Modern? There’s no modern or traditional way, bud. Knuckle balls has been used a lot of times in the past in the early days of football when they used bladder as the match ball. The type of free kick technique to use all depends on the flight path you want the ball to go to.

The more times barca did that, the more the opposition got frustrated and started narrowing towards the player in possession. They just could not get the ball and when they got aggressive they left pockets of space which would get exploited. Its extremely intelligent strategy which only the most technical players with mental fortitude and patience can succeed in.

When teams used to sit deep, Pique would get forward for crosses or to outnumber their defence. When teams play passive the maximum they would get from a match is a draw. If teams want to beat that barca team, they had to try and win the ball back. Only extremely disciplined and organised counter attacking teams could beat barca, anyone else would get shred open. Nowadays they don’t play that same style of football. It’s a different sect of the philosophy being used, not Guardiola’s philosophy.

Beckham is one of those players who can be overrated but then underrated at sametime.His not as good as alot of the greats but he was a great player.Never expected much from him but at milan his passing,shooting,speed at his age,vision, ability and understanding was very good.He looked a force in midfield next to pirlo and seedorf...I always imagined how good milan would of been if he came 3 4 years earlier...I'd certainly take him over gattuso.

Nobody can replace beckham's RM. I mean nobody. A lot of the greats your talking about can be replaced in a top 11 team. Beckham will always be in everyone's top 11.
