- Muhammad Syafie Ismail was charged on Thursday (Apr 25) over a fatal accident in Tampines that involved six vehicles. The 42-year-old was handed four charges, including one count of dangerous driving causing death.
The accident on Monday led to the deaths of 17-year-old Temasek Junior College student Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril and 57-year-old pest control company employee Norzihan Juwahib.

2 to 8 years for driver who drove straight into a traffic, killing 2 people, injuries to others, living nightmare to others, PTSD to others.

He's 42 yrs old and should have known the fatal consequences of his action. Why did he drive so recklessly cutting lanes and running red light when he knew there would be vehicles crossing the junction? Is he on medications, drugs, suicidal or drunk? The news didnt report about his reckless action. He deserves a longer sentence for causing 2 deaths and serious injuries to others.

The punishment for dangerous driving causing death is 2-8 years imprisonment? Even if he was charged the maximum sentencing of 8 years, he will be out approximately after 5 and a half years. I think this legislation should be changed, how would drivers be deterred from driving dangerously if the punishment are so light.
Then after his sentence he'll be off to Malaysia or Indonesia and drive like crazy again.

Between 2 - 8 years is a joke, there needs to be a precedence. Been driving on the road for 15 years and I can see many road users taking regulations as a joke. Harsher penalties will not affect safe road users.
It shouldn't be seen by people of singapore that if a person is wealthy, he or she could just get away easily for incidents like this.
It is understood that his anger or recklessness led to this incident. However, there was loss of life. If its his own life, then it's ok. But life that was lost had no connection with him, and they don't deserve to go off from this world like this because someone was angry!
So 2 to 8 yrs is a completely unacceptable punishment, and such lenient punishment will be hated by common people of singapore & will make them question the fairness of the law.
If there is someone with powers reading this, kindly consider changing the law by imposing more fair punishment for this person. So there won't be such an incident happen in the future just because someone got up from the wrong side of the bed or they are wealthy.

Already 42 years old, if he is in his 20s maybe he would spend 2-8 years repenting and contribute to society when he is released. 42 and driving so recklessly leading to the death of two innocent people, injuries to several others and inconvenience to many, should be given a longer jail term.

Based on the current law, maximum is 8 years, minimum is 2 years. Supposed he was sentenced to 5 years. Then you have 1/3rd remission rule, this means he will be out of prison in about 3 years.

This driver should be charged for MANSLAUGHTER (2 counts)...as his dangerous driving was deliberate and expected to be fatal. He was obviously trying to escape by beating the red light, after hitting the white car.
