These two are literally the only games I play. I have been playing the sims since I was pregnant with my first baby in 2000, and stardew valley I've played for 3 years now since that baby I was pregnant with in 2000 introduced me to it. I love them both and I am not sure if I could be forced to pick a favorite between them.

You really cant compare these games. You could compare Stardew to Animal Crossing, but only very limited to the Sims
Stardew is one game made by one guy. Sims is dozens of expansions made by EA

Concerned Ape also added a new area to Stardew Valley, basically an expansion for free! And a new villager was also introduced. The next update will be the last and after this he will focus on his next game. Maybe a few hotfixes but the next update is the end. He also actively works with some of the most well-known modders and the main focus apparently is to make it extra modder-friendly than it already is.

Before Sims 4 I would have said Sims was my favourite hands down. Stardew however has taken over, I like the mystery and magic in it, the quirkiness and varied gameplay. Also getting into Coral Island which might blow them both out of the water when it's finished. Love your content btw, I've learned so much :)

This video made me realize how similarly I play these two games. Ive never been big on generational gameplay in the sims and instead try to build individual families up. Leveling up skills and earning money to buy bigger and better stuff.

It's very interesting these two games are compared in your videos because both of them express an ideal of life: slow way of life and anti hustle for Stardew Valley and The Sims first opus was a take on the capitalistic society and how consumerism was a hallow goal to pursue. Videogames are deeply political and philosophical! And all your videos are brilliant, thank you Miss Lore.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing sims my whole life but I find myself much more addicted to Stardew. I think the one you prefer is correlated to stress level/where you are in your life. When I was traveling and doing a lot of hobbies, I played Stardew. Now that I have more of a routine & I do less, I play Sims

I like both. Bought Stardew originally simply as a diversion when I didn't know what else to play, but quickly turned into my main game. However, I eventually get to the point of each day becoming groundhog day and that's when it got boring. Buying the Sims 3 off Steam this week and getting back into it after about 10 or so years. Been getting into the mood by watching Sims videos on CZcams.

I’m excited for Life By You, in my hearts of hearts it wasn’t the sims franchise itself that brought me to love it but it was the developers behind them. As Rob Humble helped with the Sims 2/3, it’s him and what he brought to the table with these beloved games is what is causing me to abandon sims 4 and looking forward to LBY. He alone is what is causing the feeling or the sense that LBY is home to me. Sims 4 never felt “nostalgic” for me, but LBY gives me that sense

My vote is the sims. It's never-ending and has more creative features. You create your own story/drama. More dollhouse style sandbox game.
BUT with work and love of Stardew Valley being done by one person, it still is a very beloved and special game! A for effort and execution. It's more of an adventure style game.

However i love Stardew as well. I don't like starting new saves all by myself tho, i mostly play multiplayer w my friend. But like you said, i appriceate how stardew is a complete experience in itself.

I would like to nominate Cattails and esp its sequel as one of the coolest life sim. It’s like Warriors with clans and cats with their jobs like a shop owner, doctor, etc. and you’re a cat too! Animal Crossing is also wonderful and while NL is my favorite for a cozy and simple game, NH graphics and plethora of options you can craft with and design your island and even villagers houses if you get the dlc and progress a fair bit into it is wonderful. I play the Sims spin off games like Urbz and enjoy those a lot more than the pc games so it really depends what you want out of a life sim. I like being able to do my own thing but also having a story and goals help keep things entertaining for me since I find myself playing the Sims 3 or 2 and after a while I have to wonder if I’m having fun cuz I keep playing but it’s an odd numb feeling?
I can also afford those games and they don’t have horrible bugs and even game breaking issues. If I’m shilling out money for everything the Sims 4 has to offer (I remember reading it costs around $1k USD?!) it better work. But no, let’s just keep pushing shit out and never even try to fix anything. I play Bethesda games so trust me when I say I can deal with bugs and not have most if them ruin the game for me, but I’m also not paying insane amounts for the games even if I buy DLC. I honestly think a subscription model would work better for the Sims and have it work like Nintendo Online where even if I unsub it still keeps my shit like progress in the games. I’d much rather pay a flat cost and have access to all the Sims 4 has to offer and maybe have an option to create a backup before unsubscribing if I no longer can’t afford it so when I can and resub, I can go back to playing where I was prior if I so choose.

As you stated, the Sims has really turned into a profit maximizer since the Sims 2, and honestly I've fallen so out of love with the same (especially Sims 4). My true love was the RPG like GBA/DS/PSP games sims put out in the early 2000s. Everything in the last 10 years has been so soulless imo.

I absolutely agree. The Sims is hands down my favorite game since I was a kid, and it will always be that way, but last year I decided to give Stardew Valley a try, and I couldn't believe how great it was, and specially the fact that it was developed by ONE person AND, you only have to pay once. I still play and pay for the Sims games, but it's so sad to see how cash grabby it is now. I do believe that it has always been that way though, since Maxis/EA have been slowly adding more and more content since the first Sims game. Great video as always :)

Honestly I don’t like comparing games as to which is best. It all depends on what you like. If Stardew Valley is your thing, then that’s best for you. What I think doesn’t matter. It’s what you like and I have no right to tell you otherwise.
Same goes for Sims. You do you. It’s no one’s business which I like and really doesn’t matter. I play games I like and don’t play what I don’t. I don’t have to explain myself to anyone and no one should have to defend what they like to me.
Btw, I own both these games and not saying which I like more….

  • @VirixPhilia
    @VirixPhilia Před rokem

I dislike that these are both considered the same genre. They’re just too different from each other! The term “life simulator,” is just too broad. I could literally make a game where the only thing you can do is use the toilet and label that as a life simulator.
SDV, while yes it is technically correct to call it a life sim, has too many RPG elements and is of course primarily a farming simulator.
We need to come up with a new name for the genre that has world creation, townie creation, omniscient camera, and no NPCs. Especially now that Paralives and Life by You are coming, we need more ways to differentiate them from the basic games that only let you control one character.
