I think the difference in voices is mostly that they don’t have that grating edge each character had. Morty occasionally had those slight moments of almost cracking and screeching. Rick having an abrasive scratchiness at times. Now they seem like their voices are more moderated or filtered, like what you’d do for a cleaner sounding recording.
Literally my exact comment after episode 1. Rick is 80-85% on point but it's that last 15-20% where the magic happens. It was even more apparent with Mr. Poopy Butthole. Part of his deal has always been to tow right up to the grating line, especially on the 'Ooweees" and held syllables.
If they would've had these voice actors for season 2 I wouldn't know the difference, but the voices have become so iconic that I can notice subtle differences in them.
I honestly thought both were spot on for the first comparisons show , but you can REALLY hear that Rick doesn't sound the same when he's yelling or shouting. I don't get why they didn't go with MortySays and the other people Justin Roiland *himself* reviewed on that Vanity Fair interview.
The two people they hired are working actors, ie. people who know how to act. Voice impressionists can do really accurate reproductions but they don’t know how to improvise new situations. There was an interview with one of the producers about how during auditions they put actors through situations they would never expect the characters to be in to test their abilities. I think Rick Prime screaming indignantly through a mouth of blood and broken teeth wouldn’t be something a voice impressionist could get across effectively
The new ones are pretty good but its REALLY easy to tell that they are different. There's just something about the old ones that really define the characters.
For once, i have to disagree. I actually had to come here to hear the comparison and its so insanely spot on that its uncanny. I could only tell the difference when he was shouting alittle bit and even then its hardly noticeable.
old voices have a slightly "rough" undertone. not "raspy" or "horsey" but the voices had a bit of BRASS in their voice when speaking; and the new actor sounds like a pathetic weak manchild. if you don't know what "speaking with brass" sounds like I can't explain it to you
Yeah Ricks voice sounds pretty alright when he's just talking but he just can't reach the same highs that Roiland was able to, it'll be tough to get used to it

Rick's new VA sounds similar to Roiland when he's calm, but every clip here of him shouting or raising his voice at all, it's VERY noticable. And Morty sounds like a decent impressionist.
At least they tried to match the voices on this one solar opposites is clearly different. But it’s one thing to do a voice and then to also capture the mannerisms. And they missed it on that part. I feel there is a slight issue with the comparison. The old video segments run longer which familiarizes the listeners ear to the original voice, and then it cuts to the new voice for about half the time or less which makes the sound seem much more similar to the original than it might if played for similar sequences of time. Of course it's going to sound horrible when you put them both right next to each other and show them one right after the other, but in the context of watching a full episode I don't think it would be this bad
I think there are minute difference. I thought it was a part of the show because rick has alot of emotional pain. Hes also been seeking help for it. Just like Dr. Wong said hes changing slowly. When the show 1st started for whatever reasons he was slong but linked back up with his family. Behaviors from neing alone doesn't just change over night, it takes time. hopefully these are either early takes, kinda like how the mario movie put its worst foot forward with chris pratt's lines the promotional material to generate engagement, or whoever's doin the new voices is able to develop their versions a bit more as time goes on. one of the hard parts of filling these shoes is that for all intents and purposes it's just roiland's shoes with sharpie scribbled all over em, cuz his vocal range is mostly a spectrum of how annoying or nervous he could make his own voice sound, so anything most impressionists can pull off isn't gonna sound nearly as natural. but again, for all we know someone had the bright idea to generate free advertising by gettin a buncha nerds on the internet to talk about how the voices in the promos don't sound quite right lmao
@@RoastCDuckyou literally just said some shit that does not make any sense lol the voice actor is a completely different person of course it's not going to sound EXACTLY the same. Get a grip...
Dont yall love genz? Invalid opinions? Horribe taste in everything. They basicly removed the heart and soul from rick and morty and its not gonna be as funny either sense some were off script making things off the table funny.
It is really only truly noticeable side by side too. If you were watching it for the first time standalone you wouldnt even be able to tell its a new voice actor.
They just need to let their voices crackle and strain in that epic way Roiland could screech, even when he wasnt shouting. His best voice was Morty's shrill and cracking pre-pubescent whine. It really adds to Morty's insecure vibe. And somehow, Roiland turned that teen boy crack into an old man rasp. But that metric aside, they're really excellent covers.
Justin wasnt just the voice behind rick and morty he was also the co-creator of the series. I am betting the voices aren't going to be the only things off in the new season. I expect character personalities will also suffer
The dude showed up to work drunk 90% of the time and never actually did anything other than VA work after season 1. The writing will probably be the same.
Unpopular Opinion: Mortys New Voice is more noticeably off than Ricks New Voice. How does nobody else hear it though? Mortys New VA sounds less depressed and more energetic (higher Pitch on average during sentences) while Ricks New Voice just has minor differences in accentuation
I just binged the show without ever knowing anything about it really. I didnt notice the voice actor change but something felt different. Think i figured out what it was.
I don't think they're bad, but I do hope they don't try to solely copy Justin Dorkland and put their own flavor into the characters. I think I heard they had to re-record Justin's lines for this season so we will see next season how truly good they are because they'll be a lot more comfortable in the roles, and the people running the whole thing will have the new voices in mind when writing and animating which will also help.
I think in some scenes they still used Rick's old voice, they might have had enough voicelines recorded for the first episode, so in some cases where it sounds too similar it might as well have been the old voice actor.
They had almost the entire season recorded and animated which they scrapped and rerecorded, if you watch you see the mouth flapping is sometimes weird because they had to match them
I had thought the Morty voice on seasons 5-6 didn’t sound the same anymore so I didn’t mind the new guy , he sounds off every few words doing Rick but I’m fine with an impression than a whole now style of voice
"Wubba lubba dub dub M-Morty we've had to-to-to change our v- BURP-voices to AI because Roiland is a child abuser, Morty, h-he REALLY fucked up this time and God isn't real either" "aw jeez rick i cant believe we are voiced by ai now"

