I can fully get around the idea that the US government would need to hire professional gamers to help defeat an alien force using video game tactics. It’s stupid but believable in this scenario. However, you cannot tell me that the cabinet nor the chiefs of staff have never played a video game before.

For example, people hate reading books nowadays because they spend to much time on video games. Having a conversation online is completely different from a real one. I watched this when I was 15 at the theatres, and I remember really liking it. Nothing amazing or anything but it was pretty fun. Looking at it now, I think the problem comes from the "Adam Sandler Humor". The concept and plot is actually can be really good if executed properly

The movie is actually based on a five minute short that has the same concept and all the cool VFX, but no Adam Sandler (or dialogue for that matter). It's miles better.
