India got invaded so many times, not because Indians are good people but because there is no unity in India. There are many backstabbers in all forms of life. Lot of internal divide. In any given situation, many Indians would rather choose a foreigner rather than an Indian of different state, language, caste or religion. Any foreign power could easily penetrateand conquer India even today. But I guess new world order/UN/ Nuclear weapons are preventing this.

I teared up... Tears... That's how hard it hit me. It breaks my heart every time when I'm reminded of the way our country used to be before the British took over.
Being a South Indian I have visited numerous historical places, Temples, our architecture! .. I can't get myself to appreciate the work of art done by Indians centuries ago without tearing up.
Bhogananishwara temple in chikabalapura, karnataka. Built by the great cholas around 11th century, one of the temples that survived the atrocities of british. The work of art on the walls of the temple... Is splendid. The energy that u feel inside the temple is simply magical.
I sat down inside the temple with my mother reciting the incidents taken place back in the days because of british and how much we have lost and how the things that they say we have "gained" From their colonisation can never be worth the things we have lost. My mother's voice cracked up as she spoke. But the pride with which she spoke about our country and our RICHNESS , our CULTURE, the pure TALENT that we possessed, our most powerful kings! The CHOLAS the CHELAS the PANDYAS ...
    Goosebumps.
My heart felt super heavy upon hearing her words.
I asked my mother to give me a few minutes alone at the temple... I walked around ... Weeping... Gracing my hands through those magnificent carvings on the wall.
Finally sat down under one of the chopras ( arches) and simply closed my eyes for 10 mins...
My thoughts were put to halt and all I could feel was this heavy yet soothing energy all around me. It made me feel so much more at peace it was almost as if some kind of an energy spoke out to me and eased me down. I had an epiphany and I could see it all in my head... I could see india flourishing again...
I believe it can happen again. I truly do.

History from Kashmir to Kanyakumari (India's northern point and southern point) , from 2000BC to 1750 AD was covered pretty well.
And then, Indian history froze. They conveniently forgot about everything that happened in India for 200 years!
And then, there was a picture of Gandhi at a corner, a video of Nehru's independence day speech, and then Mother India got nominated for Oscar.

I am an Indian but i live in South Africa. This is because 150 years ago the British took large amounts of Indians from India and brought them to one of their other colonies which is South Africa. My ancestors were brought to South Africa as slaves, they were brought with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They were then worked till death. When colonial rule in South Africa ended, we were then plunged into the apartheid regime. Basically by law Blacks (Indians were considered black under South African law) and whites were not allowed to mix. We had different schools, hospitals, basically everything and we were denied basic human rights. Indians were an integral part of the fight for freedom. In 1994 Apartheid was abolished and South Africa became a democracy. i must say i am extremely proud to be a South African Indian as we have built our communities from the ground up but at the same time not losing our Indian heritage. The legacy of Indians being brought to South Africa is that South Africa has the largest Indian population outside of India. The sad truth is that a vast majority of us have no idea about which part of India we're from. Due to slavery and then apartheid, they tried to destroy our identity but our motherland still resonates in our hearts.

And yet India has more chronically hungry people than all of sub Saharan Africa. Mind you, chronic hunger is where you not only have no food in the present but don't expect to have food security in the *foreseeable future*. None of these countries you named treats their poorest so tragically. GDP doesn't tell you jackshit about a country except that its rich people are getting phenomenally wealthy every year by manipulating money from the poorest.

    • @Aman_waa
      @Aman_waa Před 7 lety +98

India has more people chronically hungry, yes, but what matters is the proportion of the population which is chronically hungry not the number. India's population exceeds that of the entire African continent. Sub Saharan Africa has 23.2% people undernourished while India has approximately 24%. What the GDP figures above suggest is that despite only a tenth to 1 fifth of India's population directly involved in economic activity, such figures are achievable. This points towards the incredible potential of economic clout if ALL people were incorporated properly into the economy. That level of economic power is what India had for thousands of years and is now on its way to reclaiming.

