Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 4 "Claw and Hoarder Special Ricktim’s Morty" gets an in-depth analysis. Is this dragon episode the most obscene episode of Rick and Morty yet? What is the horrible secret of the talking cat in this episode, and how could it connect back to Mr. Jellybean in Season 1? In this episode of #Ricksplained, Erik Voss, Tommy Bechtold, and the voice of Mr. Goldenfold, BRANDON JOHNSON, discuss the dark themes of this #rickandmorty episode, and whether we should take the advice of the cat and stop overthinking things... or whether that advice is actually covering up the cat's disgusting sexual history.

The fact that Rick felt the need to comfort Jerry enough to wipe his memory of this says so much about what egregious things must have happened. It’s also the most nice thing Rick has ever been to Jerry in the past 4 seasons, since there was no immediate benefit on his part for him to do it, but he still did.
No,it was so bad that rick felt that no one else should have to see that
He wiped everyone’s mind including Jerry’s when that ET like fuckup happened
It wasnt act of kindness, just a easiest way to deal with Jerrys freak out
Dread Knight yea it might be the start of the role changes between rick and morty they were talking about in the “evil morty” ricksplained.
🤔 the time is key for me!...very important indeed, think about the time it took Rick to see what the CATFISH really was and the time it took Jerry to see!....VERY IMPORTANT INDEED!🤷🏿♂️🎈
I actually like the idea of the cat being an allegory for overthinking things and yet thats exactly what everyone is doing with the cat
Never thought of that, but damn.
Rick also makes the point that you can ask questions and have fun. Some people enjoy overthinking
Sometimes it better if you don't know the truth, you be much happier that way then depressed knowing everything.
Ikr its almost like humans are just innately curious and cant help but want to ask questions

Wait if the cat is with jerry wouldnt that be an easter egg towards tom and jerry
Ah thats hot

Ok. Watch the episode 3 times in a row. You will realize the meaning of the episode. 3 times is importantant because than you become desensitize to the SHOCK aspect.
1. At the very beginning a barely named space cat is shot in the head. You laughed.
When later you see a talking cat it shocks and alarms you when it is PERSONIFIED with human emotions and backstory.
2. The cat is not evil nor good, he was helping Jerry relax and have fun. On the boat, the cat does not display debauchery. It does no harm to neither older intellectuals nor youthful ignorance.
2. What they see in the binoculars is reality or real world, misery in real life. They cant handle and want to only know fantasy and escapism. Our real world is horrifying compared to a cartoon..and yet they horrified you with a subliminal cartoon.
3. The episode is about half escapism, second half relationships.
4. Dont be scared rewatch the episode, it is very deep and truthful and cunning.
TL,DR : cat that talks would have feelings.
!?!
also rick didn't kill the cat after learning about it backstory so it makes it more confusing
Probably didn't have the power to kill it
So true
How did you watch it. It doesn’t come out till Wednesday
Fregs99 came out Sunday.
Cat is just metaphor for reality..everybody has a tragic moments in their life. Maybe not ironically Matthew Broderick killed 2 people in a tragic accident in real life..cartoon space cat at beginning of episode is shot in the head but is dismissed as comedy, later talking cat is personified and more to reality. We are suppose to empathize with cat..jerry and Rick are the real fiction and cant handle reality.
What if the creators of Rick and Morty just made random stuff, drop random hints, wait for people online to propose theories and choose their favourite one to eventually go with?
That’s probably what actually happens
I fully agree on that.

The fact that Rick was about to kill himself is crazy 😂😂😂
I mean he usually does at least once a season.
Michael P the context here is what makes the difference
I think that the cat is Bill Cipher. After all, in Gravity Falls, a character called Fiddle Ford went insane after staring at him for too long. Bill Cipher died and there was a prophecy that he'd come back in a different form and a different time. So, my theory is that the cat is Bill. What do you think?
@@devlinmcguire7543 while that would be awesome, i feel the cat isn't bill and you're just trying to relive the good days of gravity falls.
He does it all the time. He tries to kill himself when unity dumped him
Underrated line: "You know who's into dragons, Morty? Nerds who refuse they're christian."
Actually true, In fact: also Christians who refuse they're nerds 😂
i mean why refuse they are christians what is the point of it where it comes from?
It’s a stupid line that doesn’t make sense. I like game of thrones and I’m an atheist. Or “normal” for all you psychos who still chase fairies at the bottom of the garden. They’re trying to be funny in a country where everyone believes in some crap.
@@JuICyBLiinGeR Actually it makes perfect sense if you know absolutely anything about theological history... Also, being an atheist doesn't make you "normal" normal is an abstract concept that exists purely in the mind and therefore it's definition changes based on perspective.. Meaning no one is normal...
@@JuICyBLiinGeR You’re taking it too literally. It’s a metaphor in which a nerd who refuses to say they’re Christian - a nerd is like a antisocial geek you could say who would call themselves atheists. If one likes fantasy (dragons), then why does one not believe in God (Christian)? He’d have to, even if it’s a little bit because he believes that little bit of fantasy.

