Marcille doenst have the grimoire, it was just something in the dream to symbolize how she wishes she had the power to save everyone she loves
I haven't read the manga up to this point yet so this is all just theories, but it would seem to me that a tome on black/ancient/dark magic cares very little about whether it's found on a dream or in "real" life. Specially if it has the creepy third eye in it... Not to mention it seems to dwell on things as life and death, soul merging, and whatnot... I doubt Marcille will find herself physically holding the book, at least not right away, but she's been seeking for this book and it has found her. That's not going to stay as a pretty colourful dream for too long, I believe. I'm smelling some "Fullmetal alchemist" vibes here -heck, just some Fallin vibes, no need to quote another show...

Yeah and I kinda interpret it symbolizing somewhat her inexperience in which when she finally gets the actual book she prolly can’t understand its contents. The spells inside would prolly be too advanced (for the moment) that it’s as useful to her as a bludgeoning weapon than to actually cast spells from it 😅
@@docavar5698 that's a very interesting interpretation for the book as a weapon! I like how it talks to my suspicions on it (the book) "finding it's way into" Marcille, as if destined (because destined it would be in my opinion): Right now, she doesn't know what to do with it, it (the book and particularly ancient magic) is just the object to hold her belief in a magic solution to her fears. We all have such objects (we might think it's money for instance), and of course, they all dissappoint us, because they're programmed to do so. I imagine the same will happen with Black Magic here, a s it has been sort of foreshadowed by Chimera Falin... The consequences of using it would eventually (probably sooner rather than later) have to lead her to give up the use of ancient magic as a means to overpower outcomes, and have it be just another way to attend the idea of fear that leads to seeking more power in the first place. In other words, through playing with fire we learn to play quite mindfully...

They added the purple coloration to Laios' parents' colors this episode to make it clear that yes, they are from a well-off family. Laios not having contact with them is a voluntary thing.
If you rewatch the episode and focus on the paintings in the background you'll get a lot of contextual hints for Marcille's backstory later on in Season 2! Trigger added those, they weren't in the manga, as a treat.
It makes so much sense Laios and Falin come from a well-off family.

Laios and Falin’s dad is basically the leader of their village! Laios very much does not have a relationship with them, though Falin still writes to them from time to time. Laios ran away at a young age
He did that because he mistook Falin being sent to magic school as their parents casting Falin out.
“Ran” is a stretch. He left to make money so he can care for his sister after hearing the parents plan to send her off to some school and stay there forever.
But from falin story it was mostly ok. Parents were just cautious and laios jumped to conclusions but they kinda knew he cares fof falin and wants to help. The parents won’t force their son to come back but whenever he is ready fo meet again then hopefully they can properly talk things out.
Whenever someone says "lunatic magician" I always imagine some dude on stage in a sparkly shirt sawing people in half for real.

Laios is like country nobility, they're not super powerful but his family basically runs the village they're from. They'd be viewed as bumpkins by higher nobles
Falin is part dragon, the chicken-chimera appearance is merely the form she has taken on because of the lunatic magician, she wouldn't have looked like that on her own.
Falin and Izutsumi have very likely been turned into half-monsters in very different ways, which is why Izutsumi is presenting as half a cat both in looks and in her personality, and Falin was able to keep her body as it was, until the magician changed it for her, to make her less vulnerable.
The nightmare monster is actually rooted in an ancient Chinese imaginary monster "Shen" which looks like a clam (according to some Chinese myth). "Shen" is a monster that can cause illusions. It was believed that mirages were caused by Shen and even in modern Chinese we still term mirage as "a seaside city that was created by Shen". I'm happy that Kui really adopt such an eastern monster concept into this dungeon show.

Just saying, since Anime never really mentions age of the characters, but Izutsumi is 17 years old, while Senshi is 112 years old (his compatitive age to Izutsumi would be around late 30's or early 40's).

06:57 The chicken part of Falin's form doesn't have anything to do with the soul, but the magician making executive decisions with what was present/available. Mind, a (small) chunk of the dragon's body _had_ been blown up by Senshi lighting up too close to it, and it's possible the floor it was from (that the party is on now) getting that cold would have been really bad for a cold-blooded chimera. That's what Laios was meaning in ep 18, wondering if that was why she had feathers/whether or not it was a 'practical' change to her form, or random design choice by the mage.

The only reason I knew Izutsumi was a teen is because I got spoilers from the fandom. Idk if they make it clearer later on or not, but Senshi’s treatment of everyone as a kid does not make it easier to discern who actually is one. At this point, I assume everyone he calls a “young’un” is secretly pushing their forties.
The whole nightmare chapter might be my favorite part of Season 1.
sometimes a female character won't fall for any other character, they can just be friends - and Izutsumi in particular will not have a crush on anyone, plus she's just a teenager. it's kinda weird to assume the female characters will always fall for someone

While I agree that female characters can (and should) exist in stories without without falling for another character, I don't think it's weird to assume a major female character will fall for another character when it's common enough in stories (particularly within anime/manga) to have conditioned viewers to expect that it'll happen.

Maybe, or maybe not. Technically it's not really a curse like the hag she had on her neck. Either somehow separate both souls which as said in the story is nigh impossible. Or like they did with Falin, get rid off the monster parts.
We don't really know how the whole soul mixing works and how it affected Izutsumi's/the great cat's body over the years. The human side seems to be more dominant but most probably she isn't the girl she was before. Young Izutsumi we see looks pretty savage and way more like a beast so my guess would be she was in a state similair to Falin at first before learning more human manners and developing the idea that "her" and the cat are separate. Even Falin after they "turn" her back, still has feathers, sharp teeth and slit pupils like a lizard.
All and all, souls are probably inseparable once mixed, especially if it's for as long as Izutsumi, so in the end it's mostly a matter of keeping the human side more prominent.
