There's a great addition to this part in the manga by the creator that shows off all the different variations and everyone's memory of each other. My favorite is Chilchuck thinking Laois is dangerous and insane
Chilchuks version of Laios is the tall and bearded one because he's shorter than him and stronger than him

Senshis is the shy young one because Senshi thinks of him and Chil as kids

The big one is Marcille because apparently Falin would say that he looks very similar to her and she was so shook by the differences when she first met him (taller, more masculine) since male and female elves are way more androgenous and look very similar to each other.

All yhe "Beautified" ones are from Chilchuk, maybe he believes he is ugly deep on the inside because the mewing Marcille, the Fancy Beard Senshi and Chad Laios are all the "beautified ones" but chilchuck doesn't have a "beautified one" because the others see him as he relatively is.
He and Laios both didnt notice that fake Senshi is *pretty* , Laios because he doesn't pay attention and Chulk because that's how he sees him.
Marcille on the other hand has known Laios for a while now and she sees him as a dork - that's the juxtaposition with Falin. Senshis Marcille is the one that spoke about hair and Laios is probably the one who has accepted eating monsters.

If you remember from all the way back in Episode 8 it was mentioned that Laios was really good at imitating dogs. This story ALWAYS circled back on previously mentioned plot points, the author is a genius.
Let the record show that not only was Laios right, but that the others didn't believe him despite _knowing_ he guessed right about _them._ Further, if they had all worked together to defeat the final fakes, they probably would have had an easier time of it than those one-on-one duels. Thank god Laios had that dog in him!
it shows they're not quite a team yet, nor are they willing to give laios his dues yet and rather hold onto the belief that their initial assessment of him was correct (and thus accept the fact they're kinda dicks XP)

I'd like to add a counterpoint: Every individual knew he got them right, but couldn't trust that he got the other 2 right. Also, each of the remaining clones were from someone other than Laios (below is my personal guesses for who) since they already eliminated Laios' for lack of physical detail.
Laios' picks were: Marcille A, Chilchuck B, Senshi B
From Chilchuck B's perspective, he might be relieved that Laios picked him correctly, but "cool" Senshi A is most likely Chilchuck's version of him, so Chilchuck would be convinced Senshi A was correct and Laios got Senshi wrong, which then calls into question if Laios also got Marcille wrong.
From Senshi B's perspective, he might be relieved that Laios picked him correctly, but "scary and goal oriented" Marcille B was probably Senshi's version of her - see above.
Same etc. etc. from Marcille A's perspective, but she probably made "cinnamon roll" Chilchuck.

I was thinking the one thing that didn't quite add up for my theory was Marcille B having an accurate spellbook, since neither Chilchuck nor Senshi would know enough about magic to mentally fill it in, but Laios had been studying recently. WIth that in mind, I'm guessing Ugly Marcille was probably Senshi's (doesn't seem to have a grasp on conventional beauty) and Bad Spellbook Marcille would be Chilchuck's (process of elimination)?
Those last two senshi's looked identical, I was struggling to tell them apart.

Since I already posted it on the other site, the manga actually revealed which illusion was made by which character, so here's the list:
-Tall Laios was made by Marcille. It's distorted by her original shock of seeing how different Laios looks from his sister, after Falin had told her that they look the same back in magic school.
-Dopey Laios was made by Chilchuck
-Feminine Laios was made by Senshi, due to how dwarves see humans
-Cold Marcille was created by Laios. Apparently his strongest memory of her appearance is how she looked while using dark magic to resurrect Falin
-Scribbled Notes Marcille was made by Chilchuck, due his inherent discomfort with and suspicion of magic
-Jojo Marcille was made by Senshi, due to dwarven stereotypes of elves
-Scarf Chilchuck was made by Laios
-Small Chilchuck was created by Marcille. She logically knows he's an adult, but still can't help to see him as younger than he is
-Babyface Chilchuck was made by Senshi, due to Senshi not knowing much about half-foots and treating Chilchuck like a small child
-Intact Helmet Senshi was created by Laios
-Stout Senshi was created by Marcille, who mostly remembers Senshi's small size and his build
-Handsome Senshi was created by Chilchuck. Apparently quite a number of half-foots see dwarves as the epitomy of manliness.
Honestly the most heartwarming/ fitting opinions here are how Senshi and Chilchuck view each other. Senshi thinks of Chil as a child who needs to be protected and Chil thinks of Senshi as the perfect male role model. These two view points mesh well together and it's honestly quite heartwarming.

