Beckham is probably the greatest free-kick specialist of all time. I remember when Beckham played for Real, any time there was a free kick anywhere within 20-25 feet of the penalty box - it was considered to be almost like a penalty. He was just that good.

@@x_baha_x787 the one that played for Lyon? He was a great at free-kicks as well, but he had a very different style. The kind of a style that cannot be maintained in later years. Those shots could only be performed at the peak ones physical prowess. Beckham's free-kicks though were always absolutely perfect. The ball didn't change directions mid flight. Just a perfect shot at the corner with just enough power. Beckham had mastered the normal way of taking free-kicks better than anyone out there. He was and still is the absolute master of it.

David Beckham really surprised me when he joined Real Madrid..I was one of those who think he was overrated and just a marketing stunt for Real Madrid, but boy oh boy, did he prove me wrong. He was played out of his position but still did a great job in the midfield of RM at that time. Fit in like a glove with the rest of galacticos.

He's our defensive engine and i feel really bad when Perez sold him and Hierro off and sack del Bosque (because Hierro and Del Bosque support Makelele staying in the team). After Makelele is gone, that is the moment when The Galacticos slowly loses steam. I still remember Zidane saying to the media after Perez sold Makelele to Chelsea: "Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine like Makelele?".
His professionalism and presence in his last season were admirable
I remember well capello froze him out but he came back solid and was a reliable assist and goal provider in the title run in

He was still capped when his international performance was in decline for more than a couple of years on the lead up (coinciding with the wind down of his time in La Liga). As if the whole of England wanted him on for the last repeat spark, blaze of glory before the bow out... By 2009, even some of the English were asking: 'is the celebrity status keeping him in the National squad'. The cynical were thinking he was there to attract more lucrative sponsorship... Nowt to do with underrating him, just that the reality, that his best playing days have passed, started to dawn. He is still a legend in Football regardless.

But bcos Beck's lacked in other departments they had to let him take freekicks more often so that he could score. I rate Beckham as a player but I felt his arrival was the beginning of the end for Madrid Galacticos dynasty.

That last minute goal against Greece, and so many other world class performances. Could play as a winger or as a CM. Beckham was overlooked because of his looks.
