I think a very good part of the popularity Trinity Blood had was just the aesthetics, specially on clothing and architecture, I still have a few mangas and light novels on my bookcase, and the clothing design, specially if you are into goth/lolita/dandy fashion is simply one of the best I have seen ever, and lets remember this kind of alternative type of clothing got really popular around the mid 2000s, when this anime premiered. An ex-GF did a cosplay of Sister Esther on her queen attire and is, to this day, one of the most beautiful and impressive cosplays i can think about.
Oh, it definitely fits into a subgenre of Anime Catholicism, it's actually the image used to feature on the page. There's also Chrono Crusade, Qwaser of Stigmata and Hellsing. Even more if you look in manga, like Testarotho (4 volumes, cancelled sadly)
@@ToHoldNothing oh "Anime catholiscism" its definitely an style that overlaps a lot with alternative clothing, even to this day you can see a lot of fetished "nun" cosplay versions of most popular Anime female characters. I think that for a lot of japanese creators it just looks like a cool mithology, samething as most people from christian backgrounds would look at greek or nordic religion
@@ValcristhCR Even Shinto, arguably, that and similar "Far East" mythos is a cool subgenre itself that I barely have much in my collection of: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon being the most blatant one
Sorry about all your family and personal issues. Never feel bad about delaying your work for personal stuff. That stuff is more important. I wish you the best, dude.
Exactly. You have to make sure your ok. Wishing you the best Sage.
Ditto
I watched this anime for the first time this year with my wife. We agreed that the concepts were cool but the execution was just awful. The "fight" scenes left a lot to be desired and the vagueness of the vampire origins were confusing instead of intriguing.
thats what happens when you mash a dozen books into a short series
Yeah my wife is curious about the books. The pace of the anime was so slow at times that we had more entrainment out of watching it at 1.25 playback speed.
The vampires are all the descends of mars colonist that got infected with a space virus.
@@attackofthecopyrightbots It's also a shame they turned the art into such a generic style, and changed a lot of stories and characters. I really love the manga, but the anime is so... sad
NANOMACHINES!!!
Since your Deathnote video I've lost my Cat, I lost one of aunts, my mom developed an extremely painful issue, I helped remodel the master bedroom, and I failed to graduate.
I get it. Sometimes life just hits you with a string of bad times.
It's plagiarism month on CZcams
Hey if it works it works
Sage's mother is very proud
apparently... between Sage and HBomberGuy it does seem that way.
@@dragon1130 And Todd in the Shadows
It’s plagiarism month everywhere!
I personally liked Trinity Blood but for the look, setting and concepts rather than the characters. In other words it has more style than substance but I really digged the style.
I also read a few volumes of the light novel and I'd say that the story was somewhat better in that it had a kind of clever plot twist in the second volume.
The only thing that annoys me with Trinity Blood is that other than the Meh one from the anime, there won't be an actual ending due to the authors death
We can’t seem to catch a break this year, can we?
All the same, I’m glad to see you back and hope things improve for you and your family in 2024
Been watching you since the early days. Growing up with your stuff has been great, and having seen you grow and change your style, it’s safe to say that I’m happy I stuck around. Take all the time you need, I’ll be here to see whatever you put out next, whenever you do.
P.S. I miss the Giant Robots list. It was a comfortable video to watch for me.
Totally agree about that list. It was a nice selection of awesome in an easily re-watched form.
Not alot of youtubers have what you have man. A ride or die fan base and just know everyone is here for you man.
All right!
Great to see you again, Bennett!
Also fantastic episode and hope the best for you next year!
(Also love that Berserk hoodie)
Agreed. Where can I get one of those bad boys?
Thank you so much. Wife got it for me after the month and change that I had.
@@BennettTheSage Any chance those are available online?
@@BennettTheSage can you do a review of the record of lodoss war ova
@BennettTheSage I enjoy your anime reviews and perspectives of the entertainment/anime industry.
I don't know if it's possible....can you review Robotech/Macross?
I look forward to seeing you tackle Trigun again. You've re-reviewed before, and there's no shame in taking a second look at something with a more mature eye. Sorry to hear about all the trouble you're having, and I genuinely hope things turn around for you. You've put out amazing content for years, and are CRIMINALLY underrated as a reviewer.
Is he going with the 90s or potentially looking at Stampede's first half?
@@ToHoldNothing Honestly, I'd like to see him compare both and then compare them to the source material. Y'know, what changed in the way the source material is translated to anime in the last few decades? Does this tell us something about how anime in general changed? Are there significant changes in perspective or narrative that each creative team put into their work? I haven't seen Stampede yet, but I'm curious what they did to make it it's own thing.