@@ragg232 well, i believe it was mentioned that the longer a doppelganger sticks around, the more information they can absorb from the minds of those present, making it harder and harder to distinguish them over time.

To be fair that is how the term cool is used in Japanese, it’s more to refer to someone’s cool headed personalities or just being handsome

20:00 It really impresses me how well Laios's neurodivergence is coded. Like, yeah, that's exactly what my autistic ass would pick up from their behavior if dungeon monsters were my special interest...
Neurodivergent brains lock onto their own set of cues, since they're simply tuned to a different frequency. And just like we don't naturally pick up neurotypical cues, neurotypical brains don't naturally pick up our cues either. Thus, it takes a bit more effort than usual to learn to understand each other. It's fascinating how intricate and complex psychology can actually be, that there's so many more things people do subconsciously than what they can perceive about themselves and others, that other people may know you in ways you can't easily wrap your head around or even figure out that exist on your own, and viceversa, and yet you hear it and you go "yeah, that makes sense. I _would_ do that."
Laios was honestly a really good countermeasure to shapeshifters, comparable to half-foots being there for sirens.
When your brain works different, your illusion is going to have obvious flaws, but you'll be able to notice flaws that nobody else does for the same reason.
I love the game of trying to guess wich clone was the memorias of wich character. Some are pretty obvious, other more subtle. The most childish looking clones were Senshi s memories i suspect.
The Squidward looking Marcille was also Senshi's memory considering she's the only one older than him.

Everyone had a double who was very close but not quite, except for Laios. Nobody sees Laios as he really is, which is why they were all so easy to pick out.
This is by far my favorite episode. I almost died laughing seeing Laios releasing his inner furry XDDD
This isn't spoilers since it was this episode but it's a cool fakeout to have the one who grabbed Marcille's hand during the blizzard scene be the new character introduced at the end. This hint was done better inn the manga though cause it was black and white then but you can see the different colors now.
Yeah. Either Alicia remembered and didn't mention it, or completely forgot about the ninja that vanished from the other party. If you look at the hand that grabbed onto Mercile, it was wearing a black sleeve, indicating the ninja had been following them and grabbed on to keep from losing sight in the blizzard.

I love that Laios' talent of being really good at barking like a dog was foreshadowed by Falin back a few episodes ago.
Kabru would have been very useful to have in this situation AFTER the illusions showed up... but if he were with them when they appeared, the fakes from his memory might have been so accurate as to be nigh indistinguishable from the real one.
The others I can see it, but even with his people skills, I seriously doubt Kabru's Laios would be a match for the real one.

Ironically enough, for all that the party doubted Laios perception he was the only one that didn’t have any extreme prejudice: His Marcille was more grim and determined while his Chilchuck and Senshi had some clothing mistakes, but the others made a bunch of caricatures(notably Laios didn’t even need to argue his case because all his clones were ridiculous)
I’m pretty sure the magician was in the paintings either spending time there or bc they’re living paintings conjured from his design, he has an innate sense of what’s going on and who’s where inside the dungeon. So laios just has bad luck and met him when he was particularly having a rough time visiting bad memories or he always has eyes out looking for ‘intruders’ to catch in a way.
My theory is that at least the first maybe the second time we see the magician elf is really just the paintings memory. But the third time he comes to see who’s in the paintings. Idk 🤷♂️
Yeah, you can see that not only does he have different clothes the first two times, but the way their eyes look is also very unique in the second painting

Always interesting noticing the little differences in translation. On here it said "Are you alive. I mean are you sane?" and when i watched it the subtitles said "Are you okay? I mean in the head."

Same. Either I guess wrong picking my companions because I either prefer my versions or know them too well, or my companions don’t pick me.
The manga apparently included a side panel that explained which doppelgangers came from the memories of which party member and why:
-Dopey Laios: Chilchuck. He considers Laios dangerously unstable.
-W I D E Laios: Marcille. Falin had always told her that she and Laios looked similar, so after she met him properly, she was struck by how different they actually looked.
-Soft Laios: Senshi. He thinks Laios looks feminine by dwarf standards.
-Baby Chilchuck: Senshi. He still thinks Chilchuck is an actual child.
-Baby-face Chilchuck: Marcille. Unlike Senshi she knows that Chilchuck isn't literally a child, but can't help picturing him that way.
-Muffler Chilchuck: Laios. Good memory for faces, but fuzzy on the details like clothes and tools.
-Ugly Marcille: Senshi. He was told horror stories about elves as a child due to the elf/dwarf wars and Marcille was the first one he really spent much time with.
-Hair-down Marcille: Laios. It's how she looked when resurrecting Falin, and he has difficulty seeing her any other way ever since.
-Anime mom hair marcille: Chilchuck. He likes blondes, so focused too much on the hair, overemphasizing the braids.
-Handsome Squidward Senshi: Chilchuck. Dwarves are apparently considered very handsome in half-foot culture.
-Intact helmet Senshi: Laios. As before, he has a good memory for faces, but not so much for clothes and accessories.
I forget about the details of the third Senshi. Process of elimination says it's Marcille's memory, but I forget what was unique about him or what led her to see him that way.
The scarf thing is a terrible translation, barely anyone in the US even uses muffler and when they do its synonymous with scarf
I feel like it doesnt even matter since you can just see its not the same style as the others