One big issue - when the new voice of Rick is projecting, especially on some of the slightly higher pitched speech, it’s too clean. It lacks the rasp and the bite. I find it surprisingly offputting, especially considering the amount of effort, the team put into finding good voice actors.
@@draw2death421 I believe so, I'd have to look into it but I believe those were false allegtions too. The REAL reason Roiland wasn't brought back was because he was "Hard to work with".
I bet if nobody knew the voice actors changed, they wouldn’t hear a difference. I wouldn’t either, I hear a slight difference here and there but not as much as everyone’s describing in the comments.
I'm sure there are subtle differences, but I binge watched through the last few episodes of season 6 that I somehow missed and straight into the new season without noticing the change, damn near seamless transition.
When I first heard the new VAs next to Justin’s it didnt sound too different. But literally didnt watch any R&M for a week and then listened to the new VAs again I noticed a huge difference.
Rick's voice is missing the sourness and gravel. He sounds spot on to the positive Rick we saw in that one episode where they split their personalities. But honestly, its close enough, and will hopefully improve as it goes on. Im just glad the show will hopefully still be decent in spite the Roiland shit. Morty sounds really off to be honest, which is surprising, I wouldve assumed his voice would be easier to imitate. Hopefully that improves.
No way, Morty is spot on. But Rick's new VA really needs to add a more gravelly sound to the voice, and perhaps throw in some unpredictable raspy cracks to the tone
Justin's Rick was perfect because they both shared a drinking problem and this was reflected in the voice and character. Too bad he's been banned even after charges were dropped.
No they were dropped. "The district attorney's office told NPR charges were dropped against Roiland "as a result of having insufficient evidence" to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt"@@tennisgazelle

I dont know a better way to describe but Justin Roilands Rick voice is a square but Ian Cardoni's is a circle. IDK why. The thing is I dont even mind the change as much as some people but still
I didint even know Justin was off the show until season 7 came out and as soon as I heard ricks voice I was like " ahh wtf happened to ricks voice it's so diff lol " if you love Rick and Morty as I do then you would notice instantly
Lets also consider: The longer he does the voice, the more practice he'll have. I believe as time goes, it will change and sound more dynamic much like how Homer Simpson now sounds nothing like he did on the Tracy Ulman show. Remember, it isn't just how he sounds, its how he says his dialogue and if the dialogue will continue being funny.
Rolland himself also evolved his Rick over six seasons. Cartman on South Park used to sound pretty raspy, and Lois and Chris from Family Guy used to sound a little lower.
@@trevortuominen8233The voice of cartman changed because it was killing the throat of Trey Parker. You should hear the voice of Marge Simpson this days, specially while trying to sing, it's just sad.
I think they did great job with the voice actors, very similar to Justin's voices for the characters, but Justin just had more life to the voices, but it was prob easier for him to do as he created the voices, whereas the new voice actors have to try to fill the role , knowing they have to try to sound as much alike as possible.. its not easy

