I agree that they only gave Don the cheap telescope because it looks more like a telescope he would have. The expensive one looks fitting for the Curious family because they're completely into aliens and scifi, but it doesn't fit Don the bachelor who may just have it in order to impress the ladies. And ofc the photo looks much better like that. It's just a more stereotypical telescope too and gets the message across easier.
Don is into the medical career, so he may use it to raise his logic and become a better professional as well.
He clearly has it to stare at his neighbours... (Don't remember which let's play I watched where the simmer went "eww!" when seeing the telescope and I realized OH.)

I could be wrong about this, but I don't remember the chemistry system being too good before the Nightlife expansion. That could also effect the relationship since it was a family built before that.
That’s because it didn’t exist before Nightlife. There was no real chemistry system before Nightlife, and all relationships were neutral from the off. It was a major part of the Nightlife selling point with its dating system; a new chemistry system that improved how those dates go.

Personally I don't think that Mortimer is that much of a psycho. In the Sims 3 he has the Ambitious trait. Hence I believe that -much like his father- he is a work-oriented sim. And that had an effect on his marriage with Bella, who is more of a romantic, emotional person. Mortimer being the rational one, he probably does not understand her needs for tenderness and love.
I still believe that Morty married her for love, and does care about her still. He is just a difficult man to love ( Goth family members are always grumpy).
I personally am more fond of the obvious answer being a red herring tbh. Dina does make a good femme fatale, but I don't see how she could actually be guilty logically. I also like if the mystery is layered and maybe the truth is almost the opposite of the surface level answer. Like, in the PSP game Bella says she left Mortimer, so there is something we're not being told in the mainline game (assuming one is to take the PSP as canon).
As to why Mortimer is not married to Bella, from a technical standpoint I'm pretty sure it's because he's supposed to be able to marry Dina. He can't divorce Bella if she's not there either, so he would be forever unavailable for marriage. The lore reason could possibly be that nobody knows if Bella is even alive (she's just not greyed out because that would be a lie). But it could also be they actually divorced, or Bella just left him (a divorce in the Sims 2 is basically just breaking up, there's no law component in technical terms).
But it's something to muse about endlessly tbh. It's not the only mystery in the game, but it's the biggest one and the one where you can build the most layers around. What a great game tbh!
Edit: The technical reason for Dina being connected to Michael is probably because we're supposed to know she was married to him. Otherwise it would make little sense for his urn to be on her lot I think.
all of the "overlooked coding", errors, and missed information in ts2 makes for holes we can explore with our imagination. THX
Considering only pre-made deceased Sims are connected by marriage after death, I think Maxis just connected the dead Sims to make it look nicer.
Michael could be connected to Dina just to show their connection to the Goth family.
I believe Lyndsay Pearson said that they had spreadsheets of info to add to Sims, so inconsistencies could just be them messing up.

the accidental disappearance makes sense as the psp sims 2 game makes it seem like the aliens plopped bella in a random lot and she wanted to leave her old life behind (to the degree of selling the estate) but i dont know if that game would be canon or not

If the spouse dies, or get divorced, their connection on the family tree severs. Basically, Bella and Mortimer are "divorced" that's why they are not connected. Premade deceased ancestors are always connected, but playable sims won't after death.
If I could bring back any character in Veronaville I would bring back Sycorax Gale(Juliette’s other grandma), who would hate the Capps and like the Monty family. She has stolen many items from the Capps, and even has a secret room. She would hate Tybalt, but would have had a memory of beating up Contessa right before she died, and has stolen her portrait that Caliban painted before he died, and has plots against Goneril. Sycorax was friends with Patrizio since teen years, and was enemies with Consort and Contessa. Sycorax won a fight against Consort's parents and they died after, as there graves would be behind her yard. If you get the city expansion pack she would be a witch, pets she would have cats, and open for business her on park. Her Husband Prospero is dead in the back yard, after the golden anniversary party, and she has interest in crime and weather. She would have completed her golden anniversary, before her husband died. She has a painting of Consort Capp’s parents in her secret room, a painting of Contessa, and Goneril. All dead sims have a rose near their painting. Her house has an empty room, and even has a garden. In the secret room she has a book called Consort’s files.
I don’t have sims 2 or a screen recording. I was able to record sims 3 gameplay on my phone. If you want this to be a series try to copy and paste my comments to CZcamsrs.
I have a theory that the "burned recipe" memory in Mortimer's timeline was, in fact, related to the alleged fire that happened in one of the studios and forced TS2 team to basically rebuild the game from scratch. I know they've always denied such a thing actually occurring, but the game that was originally presented at one of the cons was SO DIFFERENT, and the animations looked a lot more "fluid", in general. It looked more like a prototype of The Sims 3, frankly. That brings me to believe that something DID actually happened that forced the team to have to being anew and that the only reason Bella wasn't in the game and couldn't be brought back one way or another, it's because the Sims 2 is, in fact, an unfinished game. They more likely than not did not have the time to effectively make Bella rescuable somehow, due to deadlines, and that was it, sadly. To an extent it played in the game's marketing favor, because everybody has been going nuts over this for years and years, so they still somewhat managed to avoid major disaster and people complaining, by making it into a mystery...however it would've been nice to have some options for closure, as well.
It's still an AMAZING game, don't get me wrong! It's just, growing up and realizing that it was, in fact, very likely and unfinished game, does make some, me at least, wish for some closure, at the end of the day.

