  • Darts equipment experiments part 4 and today we look at the points on a dart. There are so many different lengths of point available but what exactly do they do to a dart. In this video I have a look at how the point affects my personal throw.

    Nice vid Matt, could you maybe do a video with info on what point length pro players uses that you’re friends with and can get an answer from, and why they use that length?

    I have always used long points because I thought it was statistically better for more room in the treble but recently fell into some bad form. I was doing a lot of experimentation like your video and found that with short points I got a lot less wobble in the flight of the darts and a lot more accuracy, I was super surprised that just the size of point made such a huge difference. Thanks for the video!

    I love this! I actually had longer points put on my barrels and it’s made a huge difference! I was off my target by 50% probably

    Love this video I use long points and my darts have always stood up ...and I find that you are spot on the benefit is that with longer points and my darts standing up it leaves more of your target area to hit 🎯🎯🎯

    Really down to the throw. Personally use 41mm points, and a long set up all around with velos flights. Get at least a 45 degree angle when I'm releasing right.

    My experience with longer points is that I have to throw the dart with more finesse and be more consistent and not throw to aggressive. Where as if i use a 26-30 mm sticking out of darts I can throw aggressive and finesse with more accuracy. Longer point will tend to dive upside with flight side down. There is less room for mistakes in throw with longer points they are less forgiven

    Hi , I'm going to try some 40mm points (30mm in at the moment ) so with 5mm inside the barrel they will be 10mm longer . I've found that the size of flight changes the angle in the board alot more than maybe the point , I'm using slim standard flights now ,they give me a flat dart in the board . great vids as always cheers G W

  • @crosmondo
    @crosmondo Před 2 lety

    yeah awesome video. i use longer points for the exact reason you mentioned - it opens up the target area for me a bit more so it allows for more "room". i use 38mm-41mm points (33mm-36mm showing). now... me actually hitting the more "room" area consistently is a whole different ballgame. 🤷🏽‍♂️😂

    What difference does difference lengths shafts along with different length points have? That’d be interesting also too

    Great series. Just bought the 21 gram Cult darts with a grippy stem. Like to see this compared to L flights and stems or Fit flights and stems? Or a flights video. Plastic verses softer flights. Or shape verses shape

    This is dart tuning.
    Same weights come in different thicknesses , grips and lengths. Just use stem that gives you about 20° or your preference.
    Cool video Edgar.

    longer points defintely open up the target significantly ! I have used long points for years , I have them on all my darts

  • @KiteBear
    @KiteBear Před 2 lety +1

    Great video Matt!! great job done again on this one, I have been using long points for 20 years now. They were 35 mm of exposed point, and I went Up to a 46 mm of exposed point, and I am back down to about a 35 is mm of exposed point now because that is the longest points that I can get for my new match darts, that take a Reflex conversion point. As you stated these longer points allow more room in the triples to get your darts into them. Longer points also allow your darts to group tighter tighter. If you hold the very tip of the points together and put all three darts barrels together you will see a tighter grouping that if you did the same with short points. the flights will all be closer together with the longer points than with the shorter points.

    Length of points can change balance a lot . Myself was noticed that 32 mm out of barrel is enough for my 6.8 mm thick Showtime Fuzions .

    one thing not addressed if at all was flight dynamic ( wobble ) how does a longer point affect the flight if at all? I'm throwing 21.5g Danny Baggish barrels & replaced the stock 25mm exposed point for a Piranha 38mm full taper point ( 32mm exposed ) & I'm getting a slight wobble now. Here are my own internal questions...I'm a front gripper, do I now need to change my grip position? My biggest question to everyone one to include you Matthew is, Does barrel weight have an a say in your findings? does the outcome utilizing a 24-26g dart differ from that of a 21-22g dart?

    Hi Edgar. What's your thoughts about special points like harrows apex? After I got those changed to get rid of the "lip" I got way less weird deflections or bounce outs from another dart and flights last 10 times longer. Pros doesn't seems to use them though?

    • @tomgengar
      @tomgengar Před rokem

      Wasnt noticed any pro to use Harrows Apex points lol , plain Mission Glide points are cheap and good enough to do the job .

    Excellent video Matt and very informative. I’ve moved from 30mm to 32mm points and that’s given me a little more room. Most of my darts are pretty flat to be honest, around 5 degrees on the board. 👍🏻🎯

    • @LukePettit
      @LukePettit Před 2 lety

      When you say 30mm and 32mm is that how far they stick out from the barrell?
      Or is some of that length inside it?

  • @76Browne

    Did you find that the longer points give you a better chance and getting 3 darts in the triple?

  • @timosaareste8655
    @timosaareste8655 Před 2 lety

    I hold the dart towards the rear of the barrel but with a long point without any fingers on the point itself. Would that cause instability of my dart in flight upon release. BTW, you are looking svelte. Working out is doing you good.

      @BARDLEG Slender and elegant. First time I've heard a dart player described that way. (Usually, it's fat, obese, morbidly obese, etc.!)

  • @stephenmuir6812
    @stephenmuir6812 Před 2 lety

    Still find it interesting that John Lowe did not believe that longer points would benefit the player, considering the points he used around 1991-93 looked like they were much longer.
    Also, good to see Ryan Searle in the OOM top 32 for the first time...Adrian Lewis now 33rd, are there more problems ahead for Jackpot?

    How do you possibly get rid of your own bias for a video like this. Just knowing what dart you have will cause you to throw it differently. It can't be helped. The exact same set of darts has to be attached to a robot arm, that is the only way to know what the points do.

    It’s an illusion, you’ll still hit the barrel whatever the length of point.

  • @ThePrimot
    @ThePrimot Před 9 měsíci

    Do you blunt the points on a new set of darts? Or just let nature take its course?… I’ve read “dull” points are better for the board & wire hits.