I think the show is done for to be honest. A huge part of why it was successful was because the voice actors talent and humor. I feel like without roiled it leaves a huge hole in the show that is going to be hard to fill back in
I think you're right. The rhythm is just off. I think they know it too.
Agreed
Why did the voice actors quit anyways?
@@imabebebebe2496They shared the same voice actor (both rick & morty). He was fired after allegations of domestic violence.
@@killager6767 fired for an allegation. How loveley
Is it another situation where the same voice actor does both characters or is it two different voice actors replacing the old one?
The new voices sound like the definition of "yeah that'll do"
"That'll do, Donkey. That'll do."
they are good. honestly forgot the voices were going to be different people and didn't notice
When he's just talking like normal I have a hard time telling the difference, but when Rick's voice is raised, it's easy to tell it's not the same person.
Rick sounds calm compared to Justin it was because original voice of Rick was actually drunk in real life when acting these roles 😂
The new voice does’t sound too bad, but it’s really obvious when he yells
The first clip of new Rick's voice was actually real good! But then I just 💀
Wouldn't be surprised to learn that that was among the first scenes the new Rick VA recorded.
>But then I just skull emoji
Do frogecacas really
gotta be honest i barely noticed that the show had new VAs in s7 i found out abt js now n its crazy how accurate the new VAs sound
i mean some times it’s noticeable but sometimes it’s not, but i’ve seen some people on CZcams do a spot on impression so they shouldn’t have had any issues finding a replacement
If you're a fan of this tv show and have watched it since episode one you can tell the differences in the voices and I'm still gonna watch it
WHOS READY FOR ROCKS FAMOUS SPAGGETI
I got used to it. Also apparently the first half of the season was the new artists directly dubbing over Roiland to fit. Second half is mostly new. And imho it shows. Voices are better in second half. Hopefully another year to build the voices will allow them to create something good.
The morty sounds pretty identical, but man that rick voice is different. But all that matters is as long as he can deliver the characters the same
Thats because Justin was always drunk doing Rick's lines.
New guy is probably sober
Yeah sure the voice isn't exactly the same but what were people expecting, I think it sounds pretty great and I can live with it lmao I'm just glad they didn't choose a completely different voice
It's like Rick from season 1. 👍
What was i expecting? The original dubber maybe lol? Creator and personality of both the main characters.
Or the show to ble closed down, funny they chose the route that is both greedy and steers thowards the social justice crowd.
@@hentaimage95 Nah, the show must go on. I don't mind having new voice actors for the protagonists at all, the great thing about R&M has always been the writing and Roiland leaving changes nothing in this regard.

What makes this better is that his voice sounds like it would be in a kids should but this clearly isnt a kids show
Family guy hired Azzerz for the late voice actor for Cleveland, they should've done impressionists on solely the characters, idk why they had to hire previous actors, tons of ppl can do better yet still dont have an acting / VA career who would love one.
I kinda feel like the new Rick VA just doesn’t sound the same
Of course it's going to sound horrible when you put them both right next to each other and show them one right after the other, but in the context of watching a full episode I don't think it would be this bad
How does it sound horrible? Stop crying over a tiny difference
@@TheChosenAkuma mf they’re saying that people shouldn’t judge the new voices so harshly. They’re literally agreeing with you.
I really hope so
Thats probably the best you could get for a replacement, its certainly noticeable with the shouting or raised voice sections though
Ricks been opening himself up more too. So any change in tone was associated with his personal changes
hopefully these are either early takes, kinda like how the mario movie put its worst foot forward with chris pratt's lines the promotional material to generate engagement, or whoever's doin the new voices is able to develop their versions a bit more as time goes on. one of the hard parts of filling these shoes is that for all intents and purposes it's just roiland's shoes with sharpie scribbled all over em, cuz his vocal range is mostly a spectrum of how annoying or nervous he could make his own voice sound, so anything most impressionists can pull off isn't gonna sound nearly as natural. but again, for all we know someone had the bright idea to generate free advertising by gettin a buncha nerds on the internet to talk about how the voices in the promos don't sound quite right lmao
Real talk? This is way better than I expected. I'm not a super fan but the new voices are pretty solid and very close to the originals.
So a voice actor has to get the voice 100% spot on? You aren't asking for much then
As a Brazilian who might not even watch this in english, the voices are pretty good :)
@@Grimreaperedge you don't even know how old any of these people are lmao y'all just be sounding slow as fuck sometimes
That's not healthy for your voice
Justin wasnt just the voice behind rick and morty he was also the co-creator of the series. I am betting the voices aren't going to be the only things off in the new season. I expect character personalities will also suffer
The dude showed up to work drunk 90% of the time and never actually did anything other than VA work after season 1. The writing will probably be the same.
@@feshpince7181Not to mention, he recorded from his home after his involvement was reduced to VA work.
@@feshpince7181 I'm not saying he was a saint, but one of his characters _is_ a drunk, and he does method act.
Unpopular Opinion: Mortys New Voice is more noticeably off than Ricks New Voice. How does nobody else hear it though? Mortys New VA sounds less depressed and more energetic (higher Pitch on average during sentences) while Ricks New Voice just has minor differences in accentuation
It Bugs me that people call Mortys voice spot on but shit on ricks New voice when it's not even bad
True
I just binged the show without ever knowing anything about it really. I didnt notice the voice actor change but something felt different. Think i figured out what it was.
It sounds like a version of Rick that hasn’t smoked a cigarette in his life
Rick sounds like someone voice acting Rick almost perfectly
nah
I don't think they're bad, but I do hope they don't try to solely copy Justin Dorkland and put their own flavor into the characters. I think I heard they had to re-record Justin's lines for this season so we will see next season how truly good they are because they'll be a lot more comfortable in the roles, and the people running the whole thing will have the new voices in mind when writing and animating which will also help.
Its rick not justin
They're bad.
justin did nothing wrong
The show is dead without Justin.
@@JackLWalshJustin is guilty cope lil bro
I think in some scenes they still used Rick's old voice, they might have had enough voicelines recorded for the first episode, so in some cases where it sounds too similar it might as well have been the old voice actor.
They had almost the entire season recorded and animated which they scrapped and rerecorded, if you watch you see the mouth flapping is sometimes weird because they had to match them
I had thought the Morty voice on seasons 5-6 didn’t sound the same anymore so I didn’t mind the new guy , he sounds off every few words doing Rick but I’m fine with an impression than a whole now style of voice
Talented voice impressionists sound more like Rick than whoever this new guy is.
Doing an impression is easy, sounding like that while saying something completely new and with different inflections is an entirely different story.
I hope there's a weird plot reason for their voices sounding different like Solar Opposites did
"Wubba lubba dub dub M-Morty we've had to-to-to change our v- BURP-voices to AI because Roiland is a child abuser, Morty, h-he REALLY fucked up this time and God isn't real either"
"aw jeez rick i cant believe we are voiced by ai now"
That would make no sense since these voices sound 85% close to Justin. Would be no point

