According to NBC News, while filming Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: ChipWrecked David Cross didn't think he needed to be present for the week of filming onboard a Carnival cruise ship, since he's unrecognizable in the pelican suit anyway. The other producers agreed that a stand-in could fill in for him during that part of filming, but the particular producer he singled out disagreed. David had to pay a huge fine of $100,000 for making this public information, Ian was written out of Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip, David missed out on earning another paycheck of $150,000,000. David was blacklisted. David worked on small roles in Kung Fu Panda 3, The Post, 8-Bit Christmas, You Hurt My Feelings, and Kung Fu Panda 4. This producer left 20th Century Fox in 2016 after the release of Me before You. She has been working for Amazon Prime Video since 2022. It's disappointing that Tony Hale couldn't help David reconcile with 20th Century Fox to get his job back in February, 2015.

Believe it or not, the franchise is actually independently owned, run like a family business.
The old married couple that own the Chipmunks were producers on these movies.
However, after the Universal lawsuit of 2000 and, well, these movies, they're very careful with what gets done with the franchise...as of writing they've wrapped up Season 5 of the cursed CGI cartoon back in March, with two more seasons on the way.
However, in the midst of all this, they've been trying to sell the franchise for the past couple years...mainly bc their children don't want to take over.
I can only hope that whoever ends up buying doesn't tarnish the brand further than it has been.

I watched this movie WAY too much as a kid, and I have no idea why. Every time I would go to my Grandma's house, she would make us pancakes, then me and my brother would sit on the couch and watch Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Alvin and the chipmunks was the shit during my childhood and I still watch it till this day, I even watched it too many times too, I remember hope they make more movies of the chipmunks.

This movie is melted into my brain. Me and my sister had it on DVD and we had it playing in the background along with other DVD movies. I literally quote stuff from this movie and me and my sister can literally just say all dialogue before it even happens. It's a blessing and a curse.
