  • For our inaugural installment of #TurboTalk, Area Diesel Service Inc Vice President (and Turbocharger Expert) Von Leefers talks with Parts and Sales Manager Curtis Owens about the highly requested S366 Turbocharger.
    Von and Curtis “debunk” and explain some of the common misconceptions of customers simply requesting an S366 Turbocharger. The S366 is part of a broader line of the S300 Series Turbochargers from BorgWarner, as well as the S300SXE Super Core.
    They discuss the ins and outs of information needed to get the correctly sized turbocharger replacement and/or upgrade for applications - and how to match needs with the internal and external parts of a turbocharger. The millimetters, measurements and materials that compose a turbocharger’s hosing, compressor wheel, inducer, exducer, bearings and the exhaust components impact the overall optimal performance of a turbocharger in an application.
    Our own line of Axis Turbocharger Accessories (ATA) flanges, adapters, sleeves, etc. are discussed along with billet wheel, forge milled wheel (FMW) and cast wheels - as well as - highlighting the misnomer of “waste” in “waste”gated turbos (turbochargers with a wastegate) - suggesting that it should have been called a “turbo saver.”
    Von and Curtis go over the pros, cons, and details of S300 Turbochargers - the S366 Turbocharger and S300SXE Super Core.
    Thank you for coming to our #TurboTalk
    We plan to continue adding to the discussion of popular Turbochargers and Turbocharger Myths on our #TurboTalk playlist - • #TurboTalk

    Hey possibly unable to help but I have a question. Once the my car gets hot about 20-30mins of normal driving then there’s a whine won’t do it when it’s cold. The turbo is a bw s366sx-e .91 ar t4 divided and vband out. It’s not blowing smoke etc turbo is brand new less that 10000km it’s been perfect untill last week where suddenly it stated this noise. There abit of play when it’s cold but not hitting the housing and no in and out play. Slight oil leaking around the drain . I know it’s hard to tell but any ideas? 😂 going to take it off soon it’s ran a ptp turbo blanket as well

      You’re right its hard to tell what the issue is over the internet and not have the vehicle. I know you say you hear this whine when the engine is warm- but does this noise occur all the time? Only under boost? Or when do you notice it the most? If the turbo isn’t contacting the housings then its not coming from physical contact, which should be generated all the time- hot or cold. So that’s good. It could be an air turbulence noise if the air filter is causing an issue. If its only doing it under boost, it could be an intercooler leak due to heat and pressure expanding the cooler or any of the couplings between the turbo and the intake piping system too. The oil leak around the drain- is that as simple as tightening the bolts or replacing the gasket?- do not use silicone sealant in place of the gasket. Just make sure the drain flange is flat and clean of debris and the same with the bearing housing and use a new gasket.

    Hi what would be the optimal turbo size for a 4.0 ltr ford Barra? I am aiming for mid to top end power as I have a Na motor which has renonded for weak rod's. I'm looking for a mildly quick spool but prodemetly mid to high end power.. I believe they run a Garrett 3582.

    Titanium compressor wheels sure are nice. Holset has several and KKK has some. Not sure if BW is making any in their line though. I definitely recommend asking advice for most people when looking for a turbo change. Many Dodge 5.9l people get an s366 based off the horsepower number it can support and then are unhappy they can't pull their 15000lb trailer without egt's going thru the roof. I highly recommend people check out that AXIS catalog you all have a lot of good parts in there for people doing upgrades and modifications.

      3K is a brand owned by Borg Warner, and they also produce some Titanium wheel turbochargers under the Borg Warner name as well. Thanks for the comments!

      @@josiahjones5293 over fueling also causes high egts, mine will spike it 1600° @3000rpm... It has to do with CFM, not boost numbers... Too many people associate boost with power, it's just an amount of pressure/ back pressure available in the intake ... Means nothing as far as power output

    great video and covered a lot of important topics... I've been looking for an undivided S400 turbine housing, not too concerned about flange types, are there any available?

      @@vonleefers7914 I don't have a part number, I was just wondering if any housings like that were available for that frame.. , it would be the atmospheric in a compound setup so going divided is quite pointless

    • @vonleefers7914
      @vonleefers7914 Před 3 lety

      @@Rx7man Sorry for the late reply. In the S400 frame size there are a couple different bearing housings used and therefore the "pilot" into the turbine housing would need to be different too. So we'll at least need to know what size bearing housing you have and of course what turbine wheel your running. But yes there are open throat options available.

      well if full boost is 2 PSI maybe 2000 RPM but if you want 30 PSI probably not until 5000 RPM. You should probably spend a year learning about boost and saving your money

    Old s366 will make more than sxe ... look close at turbine wheel . Old one is “clipped”. Ultimately it flows more ..
