  • Rick and Morty Snake Time Travel Episode Every Joke You Missed!
    Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 5 "Rattlestar Ricklactica" features the series' first TIME TRAVEL episode, breaking the writers' long held rule against the overdone sci-fi plot device. How did this episode avoid the common tropes of time travel with an impressively structured story and insane attention to detail in the snake planet? Erik Voss breaks down this episode of #rickandmorty shot by shot for all the hidden jokes you might have overlooked. What are all the Terminator parallels with the snake time travel? How does Jerry's subplot the darkest event yet for him? In what ways does this episode call back Interdimensional Cable, the Vindicators episode, Ricksy Business, and other past episodes?

      Jinn - items that exists within a closed time loop: (From wiki) "A 1992 paper by physicists Andrei Lossev and Igor Novikov labeled such items without origin as Jinn, with the singular term Jinnee."

    • @weebjeez
      @weebjeez Před 4 lety

      So... basically, there are two main points for the time travel, here...
      Point 1: The snake lab, where the costumes and time-travel are delivered to
      Point 2: Smith House, where the santa hats and snake skins are delivered
      So the chronological order is:
      1. They are given items at Point 1. (receipt)
      2. They are given items at Point 2. (receipt)
      3. They build the things to bring to themselves at Point 1.
      4. They travel to Point 1. (delivery)
      5. They collect the items to bring to themselves at Point 2.
      6. They travel to Point 2. (delivery)
      However, there is no indications about what happens between #4 to #6. At any point, the hats could have been discarded, which seems not unlikely, given how done with everything they were, by that point. It is possible for them to have picked up the santa hats somewhere else, then. While unlikely, it is possible.
      The black eye, though, is the real issue with the loop in my opinion... It was entirely predicated, I feel, on the time loop, as Rick hasn't been shown to inflict physical violence on Morty (only scientific horrors) except now. Which I feel was more a dual-purpose thing, to not only remind him to listen to Rick more often, but to fix the issue of this Morty not having a black eye, like his time-travelling doppel.

    • @krzyszwojciech
      @krzyszwojciech Před 4 lety

      @@weebjeez Yes, there is a hypothetical possibility the hats were created and discarded off screen, but given the fact that it's a time travel episode, it's very implausible. The writers' intention is clear - play on t.t. tropes.
      The black eye is not an issue. It has a causal source - Rick's fist. And yes, it seems it was somehow necessary for the causal loop to be consistent*, which I find hilarious. The hats - to the contrary, do not have causes, not inside of the timestream itself anyway.
      * the fact Rick never just hit Morty doesn't mean he sometimes doesn't want to, especially when he's a pain in Rick's butt.
      Btw, by paradoxes I do not mean inconsistencies. Just ideas giving you a pause. Even the grandfather paradox can have many resolutions, depending on the rules of how time works.

    • @krzyszwojciech
      @krzyszwojciech Před 4 lety

      @@CoryTheNorm The loop _is_ closed. It's just that the hats have no causal source. They exist only within the loop. Hypothetically the they could have had a source outside of the timestream - like whatever reality the space cops are based on.
      A little Christmas miracle...

    • @weebjeez
      @weebjeez Před 4 lety

      @@krzyszwojciech I mean, sure... the black eye has a source, but it's also a source which is only enacted BECAUSE it had always been enacted.
      Rick punched Morty in the face, because as they were going in, Rick realized Morty needed a black eye, and had a decent enough reason to give him one, other than keeping a paradox from happening. The black eye existed only because it always had.
      Personally, I find it much easier believing that the hats were discarded (maybe even moments after they left the snake laboratory, out of disgust/annoyance at the whole situation) and, that sometime during Christmas, they were given Santa hats by Beth/Jerry because they seemed like Rick and Morty weren't really in the Christmas spirit... than I do with accepting Rick sucker-punching Morty, without the influence of the black eye he saw Future Morty have, earlier that day.
      The former, while requiring a single, likely assumption (that they could find santa hats around christmas-time), fits with their characterization. The latter does not.
      The only times Rick has been physically violent to Morty has been when he has been blackout wasted (and in his stupor, at least once, believing that Morty had been replaced by a duplicate) or when Morty has gone completely out of control (for one reason or another) So I put forward that it's not the Santa hats that are out of place, as far as time-loop created objects/events, but the black eye.