@@Moonhermit- The director would be a big part of it, if Shirobako taught me anything about the process behind the scenes
They didn't have Milly in the first season, but don't worry, she's coming, they just had a substitute to better develop Meryl, though I'm not sure if she was better developed in the manga, since this is kind of filling in gaps really, like the best kind of anime filler
@@ToHoldNothing And stuff like that is exactly what would make for an interesting comparison. I love the original, but from what I remember it's only a partial adaptation of the manga that deviates in some ways. Comparing two different director's takes of the source material could make for a fun video.
@@Moonhermit- Many times in the 90s and 2000s, they had enough for a season or 2 and sometimes moved so fast, they overtook the manga source material, Trigun one example of many, including the original FMA.
There are several he technically referenced that could serve in that respect: JJBA Stardust Crusaders' OVA versus the admittedly VERY extensive adaptation in the 2010s. Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate is another good choice. Lots of remakes in the 2010s and early 2020s. Shaman King and Dragon Quest Dai's Adventure are 2 very good ones, in my experience
While nowadays they're at least pacing it much better. Like Dr. Stone they waited a while and it's been over for a few years, yet we'll probably be getting more content for several years
I remember enjoying Trinity Blood just enough that deapite how derivative the anime felt that when the LN's started getting an official translation I started buying them, and just temember how much more interesting and complex a story they felt verses the anime. Been a long time since I had my copies to go back and revisit them though thanks to multiple moves, but definitely remember that bybthe end of what was available for the LNs Incould see why someone would want to adapt them, that it was Gonzo at the height of their content farm days is the worst part. Definitely feels like an IP that could've bemefited by a more passionate and considered team to eleveatw it just that little bit.
The anime really missed the mark. It's such a shame that this is the way so many people were introduced to the series, because the characters as presented to the novels (and more faithful manga) are head and shoulders above all of this. The changes they made really wreck the overall flow and mood of the series.
I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of the light novels, but they seem virtually impossible to find in my country - the best I could get was an offering on Amazon for what amounted to 500 USD and that was just volume 1!
@@EddyScbr They're available on the internet archive!
It's basically a Japanese WH40k setting, at the time when WH40k wasn't known at all. Maybe if you are older and more well-read you would have spotted the plagiarisms and similarities, but when I watched both Trigun and Trinity Blood basically back to back they looked pretty different to me
@KissatenYoba I dunno about not known at all, but it was definitely obscure nerd shit. I remember the comic shop I played Magic at as a preteen in the late 90s had a day where the Warhammer players would come in and do their thing. It was way too expensive and complicated for my broke ass though, so I only had a vague familiarity with it. Even magic was too pricey for me really tho. I had a friend with storage tubs full of cards so would help me build decks. Good tiiiiiimes.
Always saw Abel Nightroad as the missing link between Kenshin Himura, Vash the Stampede and Hellsings Alucard. He's goofy, lovable to children, loves the ladies, but has a darker side of his badassary. 😂
Visually he also looked a lot like the protagonists of Nightwalker and Eat Man, given that those are IPs from the mid to late 90s I would say they also might had been part of the inspiration / influence.
"The more eagle-eared of you will notice . . ."
That your ears are now bleeding.
No need to apologize. It sounds like you've been through a lot. I lost my Dad to Cancer earlier this year. This is the first Holiday Season without him. I don't want to be creative AT ALL. Grieving is pain.
Sorry for your lost, much love and respect!
I'm in a similar boat. Mom passed away on Christmas of last year due to heart issues. I cam sympathize extremely well. I get it. If he needs to take it slow and destress? Yeah. No, I understand.
Holy shit, Bennett. I've been a fan for years, and I've watched you go through some real shit at an astounding rate during that time. Legitimately, from the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry you're dealing with that. I've got a soft spot for both you and this show- it's picked me up so many times. Please look out for yourself and know that there's total strangers out there wishing you well.
I think that working on a Trigun video, and going through the series again would be a nice, fun project for you, and you deserve something nice after all you have been through.
Pick the project that will bring you some brightness as you work on it, even if you will have to delve into the dark on occasion.
The only thing I remembered from watching this series long ago was that the Pope was a 16 year old mewling twink. Having grown up catholic this notion was absurdly amusing to me.
Glad your back sage.
That was not the most absurd thing to me regarding the Church in this anime, I mean a similar thing actually happened in one of those dark eras, called the Saeculum obscurum, a Pope of 21 years who might or might not had been the bastard son of a previous Pope, it was that the two real figures of power in the Church were the older siblings of the teenage Pope and IIRC they both were cardinals even though one of them is a woman, the author either had no idea how some even very basic stuff of the catholic church works or if he was aware at least if should had added a brief in-universe reason to show why the Church in that universe / timeline is so different compared to the real one.
