You might have forgotten it, but during the Marcille-at-the-academy flashback episode, we have a little snippet of mini-Fallin proudly saying that her brother imitates dogs very well
It's my favorite joke in the whole manga. You see that flashback and it's like, "oh, well that's not very impressive." And then it turns out to be VERY impressive!

The logic behind Laios' dog impression lies with shapeshifters being common in his homeland by multiplying sheep and eating the real ones, so hunting/shepherd dogs protect the flock by intimidating the shapeshifter away which is what Laios did here. And of course he can do a great dog impression as child Falin mentioned way back in a previous episode.
well, Laios literally explained it himself before he barks so the logic should be obvious, but i forgot about Falin saying he has good dog impression skill.
also, when they were putting together Falin's skeleton he said something about knowing canine's better than humans

Laios's imitation of a hunting dog was meant to trigger the fight or flight response in the shapeshifter, thus distracting them from upholding the illusions and revealing their location. It really hinged a lot on animal instincts overriding cunning hunting strategies, and it is such a perfect thing for Laios to attempt :D
Well, we did learn in episode 8 that Falin thought Laios did a great impression of a dog. Not only do the jokes come back but in this case they actually helped solve a problem the protagonists were facing. This story is so good.

ppl misunderstanding she's costume is ninja but actually its 黒子（kuroko). its traditional backstage person costume and originally shaped like cat ears. so most of jp viewers see her and just thought "oh there's kuroko girl".
The only reason I noticed this was bc of acnh. Wow thousands of hours finally were proven to be worth my while

That's interesting.
In one of the extra comics by the author Ryoko Kui, she explains that the elves and dwarves, being two of the most powerful long-lived races, have spheres of cultural influence which influence beauty standards (just like the real world!). Half-foot cultures tend to look to the dwarves for their beauty standards, while tall-man cultures mostly (but not all) tend to look to the elves. It's a nice bit of worldbuilding that Chillchuk thinks of Senshi as very handsome!

i like how because Dwarves are so rough and tough, they view tall-men as rather feminine, hence the sexy, feminine Laios shapeshifter.
Btw through a volume extra we see which doppleganger was made by who, and the mew-maxing Marcille was Senshi’s. I love how that implies that throughout the entire journey, both serious and funny, Marcille has always looked like that to Senshi.
I REALLY don't understand why they couldn't implement that into the episode, it genuinely made me feel closer to the characters and we could see how they think of each other
I recommend the Adventures Bible and Volume Extras for those who want to know more about the world.
Lol... I figured the weird Marcille was definitely Senshi as he doesn't like magic and kind of ignores what she says a lot! 😂🤣😂
One small thing I liked is that even though Laios's memories are pretty vague on the outfits for Chil/Senshi, the faces are spot on. That he's more accurate when it comes to Marcille makes sense too. They met Senshi recently, and Chilchuck keeps professional distance, but Marcille is his sister's best friend.

Since i didn't see anyone actually saying the whole thing and i'm bored, the author said which shapeshifter corresponded to each one of them so:
For Laios:
The giant one comes from Marcille, since she was told that Laios looked a lot like Falin, when she actually met him found him way more masculine
The feminine/falin look-like is from Senshi. Dwarvs think that Tall-Men are very feminine in comparation to them
The crazy one is from Chilchuk, he knows him pretty well but finds his monster admiration weird
For Marcille:
The mewing one is Senshi's. Dwarvs and Elf don't get along well and Marcille is the only one he has met so his mind is very influenced by the thing he heard of them
The one with the extra long hair and bad magic is from Chilchuk. He likes long blonde hair and has zero interest in magic
The one with her hair down and serious look is Laios's. How she looked when she performed black magic left a big impression on him
For Chilchuck:
The cute one is from Marcille, she knows he's an adult but it is still weird for her
The very cute one with bad gear is from Senshi, he knows next to nothing about Half-foots and thinks he's a kid
The one with a scarf is from Laios, overall a very accurate Chilchuck but he does not wear a scarf
For Senshi:
The one with a perfect helmet is Laios's, another very accurate depiction but he didn't notice that his helm was kinda broken
The beautifull one is from Chilchuck. Half-Foots view Dwarvs as very good looking
The other one with wrong cooking equipment is Marcille's, and he actually is shorter and stronger since that's what surprised her more about him

