    Great advice about dealing with family members who don’t want a whole-food plant-based diet. My hubby refuses to watch a documentary or anything. So, I do the best I can. The meat is a side dish and is only chicken or fish. No eggs, no milk, though he does like non-fat yogurt. That’s where we’re at. If you want to save your marriage, DON’T push your spouse. Ultimately, it is each person’s individual choice what they eat and no one else’s business. But, it’s tough for me, I admit.

      The main evidence is that older people should focus (even more than the rest of us) on high-nutrition foods. So a bit lower on grains. Higher on vegetables, fruits, nuts and legumes. And do include your b12.

    • @laurieparis2203
      @laurieparis2203 Před 3 lety

      @Michael Carney Right. But we do have that knowledge now and the ability to take a supplement. Thankfully B12 is widely available and inexpensive. The reason it's in meats is bc animals eat dirt that have B12 forming bacteria in it. Untreated water does too, but modern chlorine and chloramine treatments eliminated that source of B12, along with water borne pathogens like Cholera. All in all an even trade! 🌱

    I am 60 and do not want to wait until I am in my 70's to get healthy!! I have been mostly plant based but gained a bit of weight after breaking both my legs while hiking 4 years ago. Getting back into exercise has been HARD!! Plus I had a roommate for awhile that laughed about bringing in junk food and the temptations. She was a food collector, and I am a food eater... if it's there I eat it. Not a good combination. So now on my own and glad to be attempting to make better choices. Food prep and planning seem to be the best option for me right now.

    Ha, I didn't have such an easy experience as you guys. I have been 98% vegan since January 1 and have had great health results. Since I'm the main cook at home and we were already eating lots of veggies, they (spouse and 22 year old son) mostly eat vegan. But I haven't banned meat or cheese from the house and they sometimes make stuff for themselves. I am letting the results speak for themselves.

    Ive been 98% LFWFPB for about 8 years. My husband thinks it’s all hype and that my relatively good health in my early 60s is coz I’ve got good genes and he has horrible ones. This view is of course reinforced by the medics. He says that for the vegan movies that there are the people who say the opposite and back up their claims; humanity doesn’t know the truth. Not interested in doing ‘an experiment’ coz the food is horrible and continues to make pointed anti-meat eating comments which he considers humour, as well as tempting me with refined foods. Just as well I enjoy eating this way or I’d have abandoned it years ago. Hang in there ‘loners’, it’s worth it. 🤗

    My husband just ate half a meat lovers pizza. I sautéed onion, garlic, mushrooms and green beans over rice. We’re in our 70’s. He’s had four bypasses and part of his right lung removed. I’ve enjoyed being vegan/wfpb for around 10 years . He has no interest in watching any of the excellent movies about changing.

I will take a vitamin B12 capsule daily...

    That's great that some people have a spouse that will listen to "Game Changers" etc but my experience (and I've talked to others who have the same experience) is that my husband said, "no, I don't want to watch it or listen to it." I cook twice a week for both of us (so he eats 2 vegan meals a week), he cooks twice a week and I skip the meat and the butter/cheese he adds to the side dishes he makes and I add a big salad (he eats some of it but he adds cheese, etc to his share) and I steam a veggie for both of us. The 3 other nights we either eat leftovers or get take out or do what we call, "fend for yourself". It works for both of us because, after 50 years of marriage we are committed but it is frustrating for me and I can tell that he is very frustrated. My husband is an excellent chef but doesn't like to cook healthy foods.

    Fall weight gain for me is usually 5 to 10 pounds. The season is full of troublesome foods for me. Halloween, then November with Thanksgiving and two family birthdays. Then December with Christmas and it like all of society is full of candy, cookies, pies and other high calorie treats.