What? They've never denied this. It's stated in the trivia game you play while the game is loading.
Maybe since Alexander was made before his mother, they didn't even actually have the whole Bella Goth disappearance story even made during that time and so they never added that memory of Bella being ubducted since it was that early and they overlooked that?
What's interesting to me is that in the Sims 2 aspiration trailer, there's one called Fame. I feel like Bella would've been given that instead of Romance. Especially with her becoming a Movie Star in Bustin' Out and in the very early development of the Sims 2 it looked like she was supposed to be in the game along side Mortimer and not be missing? Romance just feels like it was slapped on her, then they tried to go with it in the PSP game by saying she was only with Mortimer for the money. (which understandably makes people think the PSP version isn't canon, when actually a dev did say PSP is a continuation of events after PC, so yes canon). I swear this game went through so many changes. If you look closely at the story telling images a lot of character's faces are different, like why? I was looking into the Curious family and noticed that Glarn looks like a completely different person in his time with Glabe vs his time with Kitty. Interesting stuff!

Also, I want to add, that I like Dina. I also don't think she's a gold digger, she's just ambitious and dreams big. But maybe I'm just Dina apologists 😀
When I play with her, she usually end up with Mortimer and her married and having great marriage full of love. Or in my last playthrough with Bella and Mortimer being together, she was single mother (Don's baby) raising little Adrian and trying to became great lawyer. She later married a townie. And I really enjoyed this path.
iirc, the story album was also not consistent (might be miscommunication too)
namely when it says the Caliente sisters arrived right after Bella disappeared (to add the misdirection and mysteries about her disappearance)
but somehow in Don Lothario's story album, they were already in the pleasant view before the abduction (can easily be rearranged by us players tho)

About Bella being in love with Mortimer or not (because I read somewhere some people believe she married him for his money, might have something to do with resurrecting her but the script wasn't written with resurrection in mind)
Note that it wasn't all about the chemistry (clearly, she wasn't that into him because he wasn't her type. but that doesn't stop sims from falling love. Also keep in mind turn ons and offs were only introduced with the Nightlife expansion)
if we look at the memories of Mortimer, they've known each other for a very long time
1. they had become best friends since childhood, before he got A+ grade and then went into private school
2. they had their first kiss after they become teens and went steady.
3. They also snuck out together (for a date perhaps) and they made out. probably during the date, or maybe later down the line
4. They become adults, Mortimer got a job and they got engaged
5. after he got promotion and earned more than 5,000 on his own (not inheritance), he married to her, WooHoo for the first time
6. He keep earning a lot and Cassandra was born later
7. the story went on, and Bella was found at Don's condo before she went missing. And if you look at Don's memories, he made a move on her, and she rejected him. They were alone so it hints that she remained faithful to her husband, and she resisted his charm.
Another thing to note is that, if you view it from SimPe, Mortimer and Bella has 85 short term, and 95 long term relationship.
But the game only allows 1 marriage, and it's scripted that Mortimer remarries Dina - for this to work, they have to cut his ties with Bella
This might also be the case for any spouse, to allow a sim to remarry to someone else

Honestly, I love this, I think you should def collab w Marticore - she did a WHOLE series about corruption, disappearances, looking at TECHNICAL sides of things etc. She is FANTASTIC!
Back in 2004 when the Sims 2 came out, the family tree connection with deceased spouses stayed connected even with my own created sims. they also had their wedding rings on as i can remember. After new extensions/patches that was somehow removed, so all my newer sims had disconnected relationships in the tree after death. I downloaded a mod to fix that because I didn’t like how the trees looked. Must have been a unresolved glitch or something.