One big issue - when the new voice of Rick is projecting, especially on some of the slightly higher pitched speech, it’s too clean. It lacks the rasp and the bite. I find it surprisingly offputting, especially considering the amount of effort, the team put into finding good voice actors.
raspiness of Rick is gone in those high energy yelling moments moments and Morty doesn't have the same crack in his voice that he used to have.

I bet if nobody knew the voice actors changed, they wouldn’t hear a difference. I wouldn’t either, I hear a slight difference here and there but not as much as everyone’s describing in the comments.
I wouldn’t necessarily say you wouldn’t notice but it’s better in certain scenes for sure
I'm sure there are subtle differences, but I binge watched through the last few episodes of season 6 that I somehow missed and straight into the new season without noticing the change, damn near seamless transition.
Rick sounds like a middle aged rock singer. Used all his drive and rasp during his youth and now sounds cleaner and opaque but familiar
Rick needs to roughen up his voice and get further from the mic and he’s golden, morty is already good but maybe a little tiny bit more lower pitch?😅
Just wrap it up already. The show is a decade old at this point. I’m nearly 24 and I’ve been watching it since I was 13.
Blame the way shows are made these days. Lazy AF imo.

I like to see you try to do a better job then
They sound so good
This is surprisingly good. Not exact, but good enough
Rick and Morty is now Space Jam 😂
When Rick talks normal they sound the same it’s when he gets excited or yells that you can really hear the difference
Rick sounds like he's talking behind a double glazed window.
The new Rick sounds like he’s from an alternate reality where he never started drinking and Morty sound like he’s finally reaching puberty
You can tell the lines just arent the same. The amount of improv Justin does makes the characters personalities the way they are.
Justin's Rick was perfect because they both shared a drinking problem and this was reflected in the voice and character. Too bad he's been banned even after charges were dropped.
Charges were settled. Not dismissed. He’s not innocent. He just paid his way around the allegations.
No they were dropped. "The district attorney's office told NPR charges were dropped against Roiland "as a result of having insufficient evidence" to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt"@@tennisgazelle
sounds pretty good. i'm use to old anime and shows completely changing voices drasticly out of nowhere, so something that sounds pretty close is fine by me
you are of that generation who happily laps of garbage and asks for more so that would make sense.
@@wowthatbolivar4400 I have no idea what you are even trying to say
The new one sounds almost perfect except for when he is yelling or raising his voice
Morty's is good, he sounds older and more mature. But with Rick's it's missing that rasp he had for sure
In my opinion? It's the same lol