Some funfacts that you won't know unless you read the extra stuff the author did: handsome Senshi is Chilchuck's impression because dwarves are popular among halflings. Creepy Marcille is Senshi's because his race is scared of elves, stoic Marcille is Laios' memory from her resurrecting Falin because he's really impressed by her determination. Cute Chil is Senshi's because Senshi still thinks of him as a child. I love the show, but reading the manga really gives you the right amount of effort and thought has been put in by the author, she really cares for everything in the story, every single detail about those characters.

There's been at least one dog in every flashback to Laios' childhood, and in another flashback Falin told Marcille that Laios could do an amazing dog impression.
It was VERY set-up.
I haven’t read the manga but I did see the page that explained each fake and who’s thoughts they were based on. The last three were Chilchuck’s Senshi (apparently dwarves are often considered very masculine and handsome by half foots), Marcille’s Chilchuck (being an elf she sees him as a plucky youth) and Laios’s Marcille (her recent actions when trying to save Falin left the largest impact on him)
During the Marcille Falin flashback, Falin tells Marcille about how Laios' good point is that hes great at imitating dogs.
I love how you can tell that the version of Marcille with her hair down is from Laios memory, do to her book being almost just as detailed as the real one.
If you remember, after the flashback with Falin and Marcille in school, we see Falin mention that Laios does a REALLY good dog impression
Fun fact: in the other language translations, they don't call Senshi "cool", they call him "handsome", so both Laios and Chilchuck think Senshi is handsome lmao

the joke is that canonically senshi is the most handsome and good looking of the cast (it comes up a fair bit in fact), so calling him 'cool' loses the joke XP

Fun detail in this episode: Marcille and Senshi are wearing the frogskin shoes because normally they'd be wearing open shoes/sandals which aren't exactly useful in snow. 😊

also, about why the dragon was moving: we already know why. It wasn't due to animal shit, it was beign controlled by the lunatic mage to 'find delgal'. THe lunatic mage is making falin do it because he thinks she's JUST ACTUALLY THE RED DRAGON and he's so insane now he doesn't think "why is the red drgaon a young woman who can talk now". THis is also why it was moving aroudn mroe than usual and in turn why falin got digested earlier than she was suppsoed to.
For why Laios did the dog impression, I think he deduced the shapeshifter was a beast capable of illusions. He figured that it probably has a keen sense of smell and hearing and heavy fur due to the cold blizzard weather of the dungeon floor. And as mentioned by some in the comments, the barking triggered a response from the shapeshifter.
I get forgetting Laios' connections with dogs, a lot of the stuff that people remember it by is the extra volume content (like the talk about how they named the dogs), which just isnt getting animated. Its only been brought up... Twice? Three times? In a series like this ya sometimes forget details like that
Nobody ever believes Falin when she says nobody is better at imitating a dog than Laios.
The whole laios dog thing was mentioned at the episode where marcille remembers her magic school
worth mentioning that in both the original manga and the dub, and the other sub, that the party all calls senshi "handsome" and "good-looking" instead of just cool
The cool thing about Laios' monologue about dogs is that this fight was very much in line with canine hunting behaviours. Wolves and such stalk their prey to get as close as possible, stand by and intimidate it when spotted and attack when it starts to run and exposes weak points. Hence the best strategy being to stand your ground and outintimidate it, and the line "the first one to flinch loses". And knowing a lot about dogs, wolves and foxes makes sense for someone who grew up in a northern village with a lot of livestock

You correctly identified the Kitsune so I thought you would realize.
A kitsune, despite its ability to trick people with leaves-morphing, is a nine-tailed fox; and foxes are always hunted by hunter dogs and innately feel threatened by hunting dog barks. That's why Laios was ensuring he was imitating not just any dog but hounds.
In one of the early episodes, we saw a flashback wherein Fallin told Marcile that her brother had a really good dog impression.

