- Please read the instructions carefully for your application, this video is a short demo to show what's involved to do the installation In this video we install a great support mod for heavy duty diesel pickups, a CAT diesel fuel filter with water separator from www.dieselfuelfilterkits.com. This is great for lightly modded pickups with a basic tune. If looking for a product for high horsepower applications, this is not intended for those applications.
"Diesel trucks from the factory typically come with a 7 micron or higher OEM fuel filter that is only about 60% efficient. That's right, 60% efficient! The injector manufactures for these engines recommend at least 4 micron or better! This along with increasingly bad fuel, and poorly designed fuel delivery systems on some brands is why they are notorious for taking out the injectors. In fact, OEM injectors are typically on backorder due to so many being sold worldwide. According to an in-depth research study conducted by CAT, the 7 micron particle has been shown to be the main cause of accelerated pump and injector wear in the Common Rails producing upwards of 26,000psi. These 7 micron particles blasting through your injectors at that kind of pressure result in premature failure which can cost upwards of $3,000-$4,000 in repair bills. CAT fuel filters are made to the highest level of quality in a factory, specifically designed to produce 'zero tolerance' filters. CAT built this factory that completely manufactures the filter without a human being touching it, because filter manufacturing can be very tedious and boring, which results in human error. The results of this factory process are a true, 2 micron fuel filter removing 2 micron and larger particles with over 98% efficiency. Do your own research on these CAT filters. For the money and the nationwide availability, you will be pressed to find a better filter out there." -Diesel Fuel Filter Kits

That one works. thx
@@cph3459 You're welcome
Love seeing the durability mods
Thanks for watching!
Great setup! Thank you for taking the time..........
Ya Fuel Filter Kits did an amazing job designing this product.
Tidy setup 👍
Ya I like how it's on the inside of the frame and tucks up. Very easy to get at and out of the way.
I'm using CAT 1R-0749 4micron filter that is bigger so more capacity = more life and
CAT 256-8753 10micron separator that is much better and bigger then baldwin BF1212 that is just 20micron... so again it makes it longer life and more capacity for dirt and water if you do loads of miles.
And no problem with fitting just fit it high nearly touching the floor and all is good.
Best benefit is bigger filtration area = less restriction in flow.
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
@@AnthonyJ350 There is also Donaldson P553203 separator that is 3micron what would be briliant but is small so need changing more often.
But using 3 micron separator followed by 2micron filter with big capacity could be a thing 🤔 But probably that Donaldson will need changing 2 times for every 1 of CAT based on small size of Donaldson.
But again 90gph I'm ain't sure if is not to restrictive with such a small size.
Great and simple setup. Will this kit work for a 2002 Cummins 5.9 ISB Freighliner, FS65? My engine has the worthless cartridge filter as well, mounted on the engine. If you got a kit, I will purchase.
Glad you liked the video. If you go into the description I put a link to where we purchased the kit from.
@@AnthonyJ350 Okay and thank you very much.
What year truck was that, also did you sand the line before you cut it or before you installed the compressoin fitting? One more how did you the get the fuel line to where you could rotate the pipe cutter around it up by that big block box separating the fuel lines beside the transfer case?
2012 Ram and we lightly sanded after the cut. We just pulled the fuel line a little to get the clearance for the cutter.
What year is your Ram? Did you remove the stock water filter to move it closer to the fuel filter. I have a 2018 and was wanting to install this kit.
This truck was a 2012. The factory fuel filter is still intact at the engine.
Question:
Will then stock fuel priming pump struggle pushing fuel past the 2 filter system shown here?
I don't think so because the filters are rated to flow a particular amount of fuel. It's been on the truck for a little while now and the truck puts on 55,000KM a year and we haven't had any issues yet. And the truck has some mileage already sitting at 330,000KM.
Just curious, what brand of rust protection are you using?
Typically Fluid Film. Krown is also good but you don't want it getting on plastic and rubber. Fluid Film is safe for plastic and rubber.
