my fav
I use Some 26 me Nano Swiss points
Remember Justin Pipe's set up. I believe he used 50 mm points on his darts.
Yep. He had some spears
I'm currently throwing 20g darts with 44mm mibgrip ark points. I really enjoy them, but mibgrip has terrible customer service, so I don't be ordering those again for a while.
I just ordered the 20g Boris Krcmar darts and the 45mm bulls ring grip points, those should be interesting. 🎯🎯🎯
I use 40 or 41mm Winmau black points. I have found that some longer points introduce some wobble or run out. Particularly the Mission. Anyone else seen this? I guess it could possibly be the drill out is not straight on the dart.
You mean the point isn’t straight? I’ve had that problem with Mission points, especially the silver ones. However, since they come in so many different lengths and they’re very cheap, they’re good for figuring out what you like.
My longest points are 35mm
Simon said he uses Alan keys for his points
I believe scott williams uses 50mm points in his darts
What about Scott Williams uses 50mm
43 mm = perfection!! Until you try, you have no idea 🤷
Why ain't you pdc player the way you hit 180s and triple bulls good video !!
How are you not playing professionally you throw they darts better than some professionals 🎯
How come this bloke isn’t world champion?just asking
I use 41mm which I find really goof
Good*
John lowe won the worlds in 1993 BDO playing with long points. myself i prefer 38 mm golden points. Have a Nice day
Punk points anarchist 38mm over here. Blade 6 is screaming 😑
With that much arm movements carnt believe you hit 3 bulls
Then you'll REALLY be shocked to see me averaging near 100 on some of my videos
@@WorldwideDarts after seeing 3 bulls nothing would surprise me lol
Long points or gripped points, the only reason that they are used is because the thrower can't throw the dart hard enough to penetrate the sisal to retain the dart. As for dartboards I lament the passing of the Puma Bandit and the Elm board those boards sorted the players from the chancers. A little time ago Gary Anderson nearly got skewered by a ricocheting dart, "amazing from a high tensile spider"
But it must have proved to Gary that he still has the ability to throw a dart correctly, something he finds exceedingly difficult lately. The trouble is that Gary has succumbed to the preachings of the so called experts who actually don't know what they're waxing lyrical about. Especially ex-pro's with Dartitis.
"Can't do it anymore but so willing to advise and destroy up and coming artisan's in any real sport and pastimes.
How many tries did that intro take
Probably just a few minutes. I go with the first decent thing I hit
