    • @samdan87
      @samdan87 Před měsícem +14

      @@lep1792 He is facing quite a few years in jail.
      From news reports, he is likely to be charged with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. That would be s 64 of the Road Traffic Act, which carries a minimum jail term of 2 years, and can go up to 8 years. He may also face one or two grievous hurt charges, which is also under s 64 and carries a 1 to 5 year jail term.
      For context, the driver in the 2019 Lucky Plaza fatal crash got 2.5 years' jail for one count of causing death under s 64. In that case, even though he caused two deaths, the plea deal was that the driver pleaded guilty to one count, with the other taken into consideration for sentencing. The driver in that case got quite a lenient deal because the accident was caused by the driver inadvertently engaging the wrong pedal.
      The facts of the present case are much more aggravating, and the prosecution is unlikely to be nearly as lenient.

      Unfortunately the traffic law is quite lax on people like him. A fine and a short sentence and he is out racing again. It does not matter if his driving licence is suspended or not. No one really checks on it. I have not seen a traffic police on the road since Covid days.
      I have known of people who boasted that they still drive with suspended licences.

    Speeding fine is very cheap to many reckless drivers. If penalty like life imprisonment and caning is imposed for speeding, this fatal accident and many others would not have happened. So LTA, I've suggested even compulsory installation of speed limiters, like PMDs and heavy vehicles. Surely you agree that lives are more important than anything else? It's good if Singapore road become world's safest, just like we have the most expensive car ownership.

    This person (Merc AMG43) said he sped up to make the Saab (Black Car) slow down. He lied. He sped up to trap him behind another motorist. He simply cannot tolerate anyone speeding pass him and owning a AmG 43, he wanted to unleash the horsepower and fxxxk the black car over. The Saab avoided the front motorist and sideswiped the Merc. This person is also another to be prosecuted severely; not withstanding the fact, that when the Saab hit him, the driver looked at the rear view mirror and wondered what did he hit. By the time he looked straight again, it was too late. This Merc is guilty. If you looked at the video carefully, when the merc power up to force the Saab (black car) , this Saab driver noticed a motorist in front and he did swerved to avoid hitting this front motorist; despite driving at fast speed. The actual cause of the people’s death is this merc driver. It is common sense, to look in the mirror what did you hit. It is this distraction that took the Saab’s driver eyes off the road. Thus, this Merc driver attributed to this terrible accident. He deregistered his vehicle immediately the following day and other netizens have surfaced his other intimidating and arrogant road behaviors. If he had allowed the black Saab to overtake, he may have kept his eyes on the road and thus, this disaster may not incur the loss of lives. He lied without conscience and does not repent. Yet, he is trying to lie his way out when other moans for their family member’s death. Netizens should disclose who he is. Everything is under wrapped for the moment from the authorities pending investigation. I feel very sorry for the lost ones and their family and yet I am angry to see this Merc driver trying to get away and not be implicated for his vicious action. People died. How are their families going to live through this sudden loss. Yet, we have a liar who doesn’t own up for his actions and defending his innocent stance.

      You write a long story to defend the behaviour of the saab driver.
      One big question is why saab driver speed and tries to overtake mercs? Because of taunting and ego? Immature kids. You think you playing daytona?
      Even if mercs at fault for taunting, can u beat up that person and say u are not at fault.
      The main culprit is still saab driver for speeding and overtaking. No excuses

      Dont try to defend the saab driver for speeding.
      Saab is the main culprit.

      Agree with OP, and for those saying OP is defending Saab, yall OK or not? He's obviously not justifying Saab's crime for speeding. But also trying to tell others that that Benz also not an angel like he tried to defend himself on social media. Benz 100% contributed to this tragedy, both drivers was reckless and selfish in their own ways.

    Court will sentence him to 2 years, then potong to 1-1/2 years. Maybe 5 or 10 years disqualified from driving. But judging by the irresponsible behaviour of the driver he can just drive another car without license and probably kill someone again. Then same thing, court sentence maybe 3-5 years again and come out and recommit. That’s how stupid our laws are. Useless.
