  • Capcom has said the remake train is going full steam ahead for the forseeable future, but with most older mainline games either remade or skipped entirely, how many other stations does this train have to stop at?

Well I got to make an speculation agenda of what could be future re release games. Considering capcoms patterns on their announcement and their releases dates so I guess it could be more or less like this:
-Re code veronica remake (2024 - 2025): Following the line of re2 and re3 remake and maybe having some implementations to make the game more. Also I really hope the game doesnt get the treatment re3r recieved (wich I think it might be really likely).
-Re9 (2025-2026) : Likely being a third person game and probably having a coop to be a setup for a remake of re5 like hiw village was a bit a preparing of re4 remake
-Re1R (2026-2027) : Being like a definitive remake of re1 following the gameplay of re2r, and I hope it creates a more consistent and csnon scenario that both rebecca and barry escapes. And deppending in the year would be a good moment to celebrwte 30th year aniversary of resident evil. And might have the re0 as a dlc for this game
-Re5R (2027-2028): Atm being one of the most ambitious games in the franchise that will probably require the most time to polish the coop and level design since capcom wouldnt want to mess up with re5 because she knows that re5 is one of the most popular games in the franchise. So a re5 remake will take a long time to be well developed (and I hope it does). And depending on the release window of re5 completes 18 years and become a convenient year for a remake of re5.
-Re10/ ReX (2029 - 2030): Having the similar scope to the probably re9 and maybe being more ambitious and expanding more (maybe even getting to be a training wheel for a likely remake of re6 like how re9 would probably be a training wheel for re5 remake). This game can also be a revelations 3.
-Re0 remake (2030 -2031): Would be a smaller project but following the idea of the remake of re1 remake and maybe implementing coop (and training to polish it even more). Or could just be a dlc of re1r that makes sense
-Re6 remake (2031-2032): This would be like a more ambitious project than re5 remake was but with capcom really well trained and prepare to handle such ambition. And also if capcom would remake re5 it would be silly not to remake re6 as well since re6 is also one of the most popular games in the franchise. And this might be a good window to release since it would be a period of 18-20 years anniversary of re6.
Likely revelations 1 and 2 fet remakes to be ported in re engine and also....
A likely remake of re7 in 2035 since it would be a year that this game becomes 18 years old having a good excuse to remake this game.

    • @marsinvader9078
      @marsinvader9078 Před 5 měsíci +3

I also think re5 should have a long time to cook despite how much it would make sense according to current release order. Its legendary emphasis on coop action makes me want it to be a true leap in the series, even being on ps6 if necessary. Whereas a CV remake wouldnt have to look too much better than re2r to please fans of that playstyle imo.

Re1 Remake is the best game in the series you are correct. It's not "outdated". You know what's outdated? People claiming it's outdated because they can't fathom playing games in anyway besides with "modern controls". Which at this point aren't modern because they have been around for 25 years.
The RE1 Remake did become financially successful. Once it was remastered and freed it from GameCube exclusivity in 2014/2015. It's sold over 6 million units now. They should have ported it to PS2 like they did with RE4 and it would have made them money sooner.
The only reason I think there is a possibility of a Code Veronica remake is, they shut down the CV fan project.

    • @Shweelan
      @Shweelan  Před 5 měsíci

Them shutting down the CV fan project, by my understanding, was less because of them doing their own remake and instead because the developers of the CV remake monetised the project via Patreon, which is a violation of copyright laws. You can't get paid using someone else's IP without that IP's lawyers coming knocking, and that's what happened to that remake as far as I'm aware.
That being said, I'm not against a CV remake. I think it needs it more than 4, 5, and 6 do by a long shot and I'd gladly pick it up if they made it. I just don't think it's gonna happen based on how little Capcom has cared about CV since its release vs games like 4, 5, 6, 0, and RE1 remake.

As for Revelations, what you use currently for 4remake control wise...is literally revelations controls just refined.
I doubt they ever remake the revelation games due to how much of it's story that has been reused.
I think RE1 was skipped due to the Remake they made already made back in 2000's
Until 4Remake came out, Remake 1 set the bar for me when it came to game Remakes.
1Remake would be loved by fans, if it was given the 2remake treatment. As long as they didn't make Lisa Treavor like Mr.X.
Outbreak is an absolute blast to this day. File 1 and 2 should just be slapped together in a digital only pick up...
put some servers back up and let party chat be a thing. Old and new fans would love it.
If they make an outbreak file 3 with the remake engine, people would love it.
Now in defense of 6, it would benefit so much from the trimmings that the Remakes had gotten.
I deeply believe 6 has some of the best controls for the 3rd person action genre.
If you tighten up the story of 6 in both pacing and placement, I believe it would be loved as well.