It’s disheartening because I’ve heard really horrifying stories of my great grandparents and how it affected my grandparents and eventually the lives that we’re living now has a lot to do with what happened to them. And although I know about all these things already and it doesn’t sound that depressing because we’re used to it, it still breaks my heart. I still try to look at the positive side of it that even if a few members of our family got killed during the colonial era, we were able to continue our generation. Indian brains are potent. They understood this. That's why, our ancient system of education was crushed down to be replaced by a mere clark manufacturing units called English medium schools . Churning out nothing but half dead graduates to-date, who know little beyond 'yes Sir; Boss is right' - especially so if the boss is a foreigner and a White.
It's time we wake up people, and claim our authenticity.

Jaby and Achara, Mr. Sashi Tharor could only express himself with limited words and limited expression.
Reality is more horrible than what he mentioned. Impact of which could be even seen today.
Perfect example is divide and rule policy which in some form even exists today.
I wish I could express more with word.
Moving ahead we have been facing challenges for our existence from thousands of years even today it do exists in some form. Hardly few people could speak loudly like Mr. Tharor because we the consequences.
Still we love all and know we need to move ahead and improve ourselves rather than fighting for past.
This is what actually real Indian values are we know to forgive and move ahead other perfect example is our beloved Empror Prithvi Raj Chahun what was his end result of forgiveness. We need to know and understand whom to forgive and whom to punish.

Shivay.. please read more on Indian and Hindu rituals and traditions, practices before English rule and afterwards. Sati system was bad but for a woman to lay on pyre was optional at the beginning. in Mahabharat, the Madhvi( I hope the name is correct) gave her life but Kunti did not. Later on, when Muslims ruled they used to take beaten Kingdom's women in Harem, so to protect the dignity they would choose to die. I'm not entirely sure on intentions of Englishmen too. The issue with women education can be linked with same reason as well. I think you are presenting the same point as English do and it's wrong for the same reason. The democracy was not given but taken from Britishers and similarly there were great thinkers such as Ram Mohan Roy and Jyotirao Phule who worked for women empowerment and you are giving sole credit to English. please try to think in this way.

@@jujutsukaisen2279 do people seriously believe England colonized India without spending any money? How do people think they funded everything? That $45 trillion was reinvested in ways people don’t realise. Indians were taxed, but so were britishers, as well as the entire empire, and the wealth was distributed throughout the empire.
Indians are not stupid. There is a reason that a small island could subjugate the nation; Britain had money, and lots of it. By 1700 it was the worlds number one for trading. To put that into perspective, it was still only the Kingdom of England at the time. Not even Great Britain. Just England and Wales. Considering the empire collapsed, either:
      - India ran out of money (impossible)
      - India wasn’t actually that rich
Yet the most ironic thing of all was actually…
      - Britain ran out of money
I mean, try running the worlds largest empire in history for 400 years with only $45 trillion. That’s literally only 1 year for the world. The USA makes more every couple years.

The Droid ko honor diamond was not looted by the British but gifted by one of the Indian Kings,

aditya gupta Gifted?? An occupying British force, an under-age 12 year old subject king of Patiala, a so called gift to a visiting British dignitary. Indeed the slave king was so happy to be a subject of the British that he gave up his prized possession.
Get it?? You are talking Farce.. First some one enters your house, then loots everything, renames your wife and children, takes what he wants then invites a fellow looters, and make you gift your prized possession. Indeed it was a gift. You were extremely happy to be looted and be a subject .
Please stop talking garbage. Whenever I see the Queen on TV, I see someone who not only stole food from people"s mouth but stole from little child to wear on her crown. Shameless....

I'm a guy from West Bengal ....you know where it all started.....I heard a story many times from my grandmother....that once the queen of England held a competition who could make the best masleen saree ....there were thousands of people who participated in that...they gifted the finest saree to the queen packing in a MATCH BOX... Can you even pack your handkerchief in a match box.....and if you don't know go search how big sarees are.....and you know what the queen did....she cut all those people's thumb ...so they could never make masleen again....and completely annihilated that art of masleen....now how do you compensate for THAT ?

Fan of CZcamsrs.. get your facts correct man.. india has been an empire since centuries. It became a full empire under Ashoka in 250 BC. The region was never called South Asia .. it was always Bharat or modern day India.

Love that you have your sensitive side and understand that what the other half of colonised world went through. There were some very deadly stories heard, one of them which I believe you should research is the Jallianwala Baug massacre.