My guess is that cat who I will be calling Tom (because Tom and Jerry) is a similar entity to a different Adult swim animated shows titular character Mr. Pickles.
So your theory is that the cat is a evil and destructive being but keeps it a low profile
My theory is the subplot of the episode is about sex offenders because Florida is controversial of it's population of sex offenders and the cat wants to go there because that's the only place it could call home and also the cat has to be a notorious space rapist and is registered sex offender by the government because of this
So you think the cat is a talking version of Mr. Pickles
Mister Ghen The cat is the reincarnation of Jeffrey Epstein. He used his Florida mansion to recruit young girls from poor backgrounds for a massage with high cash reward. He’d tell them to “go with the flow”. CASE CLOSED
thank you for that horrific reminder
Well there's a few things: first off, when the cat ditched Jerry to party on the yacht, he didn't end up doing anything other than try to make friends and 'have fun'. He then afterwards apologized to Jerry. Later he mentions he has nowhere to go. He probably isn't a rapist but just likes to 'have fun' if you catch my drift. I'm likely to believe it's a version of Schrodinger's cat. At the beginning of the episode, Jerry finds the cat in his room. At the end of the episode, he seems to forget that, screaming "He was in my home where I keep photos of my parents!" Jerry probably keeps pictures of his parents in his room, so following this theme, the cat just showed up in his room all alone from somewhere. I think when they scanned his mind they saw every conceivable possible reality very very very quickly when the cat was alone in Jerry's room, enough to make Jerry throw up after a second in and enough to catch Rick off guard after the first few seconds. Rick, being one of the most powerful beings in the entire multiverse has a lot of lines he won't cross. He doesn't turn his back on his family, he doesn't kill *too* randomly, etc... Rick probably saw a lot of realities where the cat "had fun" with various members of his family along with the possibility of the cat committing mass genocide, child raping (more specifically Morty/Summer) or any number of insane things considering the cat was alone and pretty much anything could've happened. Rick probably got so overwhelmed by even considering those kinds of thoughts he wanted to kill himself for it, which is likely why he didn't kill the cat because it wasn't its fault. Anyway that's just my theory
Damn son
you sir can have my like
yeah i thought this too
I was going with the Scroungers Cat thing too, but this theory realy pulls it all together.
Nah, they didnt see alternate realities. Rick just scanned its brain and saw what he did already. Remember the cat saying he is ashamed how he can talk". So what rick and jerry saw was exactly why cat could talk and it was due to some fucked up & dirty reason. Thats why jerry threw up.
My theory: the cat is the spawn of an unholy union between cat and *something* (probably human) which is why we heard a crying baby from the machine and it's also why rick didn't kill the cat, he cant control what he is
But What abote jerry line abote his parents

Doesn't seem like the "cat" was the perpetrator of anything they saw (or else Rick would've definitely tried to kill it.) The "cat" is probably some kind of servant for a bigger evil lurking somewhere in the universe.
Lauriston Brewster nah bruh; that cat definitely has done some serious shit himself. He even confessed to doing things. And there’s a major reason he’s itching to get back to Florida
Cats were once believed to work for the devil. That cat was definitely in the biblical hell at some point.

That cat is voiced by Mathew Brodrick, somehow that makes it more disturbing.
I've watched three explanations for this episode and this is my favorite. Thanks
The Cat represents 2 things: Schrodinger's Cat and "Curiosity Killed the Cat." Basically because we don't know what happened so it could be anything, and trying to learn the truth is not worth it. But the second half of "Curiosity Killed the cat" is "but satisfaction brought it back" so we probably haven't seen the last of this cat.
Damn, you've got my like
The general consensus seems to be that rick did a good thing erasing jerry's memory of what the cat did but it just reminded me of how he erased morty' s memories to keep him from feeling like he's smarter than him; in jerry's case he displayed that heroic nature we saw from their previous dimension being willing to remember it because he felt like it was the right thing to do but rick took that away from him maybe he doesn't want him to grow as a person as well