1 (again), CV, 5. Those are the only potential candidates. I agree 0 and 6 won’t happen, 6 is a very misunderstood game though, people don’t know how to play to its strengths.
1 is likely at some point as the 2002 remake is too ancient compared to the recent ones.
But the reason you’re wrong in your arguments for why CV won’t happen is when they made the 2 remake they were not expecting to do more. The 3 remake is blatantly tacked on and clearly wasn’t planned alongside 2. So there was no incentive to begin the remakes from 1 at that stage. They didn’t "skip" 1.
As for CV, it’s extremely likely that 4 was prioritised because of its status. CV is more likely to happen now, not less, as the remake hype is at an all time high due to 4. And you think it makes sense to remake Outbreak? Plenty of people are asking for CV, more than Outbreak…
The argument about poor sales is illogical and uninformed (3 was a sequel to 2 on PS1, a massively successful console, yet barely sold more than CV which launched on Dreamcast during the console gen transition. Even RE4 didn’t sell well until it was on PS2.
They may well go straight to 5 next, as it is a juggernaut, but ruling out CV based on sales of the original is a flawed argument. My prediction is a small scale CV remake of similar length to 3 remake will happen before 5 (which is years off).

    • @Shweelan
      @Shweelan  Před 5 měsíci

A few things to respond to:
      1. They did skip over 1. If you want remakes of your franchise done to modernise the series and get new players invested in an experience because you believe the originals don't hold up, you start at the beginning. They didn't start at the beginning because Capcom has said for years that the RE1 remake is modern enough for the industry, and that's why they chose to start with 2. There was no 'incentive' to start with 1 because RE1 remake is playable and accessible on basically everything nowadays for 10 bucks. RE2 and 3 weren't, which is why they got selected.
      2. RE2, 3, and 4 remake were all planned years in advance and developed alongside each other. The RE4 remake started development in 2018, which was a year before the RE2 remake even released and got all the critical acclaim and success it did. The 2 remake wasn't a low-budget gamble that they springboarded off in surprise of its success, they knew 2, 3, and 4 were going to make boatloads of money, which is why they developed them. CV was never included in this plan because Capcom does not care about CV.
      3. 3 didn't 'barely sell more' than CV Veronica. RE3, on one PS1 release, sold a million units more than CV did across 2 separate ports of the game. RE3 sold 3.4 million units on PS1 and CV sold 2.5 across two separate consoles. When you're pulling in an extra third of what your follow up does in a single release when they fail to sell as much as you do across two, you're not 'barely doing better', you're absolutely smashing them. It also doesn't look good for CV when RE3 was a slapped-together cash grab made at the end of a console's lifespan vs CV being Capcom's brand new, next-gen RE game made to push technological boundaries, and it sold almost a million less than a game Capcom threw out onto the PS1 with barely a year's development time.
      4. Resident Evil 4 1.7 million units on the Gamecube, and then went on to sell 2.3 million units on the PS2. CV sold 1.1 million units on the Dreamcast, and 1.4 million on the PS2. It was the lowest-selling game in the series at that point, is the lowest selling mainline entry of the franchise to this day, and RE0/RE1 remake went on to sell over double what CV did on one Gamecube release. RE4 and CV aren't in a similar ballpark of 'failing to launch until their second attempt', RE4 outdid CV in sales on launch and then bodied it on the second go at market, and that's not even counting the extra ten-plus million sales the game got when Capcom kept rereleasing and remastering it vs leaving CV in the dirt outside of 1 2011 HD remaster for consoles.
      5. It's not ranking CV's sales on its original release. It's ranking it based on how Capcom has ignored CV for decades and doesn't make any attempt to sell it to the masses. RE4 is one of the most ported games of all time, 0 and RE1 remake got HD ports fourteen years after their initial release that released physically, and you can go out right now and buy RE1R, 0, 4, 5, and even 6 on physical disks as standalones or bundle deals like the 'origins pack' or the 'action pack'. Code Veronica got a PS3 remaster in 2011, and Capcom has slapped it up on storefronts with no promotion for every generation since. There are no physical copies of CVX HD anywhere in existence, they don't bundle CVX with any of the other games digitally on storefronts, CVX isn't even available on Steam in the modern day despite games like RE1 remake and 0's HD ports getting made for PC, which CVX HD never got.
Capcom historically does not care about CV, and every subsequent rerelease or remaster it got felt like a low-effort attempt to squeeze blood from a stone that barely had any in it to begin with, while they've spent the last 20 years willingly milking millions of dollars of profit from nearly every other game in the series goes to show that. I'm not basing my lack of belief in CV remake on anything other than sales numbers and Capcom's own history with how badly they've mistreated CV.
I've said before that I'm not opposed to a CV remake and wanted one long before we got an RE4 remake, but it's just that based on everything I've researched and seen about how Capcom treats CV and views it historically, I just don't see them ever touching that game with the remake wand, and I will be genuinely floored if we get a CV remake at any point. I'll be over the moon to get one and will play it on launch happily, but I just don't ever see it happening.