@@AnthonyJ350 Thanks, that's good to know
I would like to ask you guys something ...
I have a 2019 ram 2500 can I use the kit of the water separator and the diesel filter both together underneath the truck?
Thank you !!!
I would contact the manufacturer. Their info is in the description below.
I’m getting rid of the fuel tank screens in my 2000 f350 7.3 fuel rear tire 4x4 tool bed truck. Can I mount this on frame of my truck to catch debris and water before my lift pump YET keep my stock filter on fuel bowl at the engine? Thanks
That's what we did. The factory fuel filter was left intact.
Any tips on getting the paint off the stock metal fuel line to fit the compression nut over the stock fuel line? Can’t get the compression nut over the fuel line.
You can block it off and sand it. It is really snug.
AnthonyJ350 yeah that’s what I tried, but tried sanding it with 80 grit for over an hour and couldn’t get the whole nut over the stock line. Thinking about taking a rotary tool with a sanding flap or wire brush attachment to it tomorrow
@@gregtice481 The late 11's and 12's are the only ones that have this coating on the fuel line you need to remove.
Does the seperater filter come before the Cat in terms of flow direction.
From what ai remember yes
@Anothony J350 What do you do about the WATER SENSOR?
Nothing
I have this kit. Can I just remove the old filter from the housing?
Pretty much, you'll need to catch the fuel that comes out. This video should help czcams.com/video/9KoX4g7LEaM/video.html
How exactly does the cutting into the steel line work with this kit, I just ordered mine and doing a little pre install research
Zfox15 comes with a pipe cutter
You'll get a small pipe cutter with it.
@@AnthonyJ350 great vidéo. I m going to install it on 99 dodge ram cummins 5.9, to see if it works, because the oem fuel filter housing is broken.
@@pelvismc Let us know how your install goes!
@@AnthonyJ350 I m going to install it after my fass transfer lift pump. I hope it will work. My problems are 2 things , first the heater element and the second the water fuel sensor . I dont know if I can to cut these 2 elements.
Quick question: I have a pre pump single filter kit(one filter, a Baldwin BF1212 element). And for the life of me I can't remember how to change the filter without fuel going all over.
I untwisted the knob at the bottom to drain into a bucket, saw some water for the first moment or two, then good ole diesel. I then went to a clean separate container and it kept draining and draining fuel. Gave up after 2 gallons and put the fuel back into the tank. I've changed this filter a couple of times.
I just can't remember what I did without a mess? Don't tell me there's a check valve when you unscrew it?
I feel pretty dumb right now. Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you in advance.
What if you park the truck at an incline?
@@AnthonyJ350 I can try that, I think the last time I changed it the fuel in tank was very low. Was hoping someone can chime in for a no mess fuel filter change.
It seems that you have not changed your filter(S) since installing your kit 2 years ago, let me know what you do to replace these filters, or a video of that procedure, thanks.
@@rc9660 It wasn't my truck, installed it on my buddy's truck.
When you install this do you remove the stock fuel filter in the engine?
We kept it in, you still need to change it. Just not nearly as much, maybe once a year depending on how much you drive.
Can't you just take the filter out?
Are you still using the factor filter as well.
Yes we're still using the factory filter up front.
Will the Cat water separator work on this as well?
That I'm not sure, you'll want to ask the manufacturer on that one.
@@AnthonyJ350 thank you for replying
@@WhattHappens Thanks for watching the video!
None of the links work, none. Is there a supplier in Canada?
The website doesn't work? Did you try emailing or calling them.
@@AnthonyJ350 Doesnt work so I have no idea who to call.

Why in the world are you using CAT and Baldwin filters when you could be using Fleetguard, which is actually the OEM filter for Cummins anyways?? You're getting worse performance out of those two other filters.
Because that's what came with the kit???
I hate the live captions.
Reading isn't your strong suit?