I felt like the cat was like the equivalent of a reality check. As long as you don't pay any attention, you"re having fun with life. Ignorance is Bliss.
It's a Event Horizon reference. That's all
Rick let the cat go, which to me means he isn't really a world level threat. The cat must be associated with evil, but not someone who did the evil deeds. Someone else mentioned he's probably a pet/servant to a demon or an evil God.
I personally don't think Rick would let the cat go if it was a pedo or a murderer.
this was what i was thinking, but yours is a lot more detailed
There's a lot of talk about the point of the cat being to not ask questions and simply roll with it. However, just before stopping to scan the cat, Rick says that he thinks it's condescending to basically be told that he can't ask questions and still have fun. Then Jerry agrees. I guess it could be some sort of commentary about the dangers of curiosity. Idk. I just know that I've always been the kind of person who wants to ask questions, and preferably have them answered too.
When they sent the cat away at the end I almost cried

I know the cat is a whole thing on not overthinking but Rick also makes the point that you can ask questions and have fun at the same time. Sometimes it’s fun to explore pointless theories, which I think people here would agree since this is theory video on a fictional talking cat

Brandon's Plantation bit was the funniest thing I've seen and heard in weeks
I reckon it was literally the cat just doing weird cat things like licking themselves in weird places and the cat licked himself in those places Infront of the pictures of Jerry's parents in his room which he was in before
He says the cat was in his house where he keeps pictures of his parents because he was literally in his house you’re thinking too much into it
Kid From 21 Jump Street it’s like saying he let a murderer in his home
Yes but he said his past is why he can talk. How would rape give the cat the ability to speak?
Another example of characters puking when they see something disgusting is in the Purge episode. Rick gets nauseous watching off-screen murders and pukes out the car window.
This episode was hilarious from beginning to end
I think the cat is some sort of incarnation of Jacob. It would explain why seeing the video made Jerry specifically vomit while just making Rick rather uncomfortable (and warn Jerry not to look), why the cat would be in Jerry's home with his parents, would support the notion that his parents were being taken advantage of in a sexual relationship, and the overall sexual deviant behavior. At this point, Rick and his family have seen so many things that I can't imagine any particular event that would make them that distraught, unless they had some sort of attachment to the subjects of the event. Just wouldn't explain the baby noises, but knowing Rick and Morty...I'm sure we'll get those blanks filled in eventually.
So the cat may be a metaphor for people asking too many questions but something missed was when the cat is ignored and he wants people to talk to him to ask him why he can talk it also shows that if people dont ask questions and it becomes accepted and is the norm then it stops becoming unique and its seen as not as important
I’ve been wondering about this since last night! Strange!
You're most defiantly are overthinking the cat's story part. It isn't about his crime (if any), Rick was trying to figure out how the cat was able to talk. I think the reason it peeked Rick's curiosity because the cat was acting evasive whenever the subject of how it could talk came up. I think what Rick and Jerry seen was how the cat got the ability to talk. I think that's why Rick didn't kill the cat. The cat might be a victim of something horrific that gave him the gift of gab and intelligence.
I think it's a callback to The Thing which had a mysterious animal turn out to be a horrible alien from space.
matthew broderick, killed two people. Never forget.
The cat is a lovecraftian entity called Nyarlathotep. The only one of the Alien gods that can TALK like a human and one of its basic features is the shapeshifter talent.
The cat is from space. After monitoring the planet, they assumed that cats were the dominant species of the planet so they cloned Cat into a cat to infiltrate the planet and aid the eventual take over. He is also this multiverse's version of Mr. Jelly Bean.
The cat is from space... Space Hell from the movie Event Horizon

Reminds me of the Thanksgiving episode of South Park when Cartman was sleeping he was dreaming of Hitler, people dying, screams of terror, and when he woke up yelling he was asked what he saw and he said "what I always see when I close my eyes" 😂😂😂
The portion where Rick looks at the "truth" from the cat's past reminded me of the Event Horizon video message, with all the messed up stuff happening all over the ship *shrugs*
The eyes of the cat remind me of Dipper Pines eyes when he is taken over by Bill Cypher. Could be another shuttle nod to Gravity falls.
I heard marching like an army so maybe its like a dictators brain in the cat. The venture brothers had an episode where a dog had Hitlers brain so maybe its like that

goddammit stop spying on me
Awesome episode!