First, thanks for reading and for the in depth response, and I have a few things to say back:
      1. They didn’t skip 1, they made 1 already, that was the logic (the Silent Hill devs have something to say about starting at the beginning btw). But they have in fact already pondered openly about remaking it a second time in interviews, which throws out your point about it supposedly being modern enough (which they have not said). They will remake 1 again anyway eventually, but they did 2 'first' because at the time, they were not planning more, they are on record admitting to having no idea if the game would pay off…they did not have 3 let alone 4 happening in the background. With 2 they were simply responding to fan requests from 2002 to remake it like REmake. There are even concepts of it in fixed camera, why would these exist if 3 was planned alongside it? Obviously it wasn’t, that was thrown together in a year.
      2. I believe RE3 got the green light basically when 2 was released, and 4 shortly after when 2 was received so well. We can ultimately never know, but RE3 suggests it’s not a game that was planned alongside 2. It wasn’t the acclaim that spurred them to get started on 3 and 4 either but the sheer hype that 2 was creating, they knew 3 could ride the hype, and 4 was just a solid bet for obvious reasons.
      3. RE3 selling 3.4 on the PS1 is not very impressive for the PS1 or for the franchise. Do you realise how big that console was? And 3.4 million was already a huge drop off from what RE2 had sold. CV also sold 2.9 million, not 2.5, and in the market it released into, is more impressive. Not that these sales are remotely relevant for these older games and whether they are remade or not.
      4. I don’t know where you get your sales data, but neither RE1 remake or Zero sold anywhere near "over double" than CV did. RE4 was a totally different story as it didn’t just attract RE fans, that’s like saying RE5 bodying every game means something other than action games typically sell best. But we all knew that, didn’t we?
      5. You’re acting like CV is a modern enough game that can be easily released to the masses, when the fact is, it simply isn’t. It did get. 7th gen remaster, and got a release on PS4, but little can be done with it when it is barely out of the PS1 era, it’s dated af. Meanwhile, REmake and Zero still look phenomenal and hold up significantly more than CV. Have some perspective. There’s a reason Capcom don’t promote it, it’s too old and looks it. No remaster is helping that. RE4 is ported so much because it can be, it is technically advanced enough yet simultaneously not so much, that it is able to be ported to a lot of systems.
"Capcom historically does not care about CV" sorry but this is a baseless and unfounded claim. They bothered to recreate it in the Darkside Chronicles at the height of the Wii’s success in the wake of RE4, and they bothered to remaster it for PS3 which is about the best they could do with it. Your logic is akin to saying they didn’t care about RE2 or 3, until randomly in 2019 they did.
One final point I think is of more importance than people think, is numbers. CV not having one is definitely a black mark on it in terms of marketing strategies.
And all this is why I will not be floored at all if a remake is announced. I would be floored if they touched Outbreak however…