I enjoy your theory about Bella Goth. But I remember once watching an interview with (I think it was) SimGuruLindsay. She revealed that she was responsible for Bella's "disappearance". The original intention was that Bella would be in another city with her lover. Unfortunately, shortly before the release of the game, she accidentally "erased" it, resulting in the legendary disappearance of Bella. By the way, I'm from the Czech Republic, I'm sorry if I have a mistake in my text.

There was a theory that said the Caliente sisters used time travel mashine to mess up the Goth family..in sims 1 they are the same age,in sims 2 there is a big age difference and in Sims3that is based in the past they are both kids(no age gap). Don took part in all of it but couldn’t live with the guilt and could not marry Cassandra because of it so the Caliente sisters shipped him back to the past as well( there is a Don Lothario in the Sims 3)

I remember years ago I played strangetown and Bella goth was randomly in my households and you could play with her and everything she had no memories though, since then I’ve gotten a new computer and it’s never happened again but I thought that was so cool that I could actually play with Bella x

Ok since you asked for what I was eating watching your video I paused it to make my lunch.. Here is my lunch: bacon cheese burger with thousand island dressing, side of hamburger dill pickles and to drink A -treat Mike and Ike strawberry soda. I like the Goth family but personally my family in Sims 2 are the Grunts. There is different kind of family drama with them you still have what happened to Mom. So in sims 4 I like to add Ripp Grunt (usually with the whole family) and Introduce him to Cassandra via university, so Cassandra can get a better marriage than with Don
I think if both sims die of old age at the same time they stay married but if one dies prior the marriage is severed. Death do us part
They could’ve done sm more with her in Sims 4 :/

Mm maybe you tired this already but you're not able to connect sims in the family tree just by ticking the boxes and using the drop down in sim relations. You have to manually connect them in family ties section otherwise it won't show up.

Honestly, i think it's just game mechanics that were done in such a way. Bella needed to be "alive" for the family tree, but the token code makes it so she doesn't appear as an npc which explains the lack of family tree connection. As great as TS2 is, there were still shortcuts taken that we just want to explain away so it doesn't take away from our rosy view of the game. It's certainly an amazing game, but there were still a lot of oversights and errors abound, no where near TS4 level, but still there.
Snack Report: I made myself a nice hot cup of camomile, fennel & marshmallow root tea, snuggled under a blanket, snacked on some cheesy chips and had a few squares of dark mint chocolate while lounging on my back patio enjoying the late autumn rain set the perfect vibes for your videos 🥰
My theory is that Mortimer goth was having some relationship troubles with her so the caliente sisters saw an opportunity and got her kidnapped (they have a history of goldigging from old men) and she stayed and died in space, the other Bella being just a clone
bella goth was the sim i always played as in the sims 1 for some reason lol. i spent so long trying to figure out what happened, the family tree really made me mad because it was so weird.

i guess it's also worth mentioning the roadbumps in sims 2 development that was the cause of a lot of time crunch and initial features not being included. i wouldn't be surprised if somethings were changed or forgotten or even lost. Plenty of things had to be remade. so i wouldn't be surprised if some of the inconsistencies are due to that

The only place you can find Bella is in strange town near a certain household (the one with all the squiggly footpaths). It even show that it is Bella goth but it isn't her as well since she doesn't know her husband or kids. I always tried to find her and move her to pleasant view and get her married to Mortimer but it was never the same

Can someone please tell me a way to buy or download the Sims 2. I had it along time ago and by far still my favorite Sims. Id rather play that than Sims 3 & 4.
e-bay sells original discs! Make sure it's from a reputable seller. Your local second hand game shop would probably have them as well. I got several Sims 2 and 3 expansion packs for nothing in my local CEX (second hand electronics and games shop in Ireland). You can also try origin if you have a mac, the complete collection is still there I believe 😃

Well here's the thing about the memories if you look in some PE and keep track of it she will gain memories as things happen say Alex gets an a+ goes to college Cassandra gets married have a baby Bella has memories of course now I can't check it because I use a clean versions of pleasant view but I remember when I didn't that she had memories basic memories and then she gained memories like she was alive and was watching I kind of thought of her sort of like a guardian angel that watched over her children