It's an otaku writer thing, having a kid in a position of leadership over adults. It's a common thing in amine / manga.
Focus on yourself Bennett, we'll be here whenever you feel up to it.
"Struggler, keep struggling."
I hope that things get better as they go on, like you have with your content, man. This was a great video, brought back some good memories of laughing about the show with friends, and the prospect of MORE Trigun stuff from you is always a huge draw. Thanks for keeping on, and I hope you have a good rest of the year - this one and next.
been watching you for the past few years man and i’m so sorry to hear about everything you’ve been going through. it’s never easy and you’re powering through so amazingly well i want to send you positive energy and love!! couldn’t be more happy to see you, when life hits, you just keep getting up stronger than before. thanks for sharing everything with us and here’s to more anime abandon, thanks for keeping it going!!! you’re an amazing person!!
All I remember about Trinity Blood is that it had a baller opening theme. Pretty big coincidence too as I yesterday started listening to it.
RIP Atsushi Sakurai
Listen to more of the band's (Buck-Tick) songs, you won't be disappointed.
They also made the opening of Nightwalker, it's a pretty good song too and it fits so well with the visuals of that opening.
@@doodlebugfour7070 cant believe he died, I had no idea. This opening is how I got introduced to him and BUCK TICK and been listening to this song since
my favourite band and the reason i started watching trinity blood, but tbh i don't feel like watching it to the end
Welcome back, Bennet! So great to see you. Happy Holiday to you!
Happy Holidays!
Sorry to hear about your family. Hope things get better from here on out.
I didnt make the connection with trigun as a kid. Trinity blood was in a later time slot so I think the fog of tiredness gave it a lot of slack. A vampires vampire was a cool enough premise for me to enjoy. I do remember loving the ending theme though. I own the bluray and studio gonzo left an impression on me as I see I own a couple of series from their library lol
I remember enjoying TB back in school days for 2 reasons:
1) I loved vampires and warhammer 40k and it had a bit of both
2) The DVD release in Russia was gorgeous - top notch dub and even tarot cards included with each volume.
Good to see you hanging in there man. Sorry you had such a rough patch.
Been subbed to you for years, your work still speaks for itself. Keep on keepin on.
Also so glad you pointed out that Equalibrium gun fight scene. I was hoping you were going to point it out!
Nothing but love to you, man. You've been through the ringer and I hope things get better!
There's certainly a lot of issues with Trinity Blood, but I gotta say...it's exactly what edgy teenage me was looking for back in 2006.
I really never made those connections until you brought it up lololol, total blindness on my part.
Now I really want a Trigun/Hellsing crossover. Alucard failed Interga she dies, the apocalypse happens, Alucard pouts in a coma for 10000 years or some such... which now sounds like Putting Alucard in the Vampire Hunter D universe lol
Good to see your situation is either getting better, or at least easier to bear. You have my sympathies for everything that's happened. If you need to take more time for yourself, we here will support you.
That said, I cannot wait for you to take another crack at Trigun. It's my absolute favorite anime and discussion of it always makes me excited.
welcome back my man!
Jesus dude sorry to hear about all the terrible shit that has happened I hope things at least turn around in some way.
Flipping awesome video as always man! My condolences to you and your losses. I have been there and I know it's not easy. Take care of yourself we all care about you too bro.
Good to see you back! I hope things are better!
I loved the manga as a kid and hated the anime, well before I actually found Trigun or Hellsing, because the anime felt stale and plain compared to the lush artwork of the manga.
I think the manga will stay a little precious to me between nostalgia and the beautiful art, but I sure feel justified in not liking the anime. (And the lack of official translation for volumes 13-21 makes a little more sense now.)
Best wishes to you and your family, and good luck with your luggage!!
Many condolences for the tragedies you've had to suffer through these past few months, but also, glad to see you back in action!
Its been a difficult time of year. I'm sorry to hear about your family members and the technical difficulties. For what its worth the just below the surface anger made this episode feel nostalgic of your early work. I very much enjoyed it.thank you and hang in there sage.
Sounds like a horrible few months mate. Hopefully things get better soon. Looking forward to some more awesome Anime Abandon in the new year!
Great video. Hope things get better
Great review Sage! I really do hope things get better for you and quick! Hang in there and happy holidays!
damm sage, you had it rough lately, thanks for the hard work!
Sorry to hear about how things have been going. Good to see you back. Hope everything gets better. Also love the berserk hoody!