@@unr8ted77 Thank you for your own response. I'm sorry if my replies seem a bit short and to the point, but it's because I spent the last 45 minutes writing a proper comment that went into much greater detail, only to have CZcams close the comment reply when I clicked on my original comment to double check a point I'd made, meaning I lost that comment completely and have had to start over.
      1. Not to be disrespectful by repeating this, but the remakes of 2,3, and 4 were all developed together. You can read about it on their Wikipedia pages, developer interviews, and community discussions. It's a well-known and as proven as it can be fact about the games at this point. 3 wasn't rushed into development after an unsuspected success of 2, they started 2 in 2015, 3 in 2017, and 4 in 2018 and they were planned from the start. They skipped over CV and it was never included in this plan.
      2. My previous point basically says the same thing I'd respond to this with.
      3. I don't believe judging game sales by the console's userbase is a good argument. The Switch sold 140 million units and Tears of the Kingdom sold 20 million, which is barely 14% of the console's userbase, but nobody calls that a small amount or disappointing sales. I think instalments in franchises should be comparable, especially when its a survival horror franchise and those historically were a pretty niche corner of gaming that didn't do RPG or platformer numbers. I also think sales numbers for original releases are important to remake discussions because they're the pre-existing userbase. If you remake a game that sold 15 million units and a game that sold 3 million units, you will have 12 million extra eyes on the first remake because people played it before and are probably likely to play it again.
      4. I got my numbers from the VGchartz page for RE franchise sales.
      5. I do think it's 'modern enough' to be released to the masses. Outside of its aged 3D graphics, it still controls basically identically to 0 and RE1 remake, and they're still selling all 3 of them on modern hardware, just giving the other 2 way more attention and promotion. 0 and RE1 remake are constantly on the front page of steam with RE franchise and Capcom game sales, while CVXHD isn't even on steam and is seemingly never going to be. I also don't think graphics are important to most gamers when buying games. Square Enix still sells an HD version of FF7, a game that looks horrendous by today's standards, and people still bought it in droves because the game plays good, which is the real deciding factor.
      6. "They bothered to recreate it in the Darkside Chronicles". Yes, but they also massively rewrote and overhauled CV's characters and plotline to be vastly improved while the other games were given minor touch ups and lore additions to sand the messy bits down. This shows that even seven years after CV released, Capcom was already looking at it as a problem child that needed to be fixed, whereas all the others were left mostly alone. This approach to CV combined with the lack of promotion of its HD ports, lack of porting to any PC hardware since the HD rerelease, and the fact they concurrently developed RE2,3, and 4 together while willingly skipping over CV entirely is pretty strong evidence that Capcom doesn't particularly like or care about CV, because if they did, they'd have put more effort into trying preserve and maintain it rather than rewrite it and ignore it with every subsequent generation.
      7. I also believe you can 100% make the argument that Capcom didn't care about OG RE2 or 3 after the PS1 era. Both of those games are impossible to play on modern hardware without emulation, and your best bet is using a 20-30 year old console. Other PS1 trilogies like Spyro, Crash, and Tomb Raider got fully-fledged remasters and remakes to bring them onto modern systems with deserved facelifts, and even famous industry hacks like Konami at least slapped all of their MGS games up to a certain point onto a single disc for every platform in 2023 and sold it for 60 dollars, which despite being a ripoff, is still better treatment than what Capcom gave to OG RE2 and 3. The closest we've got to the PS1 games on modern hardware is the emulated port of the director's cut of RE1 on the PS5, with rereleases of OG 2 and 3 nowhere in sight, even after the massive success of the remakes of 2 and 3 and the fans having spent the last five years begging Capcom to release a RE Classic Collection containing the first 3 games.
      8. I also 100% agree with you that CV got unfairly ignored due to lacking a number. CV is, by all rights, the actual RE3 due to how much it continues the narrative of the franchise vs the actual RE3 being a mostly-forgettable side story that didn't really advance anything. The only reason Nemesis got the title of 3 instead of CV was because they'd signed a deal with Sony to have a mainline trilogy on the PS1, and they bolted it on to Nemesis during development, leaving CV out in the cold.
I've personally been asking for a CV remake for years now because I believe it desperately needs one the most out of all the remaining classic RE games, but personally do not believe it will get one due to Capcom's history with neglecting CV.

they dont need to remake 6. And they truly fumbled the assets of 3. So for remakes? lets start with Dino Crisis, re5, Code Veronica.
Then, because they fumbled nemesis and racoon city, I'd like to see them take certain things from 6 (like maybe ada, jake, chris) and put them in a game that is not the worst game ever (which 6 100% was, it was horrible on all levels, its unplayable trash). So make that a RE9 or RE10. Something with multiple choices, alternate routes (alternate endings), in depth crafting ala re3 og, an old school score, nemesis even? but make the map a character in its own right. and fuck NEST ditch that map.
I dont care about revelations sorry - and I never played outbreak. After ALLLLL of that I think then we should see an epic, highly detailed RE1 remake. That should put us like 12 years down the line right??
