Elves are androgynous and feminine looking in the Dungeon Meshi world, so yes the Mad Mage is male, and he's also absolutely tiny at 4'3

I like that message wasn’t Chilchuck is wrong and a coward and we should keep going, it was that he’s right that they can’t keep going like this but he shouldn’t lie and trick his friends who he cares deeply about and doesn’t want to see die. He was able to convince Laois with the truth.

To be fair on the gender confusion for the mage, even the official manga translations got it wrong. Everyone in the official volumes refers to the mage as 'she' for basically half the story then gets corrected, because Kui used neutral phrasing early and the translators guessed incorrectly. Manga readers thought he was a she until well past this point!

I don't truly know how were their dynamics when the group was complete, but in this journey, Chilchuck is like the father of the group. He is always worried for the things the most derrenged members (Laios, Senshi and eventually Marcille) overlook, and always trying to put some sense un their heads. It's funny, because he shares the view of Namari, but still he went to that hopeless adventure with Laios and Marcille, because he cared for them... as we see, more than he cared for himself, in facts

Something that I love, is that the lunatic magician is an allegory for the dungeon master of D&D! From the orc girl's description exactly, he "creates monsters, controls them at will, alters the terrain, and he can kill any creature by simply flipping through a book". That's all dungeon masters do, baby!

There are so many things I love about this anime, but the thing I love the most is it does not think we are dumb. They don't need to explicitly tell us the ghosts helped them because Falin was a friend of the ghosts, it was mentioned way back in the treasure bugs episode. They also do not need to make a remark on the orc going in circles on purpose so Chilchuk could process things in his mind and make the good choice.

Dungeon Meshi is back on the menu boys!

I like the conversation between Chilchuck and the ork girl cause you can also infer a very different cultural way of thinking. The ork comes from a warrior culture and values such as bravery, honor and loyalty to the tribe are everything to her. Chilchuck as a half ling comes from a people who are basically the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to phsyical attributes. They are small but don't have the dwarfs raw bulk of muscle to compensate and they lack the elves immense lifespan too, they essentially got the worst physical traits combat wise. When viewed from that lense Chilchucks calculating pessimism and underhanded thinking make perfect sense cause he comes from a culture where that is needed to survive.

falin went to bed in plain boxer shorts but woke up in marcille's fluffy bloomers. stay winning, yuri warriors

  • @cipher8523

chilchuck: the type of guy to rather pretend he's a selfish coward than admit he likes his friends😆 thankfully leed's here to talk some sense into him!

  • @TheZapan99

This episode is textbook "meeting the Dungeon Boss before you leveled-up enough."

  • @bthsr7113

They don't call him the Mad Mage for nothing! Also, he was a bit less deranged in territorial campaigns for the dub, only asserting that every shred of meat and spec of sand in the dungeon belonged to King Delgal. As opposed to claiming the entire planet.

  • @billlee3851

It was never brought up in the story, but the Orc sister's name is Leed. And she's a teenager in tall-man years xD

  • @FantasticMrFrog

I like how they subvert ecchi fanservice in this show.

  • @Rawrmuffin0

One detail missed by the ghosts this episode, in the sub they whisper in distorted Japanese “don’t worry” or fear

  • @normal6483

I'm so excited to have you back on Dungeon Meshi! I can't wait to see your reaction to gossip girl Kabru; he's my favorite character in the whole series, and he really starts shining in this cour.

  • @fraidnaught9067

Don't feel bad, the Mad Mage's gender was super ambiguous at this point in the story.
