  • Xbox has recently announced the closing of four entire development studios under their umbrella as an attempt to refocus and support their larger projects, when in reality their executives are eager to refocus and support the cash flow going into their wallets.

    You really have to wonder why the fuck these kinds of are companies in charge and command game dev teams when they do shit like this

      Usually its executives that work on the board of directors for 10 different companies that have absolutely no idea how or what goes into game development getting mad that they're not getting a ten million dollar cheque cut every time a company they own a stake in releases a game. Most developers and directors show up to work ready to grind their ass off to make the best game they feasibly can only to get screwed over by the studio because that game didn't meet insanely unrealistic sales targets.

    this is Dead Space 3 all over again.

      I'd say its even worse than Dead Space 3, personally. Visceral at least got to make games under EA's management that were given a chance to succeed or fail. Microsoft had owned this studios for less than six months, had them release 0 titles under their belt, and shuttered them anyway. That to me is an infinitely more horrifying concept and has me dreading the future of studios under Microsoft.

    At least the PSN for Helldivers 2 was fixed while there's no going back from shutting down studios in this case

    Sony is evil cus wanting pc players to spend 2 minutes making a free psn account evem tho they gave you one of the best games in years keep it up hopefully sony will reconsider putting games on pc

      Except that's not what the problem was at all. Here are the actual reasons people kicked off about Helldivers 2:
      -Playstation Network isn't available in 121 countries on the planet, meaning if you lived in any of them, the game would become unplayable even if you already owned it.
      -Playstation Network is notoriously unsafe and has had numerous enormous data breaches over the years where millions of people had their financial and personal information stolen that also lead to the service being down for almost entire months at a time.
      -There is literally 0 benefit to having PSN become mandatory in Helldivers 2 except for Sony trying to poach users from Steam to try and bolster up the ranks of PSN to make it look better for the shareholders.
      -Sony actively lied to the playerbase about PSN integration being optional and when then got caught editing the store on Steam to say it was mandatory.
      -Sony were warned directly by Arrowhead games about people not liking the PSN integration months in advance and ignored their warnings.
      -Arrowhead was directly opposed to the PSN integration and Sony ignored their wishes and forced them to do it anyway.
      -The community manager for Helldivers 2 that was encouraging people to voice their dislike of the PSN integration was fired from their position after doing so.
      Sony actively ignored the wishes of the developer of the game that became their super-huge hit and actively ignored the wishes of the fanbase that turned that game into a huge hit because they wanted to artificially jack up their PSN numbers to impress their shareholders. This happened in the exact same week that Sony was getting slammed for censoring Stellar Blade after release despite promising not to, while allowing games with more nudity and violence to get a pass for whatever reason.
      Sony is evil because they're greedy, hypocritical, backstabbing liars with their constant practices of censorship, playing favourites, and ignoring the wishes of the people that give them their products and the money for them in favour of playing to shareholders. That's not even getting into all the people they've laid off and all the studios they've shuttered despite Playstation making tens of billions of dollars in profits a year.

    I love the evil within games but lets face it, hardly anybody bought them. Why are they gonna pump millions into making these big budget AAA games and not keep their investors happy when they can make a skin for some live service trash and make more money?
    This is gaming now, it will come full circle at some point though but when that will be who knows.

      Same, Ghostwire also failed and Hi-Fi Rush was a Gamepass exclusive, it wasn't going to save the company.

      @@RexVergstrong but this isn't just tango, this is the case with most AAA games and their studios now.
      Look at just recently, the masterpiece that was the dead space remake and that only sold 2 million. Gaming now is season passes, skins, and live services and the target demographic now is teenagers with lots of LEDs around their bedroom, screaming into a headset.
      I got 2 teenage sons and all they have played for the last 5 years is R6, Fortnite and FIFA. The only time they want money for games is to buy a season pass or dlc for a character or something. It's either that or some weird online only PC game, with graphics from 3 decades ago that me and my mates would have laughed at back in the 90's but because all the kids are playing it, they gotta play it.
      That's gaming now and the big wigs with money in charge know it

      @@DKG-85 Yeah, I was just talking about Tango's specific case, though. I love and bought all of them on release but I know, hell I bought TEW1 twice, both on PS3 and PC. But even with all the newer bullshit companies are pulling Tango still failed on a basic level, not selling enough games.
      And it's also a game to game thing, too. Elden Ring and BG3 sold like crazy and both are single player games.

    • @DKG-85
      @DKG-85 Před 3 měsíci

      @@RexVergstrong shame because I believe that tango's games were definitely above average at the very least.
      You make a fair point about BG3 and the like selling well, let's hope that's a sign of things to come

    • @Shweelan
      @Shweelan  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The day after closing Tango, Matt Booty came out and said that they needed more smaller, lower-budget games that got them success and awards made by smaller studios. If we were in a situation where Microsoft only wanted the biggest and the best, this would be more understandable. But the fact they shuttered the studio that was doing exactly what they wanted them to and then came out not 24 hours later to say they needed more studios that did that proves we're living in Clownworld.

    There is no need to put Sony on a par with Microsoft, the link to PSN has been canceled and we can already say for sure that Arrowhead will please us with at least one more game, even the same Bend Studio and Media Molecule were given a second chance to make new IPs. And then Microsoft just killed off potentially good developers, just with shitty management and it’s not even their fault, some were forced to release a service that was crap and everyone knew in advance that it would be a failure, and others simply released the game without any PR. But is it the developers' fault? Probably closure is the best thing that could happen to them, instead of a meaningless existence under such a vile company as Microsoft

    • @Shweelan
      @Shweelan  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Being laid off from your job and having no idea how you're going to afford rent and food is not a better outcome than a 'meaningless existence under such a vile company as Microsoft'. I think if I were to poll all of the 10k+ people who've been fired from the industry this year alone and asked them if they'd rather make bad live service games for the next ten years or not be able to feed their families for the foreseeable future, I'm pretty secure in saying most of them would pick option 1.