i am absolutely loving this anime, and to think this was just a random watch for me to pass time at the beggining, all the genres i like into one series anime, fantasy, action, rpg and cooking if you call that a genre, lol.
Laios does one thing better than anyone. Monster lore. He knew what he was facing and how to deal with it.
Have you noticed that the last fake Marcille, was Marcille, except no longer careless. It is realy nice to find out later who actually sees her as someone incredible.
By in-world standards of the entire party, Senshi is, canonically, the most 'conventionally attractive' of the main party, lol.
20:20 It was set up in episode 8 i think in a flashback where falin was talking about laios with marcile about how he is good at imitating a Dog ,probably Carlson spoke over the scene and neither of u guys caught it.
for the dimming thing, maybe one the reason they undimmed it in the blueray is to make more people to buy the blueray?? it's possible if they're really trying to chase that profit. i remember JJK S2 Blueray sold a lot of copies, (10k+ iirc) maybe the undimming play some part on that numbers.

mogging Marcille is from the horror stories Senshi heard about elves as a child, bootleg book Marcille is because Chilchuck thinks her magic school approach to everything is bogus (but he remembered her hair pretty well because he likes blonde women), and the cold stoic Marcille is from how Laios saw her while she was performing the necromancy ritual to resurrect Falin
scarf Chilchuck was already said to be from Laios not remembering details about people's appearances, scruffy hair Chil is because Marcille thinks of him as a kid despite knowing he's a grown ass man, chubby-cheeked Chil is from Senshi because he also sees Chilchuck as a child but he looks even younger to Senshi cause he's a dwarf
intact helmet Senshi is Laios' obviously, the extra short dopey one is from Marcille's first meeting Senshi causing her to view him as a goofy dwarf cook, and handsome mewing Senshi is Chil's because half-foot men view dwarf men as really attractive and masculine
goofy Laios is because Chilchuck sees him as an idiot obsessed with eating monsters, airbrushed shoujo Laios is from Senshi because dwarves think of tall-man men as feminine, and the really tall Laios with a 5 o'clock shadow is Marcille's because when she first learned Falin had a brother she thought he'd look the same as her (especially because elves aren't very sexually dimorphic in this universe) and when she met him she was startled by how tall and rectangular and not at all Falin-shaped he was

1:10 2 versions kinda does exist mainly in the blu rays. note: specifically those bs 2-3 eps collector blu ray discs japan does.
if dont know basically to up merch sales before making a full season set they make limited ep volumes. only containing 2-3 eps usually, if usd charge like 50+ per one and it contains like behind scenes, art cards and such inside it that the full release doesnt have at all. if go sounds crazy oh it is, but warning there is actual hardcore collectors of these will verbally attack you and anyone else that questions this hobby. they are also the ones that despises anime streaming since that will actually affect those they collect.
1:45 again all merch sales. to be honest anime, hell including western animations dont make their money off views, ad revenue and sub counts. its the merchandise that dictates popularity and revenue of the series. only in japan this cranked to x10 on survival of a anime/manga. hence why japan got SO MUCH anime stuff advertising products even for general stuff for ppl that dont even watch anime over there. its like that with how costly/competetive anime industry is over in japan.

from the adventurers bible vol.1 on flamela, death of her brother when the queen took him in since they share the same skin color due to royal blood does the theory of the queen is possibly some form of vampire lord/lich to live past 500 years true?
if forgot or never read it: in her section from the book it goes into her origins. she had a twin brother which they both have the dark as night skin, red eyes and silver hair that only royal blood elves have like the queen. the queen got word of this and took the twin brother as her own child despite flamela and the brother parents are still alive. later the brother ended up dead with no reveal why. flamela demanded answers but was pushed away or they ignore her demands. in response flamela joined the guard and put herself in danger which the other guards make sure she lives by order of the queen due to flamela being possibly royal blood.
to back this up on poissble vampire lord/lich: final volume of the book after laios became king the elves sent a message on how to stop this but the queen said allowed it, they talked about the feast and the queen mentions something she tasted a long time ago which made the others confused on that casual response of hers. fans theorize either those two i metnion or she is a dungeon master like thistle alive all this time and controlling a hidden dungeon somewhere.