Just happy to be here for you Sage. Been a fan of your work even before your Anime Abandon series, and I mean your game reviews (from Blistered Thumbs. Yes. I remember those days). I just know your videos now are well worth watching after just watching your work for over a decade. (Holy moly, over a decade?)
Loved the video! Hope things work out for you with your personal issues and that airline gets what they deserve. Looking forward to the next video and when you retouch Trigun again. Take care!
Welcome back, Sage!
I'm so sorry about what you're going through. I hope everything turns out well, especially for your family. Sending virtual hugs!
Dang man, sorry hear you going through that storm dude😢 you got my prayers for ya man. Maybe digging into TB might be good Catharsis, maybe not. Either way welcome back!
Hope everything goes well Sage. I'm sure it'll all get sorted out. Another great video
Really glad you are still here, Bennett. Missed your videos and your voice, I'm sorry you went through a lot, but it's good that you are still here.
It's nice to see you again, and I hope you have a great new year.
Sorry to hear everything happening Sage. Thanks for the video!
Good to see you again, Bennet!
I'm really glad you are bac, Sage. I am sorry for your losses this year and all the difficulties that are plaguing you. Always take time for yourself and your mental health, and may the new year be kind.
As for the review, this is well done as always but ouch my childhood. This is the second series I absolutely adored(and still like a little) that you've torn to shreds[the first being Wolf's Rain]. I was always upset by the non-ending of the show but rewatched and eventually bought to keep. But, with all you pointed out and the memories i have of the last time I i watched Trinity Blood...yeah, it is derivative and trite. Nostalgia is strong with this one, but it is def not a strong standing series without the fanfiction i have read in the past. Thank you again for another great Review!!!
Sorry to hear how things have been. Hoping for an upswing. As always thanks for the video.
We all know putting this episode out has been a nightmare behind the scenes. Thank you for your dedication and I think I speak for all of us when we offer our condolences to your loss.
Just engagin’ with the content here, Barnes.
Glad tou back Bennett. WOOOO Trigun re-review!
Hey bennett first off, I'm really sorry to hear about your last few months. I hope you get your luggage back pretty soon and.
That these next few months are a little easier for you. Sending you positive Energies dude!!
Second of all Loving the review!!!
WELCOME BACK, BENNETT!! We missed you and hope you're doing well!! ❤❤❤
Glad to see your face again, man. I pray you find peace in this difficult time. 🙏
I can not imagine all the hell you've been thru Sage, but I am glad to see ya back.
AYEEEEE WELCOME BACK GANG!!!
Damn dude, props to you for making it through all that. If you wanna do a buy-Bennett-a-new-computer fundraiser I'm sure tons of us would chip in. Hope the luggage gets returned soon and that you and all your family are doing alright given the circumstances. Adversity doesn't make us stronger, but enduring it does take strength, so take heart in that
Thank you for another awesome vid Bennet. I hope the holidays go well for you and that you recover your lost luggage. Much love man :D
It's been a very, very hard year. Appreciate all this, Bennett. Would love another Trigun video one day.
Until then, happy holidays, and wishing you the best. ty for a video on the first anime series I ever bought from a convention... And now can understand why I found it so rough to sit through.
Would be cool if he did Stampede after the second season comes out then compared and contrasted with the other versions
Ah, Sage. Good to see you back. Oh, and that Berserk hoodie is awesome. I want one.
Really sorry to hear what a rough time you've had, I hope things improve for you soon! I remember trying to watch Trinity Blood and being extremely bored, so I never continued.
HE’S BACK!!
Wishing you all the best man.
Trinity Blood the anime isn't a good adaptation and suffers from cramming two timelines into one, but it's a stretch to say it's plagiarism. The novels are political stories set in two different timelines with two different main characters. (The early timeline focuses on Abel, the later one has Esther as the focus.) Sure you can say it's derivative if you boil down the themes to such a basic state, but that isn't a just assessment. I am not saying the anime is good, but the story is definitely unique and of it's own. The novels are very different, and trying to say the author just ripped of Trigun and Hellsing is just insulting. The anime is a mess, and there's a lot you can criticize it for, but the novels and manga are quite good in world building and political intrigue.
Oh look, somebody that understands what the word "plagiarize" actually means.
There's commonality and then there's ripping off, which seems a bit too easy an accusation when we're naturally pattern seeking and especially when it comes to things we regard as better or more original. I didn't finish the original Trigun, though in hindsight, I cam understand how those who saw Trigun first and then Trinity Blood, would see those parallels. Ripped out of context and consideration, one can say they ripped it off while...really, it's similar visuals and patterns, that's kind of how storytelling works historically
Heck, even I was aware of the whole situation with Knives and Vash from the relevant Trigun 1996 episode, but that didn't make me think it was ripping it off anymore than the parallels one can draw to, say, Yu Yu Hakusho means Bleach was ripping it off.
