The author makes you love Kabru with this scene to induce emotional whiplash, because in the previous one he basically implies he will not hesitate to assassinate Laios if he somehow manages to become lord of the dungeon. That makes him a walking Chekhov's Gun. Now as soon as he shows up, you know he can stab anybody in the vital organs after saying "hello friend" with a smile.

I definitely get it from Shuro's perspective. There's people in my social group that I can't stand being around in a 1 on 1 scenario but it's not because they're actively mean or anything, it's just a case of personalities that, at least on my end, don't mesh at all. I've never really found a point in outright telling a person this because...why? To make them feel bad? I don't like being around them but there's nothing actually wrong with the person so I just tolerate them and try to limit my interactions with them.

As someone with autism I can understand both Laios and Shuro. Laios can unfortunately overstep some boundaries, miss social cues, and be accidentally insensitive, especially since everyone calls Shuro shuro because Laios misheard his actual name. So fundamentally, for the majority of his relationship with Laios, Toshiro have to withstand his barrage of personal space invasion, and the only way to put an end to it is to use a method of communication Toshiro is not comfortable with.
I feel like people just refuse to ask the question: During the two years that they know each other, what exactly had Laios done to accommodate Toshiro in return? What thing that Laios hugele dislike had he done so that Toshiro can be more comfortable in his presence?

And you are missing the point that Laios cannot try to do something about which he isn’t aware of. Attempts can only occur after awareness.
It's not a question of making efforts. It's a question of which side is even able to notice something and whether they state the problem.

I will be fair to Kabru, he has a pretty good reason to be cautious/worried about what Laios could/would do if he was master of the dungeon.
He’s the most knowledgeable person about monsters that Kabru has probably ever met. Having someone who knows that much about monsters in charge of the gargantuan monster spawner and direct control over at least monsters like the red dragon would be incredibly dangerous if they wanted to be.
But after getting to know Laios better he thinks Laios probably wouldn’t do anything bad on purpose, but he can’t be sure of that so he’s going to keep an eye on the potential risk.

Shuro and Laios' squabble reflect the difficulties Japanese people have with Westerners.
We speak our mind and most of what we think is on the surface because it is valued as being honest and outspoken.
This is extremely grating for the very guarded Japanese, who prefer not to impose and are more cautious with their true feelings.
It's also why the author decided to make Kabru a sort of middle ground, both ethnically and psychologically, with his ability to hide his motives while still seeming friendly on the surface.

    • @elterrestresinmanos5078
      @elterrestresinmanos5078 Před 2 měsíci +5

That describes only a part of "Westerners". I know Latinamerica is often not considered as "Westeners", but since almost every Latinamerican country (willingly or not) alligned with USA, i will consider us "Westeners". Down here, while we value being honest, is also valued to be gentle while telling things. In fact, in my country we value courtesy over being honest (wich bring us a lot of troubles). Your statement is different from country to country.
In fact, in Germany, by all means a "Westerner" country, is also valued to say things honestly, but without falling into your own emotions. Same for most Norse countries. And to do that you must not just say things, just "speak your mind", but to think about it before saying anything.
Is funny, because in most countries USA citizens are framed as "scandalous" and "noisy" because many of them just speak their minds and most of what they think is on the surface... And that is not that normal for most of "Westerners" countries.

Bit silly but thank you honestly, for sticking up for Laios with the whole "I thought we were friends" thing, being autistic I've always blamed myself for any social interaction going wrong, because if anyone is going to fuck things up surely it's the damaged one right? But it's good to hear from someone, especially someone as social as you, that maybe if someone's efforts to communicate aren't working, regardless of who's at fault, they can change tactics rather than hold it against someone; after all, it's what we do to mask too.
Not to say autistic people shouldn't try to adjust to others, I think some degree of masking is simply polite, but again thank you for showing how to meet people half way!

Just to give a little side story back ground on Shuro, he's from nobility in a very Japanese fantasy land. In old Japan, houses lived and died by how people precieved them and they needed to live according to strict unwritten rules. So Shuro lived in a world and was raised to be hyper aware of social interactions. He literally has no context to how Laios understands things as kids like Laios would have either been exiled or hidden away from 'polite' society.
Not to excuse his behavior but just wanted to add some background to him. He also had a dad whole screwed around with his nanny, while his mother was right there in the house, behind closed doors so his household was always one slip up away from facing major scandal so he probably grew up trying to be super conforming to his societies rules as not to stand out or draw attention to himself so his own skills with dealing with people who are not Japanese nobility are very non-existant.
The only reason he was with the party was because his dad was bored and told his three sons that which ever one of them goes out and brings back the most interesting thing gets to succeed as the next head of the household.
Pretty sure Shuro will win with the story he's about to bring back.
Also, for all his talk about not picking up on hints, his ninja companion (the tall one in black clothes with no makeup) saw herself as Shuro's eventual bride and would hang around him teasing him as a bossy girlfriend. He never picked up on it because she was equally vague in her hints and is a big tsundere as well. So she was mind blown when Shuro came back talking about how ge wanted to marry Falin.

Shuro's biggest flaw as a person is assuming his love for Falin is absolute and the most important, and that he completely disregards the feelings of everyone else, because he's convinced himself he's the only one who cares about falin, leading to feel judgemental and self righteous when he starts acting pissy here. He could've been a true friend but instead he focuses ONLY on falin. He's also a bit of a coward as his first instinct is to just kill Falin rather than actually come up with a way to actually save her. (kinda deconstructing the mercy kill trope in a way)
also I'm just mad Shuro and Maizono just completely villify Marcile and assume she'll just use black magic willly nilly without hearing her out or considering her feelings at all (after all, surely SHE doesn't care about Falin, right?) and I wish someone told them off for acting that way, or at leastpunched the two of them.

I felt so frustrated with how marcille was so down and apologetic when just last time she said she had nothing to be ashamed of, I understand her change is because of what she saw now she's confused and not sure if what she did was right anymore but it's frustrating to see them be so judgy if her at least laios got to beat up shuro and call him out
I think I've grown too protective of laios and marcille i really want to punch shuro his servant and kaburu

Yeah. Falin was bones and so Marcille went to an extreme length to resurrect her. All those people still had their blood and flesh. So she had no reason to do that but they were acting like she was just looking for the excuse to use dark magic.
I can understand how it'd make them uneasy to think if they ever had to explain that Marcille, who used dark magic to resurrect someone, used regular magic to resurrect someone. That elves do not fuck around when it comes to that and so they want to steer well clear of any entanglements.
But how they act is just awful.

This whole episode is the episode is Lios confronting the consequence of his actions and the fact that he can't just do whatever he wants and not think about it. Toshiro was born in a culture that while not accommodating fit him better than the culture Laios was born in. He learned to mask it better than Laios but that's also because he is introverted and it works. Yeah it's fucked up that he blamed Laios after 2 years or so without telling him but due to his own neurodivergency and how he was taught by his culture, it clashed. It boiled over because he just had the worst day of his life after powering his way through the dungeon with little food and rest, and things erupt.