I believe back during the living painting episode and the episode when the Magician appears that he recognized him from Delgal's birth to his coronation. So it wasn't a painting world, *I think Laio's straight up just time traveled. I also think Laios' presence at three different times over several years inadvertently feuled his paranoia ever since the old King died.
I haven't read through the story but my theory is that the Magician was so f**ked up by the trauma of the king dying that he tried to protect the kingdom by sinking it into the earth, filling it with monsters, and making the citizens (and possibly Delgal) "immortal" so that the Kingdom would be as safe as possible. There might be a scenario in which Delgal escaped and tried to warn people about him and either A) He said the Kingdom would be theirs if they defeated "the Mad Mage" because that would be the only way to stop him or B) The people who found delgal lied about his final words and wanted to steal the treasure inside.
Either way _its a f**ked set of circumstances that led to this situation..._ but also lead to the discovery of very delicious food!
As cool as the idea that Laios travelled through time is, that would make the paintings pretty OP, it would allow anyone, including the magician, to just alter the past. Also in an extra part in the manga Laios drew a stick figure of himself and it came to life, so now there's just a doodle of him as part of the painting

We already know that the king is dead. His death was the inciting incident of the anime. Remember at the beginning, when someone came out of the dungeon, said whoever conquered it would become the new king, and then turned to dust? We're already told he was the old king. You just forgot.

Aliciaxlife the ninja would be horrible to fight at the moment if she kills marcille there would be no way to revive her as she is the only one in the group who knows how to revive she would also be the only one who has long range attacks after killing marcille she can quickly run away and hide so that after they get tired looking for her she can attack again and run away and repeat the process until she wins she is a ninja she is very good at it

This is one of my favorite chapters in the manga, I laughed so hard through the whole thing.

So, from a pure D&D 5e perspective, Laios is low int, high wis.
High Wisdom:
He’s perceptive
Has survival skills
Can handle animals well and knows how they think
‘Cook’ is a feat that is associated with wisdom (or constitution, both fit him)
Low intelligence:
Bad at remembering stuff like details.
Doesn’t actually understand how magic works (even if they can use it)
Laios’ monster knowledge is flawed and generalized.
To sum, Laios has great survival smarts and instincts, but bad memory retention and isn’t book smart.

Funny thing is how Laios actually got it all right. Dude has severe ADHD, but he ain't even remotely stupid. If you pay attention, he always takes care to listen to any and all feedback someone gives him as long as it's clearly feedback without subtle cues like Shuro uses.
Also, while his memory of gear is lacking, in terms of proportions and appearance Laios's memories were very accurate.

Ok, I think I got it.
Because Half-foots have heightened senses, Chilchuck sees everyone in high definition. That's why there's an extra tall Laios, an extra sharp Marcill, and extra handsome Senshi.
Senshi sees Chilchuck and Laios like cute children, and even though he has a good picture of Marcill he wouldn't understand her magic book.
Similarly, Marcill doesn't understand Chilchuck's or Senshi's tools, and sees Laios as a monster eating freak. None of hers made it to the final round.
Laios' versions of Chilchuck and Senshi had obvious flaws, but he read Marcill's book when she was petrified, so his version of her made it to the end.

Laios's versions of Senshi and Chilchuck were already covered. His version of Marcille is strongly influenced by when she resurrected Falin - that's why she's willing to do anything to save Falin and has her hair down.
Marcille's Laios is the Gigachad, because she was struck by just how BEEG he was when they first met. She doesn't understand Senshi's tools, but her Chilchuck is a bit more accurate, just more innocent than the real one.
Chilchuck's Laios is a drooling idiot he has to manage, and he doesn't know what's in Marcille's spellbook. His Senshi is ruggedly handsome because half-foots see dwarves the same way tall-men see elves.
Senshi's Laios and Chilchuck are both child-like. His Marcille is a racist stereotype.