First off, sorry to hear of your recent woes, and hope things pick up. Secondly, more Trigun please! And finally, Merry Christmas.
Thank you, a million thank you's for this video. You hit every single reason I clawed my eye sockets during this show till the very...VERRRRYYY overdue end.
I keep asking myself why I ever watched the series.
Your channel is the only connection I have left to anime. I'm always happy when I see your videos. I hope things move positively for you from now on, buddy.
Sorry to hear about this bro. I hope things get better. My condolences to your family.
I'm really sorry to hear you've been struggling so much man I hope things take a turn for the better I'm so sorry for your loss I hope you and your family are doing all right take the time you need to heal
It's always good to see a new Anime Abandon video, Bennett. I hope you don't have to endure anymore of the bullshit you've been through lately.
Welcome back, Sage. I'm glad you got your computer fixed
Nice to see you back dude, hope things get better.
You know, i really like to see you doing an especial about the complete Blood Saga, i mean there are great things and tons of crap on all the related series about the blood concept, that be interesting
I'm glad you remember this stuff, and thank you for sharing.
Great review. Hang in there. We have been with you for an over decade, and so are more than happy to wait.
Happy Holiday and I wish you the best.
Interesting video.
Sorry to hear you've had so much chaos going on.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family during these troublesome times, added to the fact of the airline and computer problems, it is understandable you need a break. be well, Sage.
This is a show that I blanked on really hard I barely remember it and yet the second your thumbnail popped on my feed I got hit with the waves of nostalgia so thank you for that also no thank you for that because now I remember how bad it was
Glad you're back, Bennet! Hope things get better for ya! Take time off if you need it!
good to see you again,
despite how hard life is going, this a real treat for Us!
I am sorry to hear about the cavalcade of events. I know it can be hard when it seems like the universe is pouring down, but I wish you the best in climbing back up the ladder. You got this.
That being said, I had bought the series from a store never having heard of the series. I started watching the series and the beginning had me a little intrigued.....and then it just got more and more depressing. By the second to last episode, I was beating my head against a wall, and never finished the last episode. One of the worst 20 dollar purchases I have ever made lol
Thanks man
Welcome Home Sage, We're here for you 💙
Happy Holidays Sage.
I keep looking at Trigun Stampede, but maybe I'll wait for you to cover it. Vash with a .22 instead of a .45 bugged me at first, but it kinda just makes him more badass, and I like that attention to detail but I fear it may be too different. I hope things start turning around for you in the new year, and thank you for all the work you do for us all. Remember, this world is made of love and peace!
I'd love you to do a review of Trigun!
So sorry for your loss Bennet. I hope you and your family have a peaceful Christmas. You deserve it.
I'm very sorry for your hardship and loss. I hope things get better for you.
May you have a wonderful christmas Sage.
Real sorry for all the bad luck and tragedy you mentioned at the start. Hope things better man.
As for the review…the second you said Gonzo made it, I was like ‘oh, of course it was them!’
Killer video sage 🤘🏽😎
That's a lot to go through Sage. I'll be praying for you and your family.
This is one of those things that unfortunately can and does happen to everyone eventually. Every man who grows old will eventually have to watch loved ones grow frail and eventually die. My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years back and recently it’s gotten so bad that he had to be committed to a home. When he does it’ll be as if I’ve lost him twice. That said, I want you to know that there are people out here that care about your health, mental and physical. There will always be somewhere here to listen.
I’m not even what I’d call a fan of yours really. I was at one point but our tastes in anime often differ too greatly for me to really stay invested. That said, what I have been rather invested in is your personal journey. I’ve watched your videos since the early days and it’s really been an inspiration to watch you lose all that weight especially when there are just so many examples of celebrities online who struggle with just that. I think it shows a great amount of character and an even larger amount of willpower. I really respect that about you.
I don’t know if I’ll watch the whole review. Honestly, I tend to pop in and watch for updates. Things will get better though, they always do. There have been times in my life where I thought I had hit rock bottom only for the bottom to fall out, but almost every time things just seem to have a way of working themselves out for the better if you just try to stay positive. I know that sounds cliche but it’s true. A good attitude can make a world of difference. Unfortunately all I can do is root for you from the sidelines, an ultimately empty gesture considering I’m just a stranger on the internet. I guess I just wanted to show a bit of support.
Airlines losing your luggage is common. Sometimes they'll even lie to you about where it is. One lawyer I watch on CZcams got them to pay for his whole family to buy new clothes for their vacation abroad.
