The security alarmism is aimed at increasing the military spending. A difficult topic in this country for many reasons. Among them the traditional far right leaning of the army (the past is still very alive and the ideals passed through generations… as not many of not pertaining to a “military family” end up there) … and the corruption.

Being incredibly lucky ,so far this year, 2024 I have been to Spain 3 times, and am intending going back out again in 3 weeks. I have been to Arroyo de la Miel , Benalmadena twice, such a brilliant place, and fantastic value for money. I have also been to Benidorm , you either hate it or love it. Stayed in the Helios Hotel, what a fantastic hotel, and what brilliant value for money. I am in my mid 70's , I have never ever felt unwanted in Spain, in fact just the opposite. I feel younger, whereas in GB I feel that I am nothing more than a nuisance. Those of you who voted Brexit and believe they need you more than we need then you are in for a rude awakening. They don't. Thanks to whoever made this video, very informative, and unbiased -well done.

I wouldn't buy a property in Spain to retire. I think you are better off renting and investing the money you have into something that can be liquidated easily and in an account that is offshore from possibly Spain and maybe in a trust. I am not a financial expert, but I have heard if one of you were to die the bank account of that person who has died will be frozen within days and death duties are expected on that persons assets as assessed by a Government official from the living partners account. I would get proper financial advice.

Don’t buy in spain. If you need to sell ( and NEEDING to sell as opposed to wanting, implies a crisis) it may take YEARS because of supply over demand. If you or your partner suffer a health crisis, you will need support of the level that only family can provide. In which case you will need to sell up and return to your home country. If it takes a year + to sell, you are stuck in a hellish situation. Added to that, the Spanish authorities will be all over your money and assets overseas to extract tax. And when you do sell they will keep 10% of the sale price to offset against capital gains- even though they have a record of the price you paid when purchasing.. It took me 18 months to get my money back even though my agent lodged a claim for repayment on the day my villa sold.

Of course “mucho dinero” will be allocated to deal with the problem and promises will be made by any number of alcaldes and other faceless bureaucratic types. It’s crazy how quick Spanish society would crumble with lack of food & water…… the death toll due to starvation would be greater than any attack & the Guardia would seize key assets & supplies…… looting would start almost immediately & food would run out in days as they don’t stock many tinned goods in rural Spain….. water contamination would only take a few days depending on wind direction………. On the positive side, summers would be cooler😂. I don’t think there’s many icbms aimed @ Spain, but I’ve been buying dried foods & bottled water since Russia invaded, just in case the supply chain is cut throughout Europe. While there has been a significant reduction in nuclear weapons, and a lack of weapon system modernization; it has really not been safe. In fact it risk is getting worse with so many smaller nations obtaining nuclear weapon technology.
Europeans should be concerned about Putin, Russia in general and other nations/leaders. As time passes and WW II is a distant memory with the survivors almost gone, the world becomes increasingly risky for more conflicts.
