Simple breakfast food in camp For more rise add baking powder French Press in this video is final Pre Production Prototype and scheduled to release 3rd Qtr of 2022
I went camping over on Santa Catalina Island, California and where we were there were no trees or bushes to harvest dead wood from for a fire but, there was a LOT of buffalo chips EVERYWHERE. When I say everywhere, I mean everywhere! So I saved my stove for another day and cooked on buffalo chips and pots and pans that we carried with us.
frybread was created in 1864 using the flour, sugar, salt and lard that was given to the dene (sometimes called navajo) by the United States government when the dene, who were living in Arizona, were forced to make the 300-mile journey known as the "Long Walk" and relocate to Bosque Redondo, New Mexico, onto land that could not easily support their traditional staples of vegetables and beans. this is a food with a history of resilience and survival, perfect for bushcraft!
Dave, thank you for sharing, reminds me when i use to live in New Mexico, the Navajo would make fry bread about the size of a dinner plate and then make Navajo Tacos, oh how I miss those Navajo Tacos. Take care, stay healthy and God bless you and your Family always.
I was homeless some years back and all I had was a cheesy claw hammer and some old 2x6 piece's of wood but couldn't split the wood until I found a old railroad spike and it was fire in the hole coffee time !
Thanks for the video Dave. I'm gonna do this with my grandson this weekend. I've noticed you're drinking more coffee. I can remember from way back in the day, you would say, "I'm not much of a coffee drinker, I prefer hot chocolate!" Take care and God Bless!
Dude! That looks so good! I used to eat Indian fry bread (that’s how they spelled it) when I was a kid at Navajo gatherings in AZ. I can’t wait to take my daughter camping and cook a batch. Thanks man! From what you said at the end I’m going to fry up bacon and use that grease ,and add oil, to make the fry bread.
Great tip. A little baking powder in the dry mix would put that over the top. About a teaspoon or so for that batch. I used to carry Bisquick on backpacking trips because all you needed was water and a means to cook the dough. Good stuff.
I find all your videos to be super informative and entertaining and I really enjoy these camp cooking videos to the point where I hope you make more of them and maybe even create a series. Being able to cook simple but good tasting food while you’re out in the bush is extremely important.
Thanks Dave! I'll have to try this sometime. And that Woodsman's Wedgie is definitely on my list for my next purchase. Thing looks like a multifunctional beast.
Glad you are sharing your recipes and cooking tips again. Came across some from close to ten years ago and found a lot of valuable content. Thanks for all your hard work.
I'm planning to go out this upcoming weekend and I might have to give this a try, that or I might try to hit my mom up for one of our old family recipes for something that is similar to this... Thanks for the awesome cooking videos lately, I love them!
I just stumbled onto your channel thanks to the algorithm! I'm really excited for these type of videos to be released, since me and my girlfriend have been camping a lot more and getting outdoors. Thanks for the watch!!
Dave, I love seeing you back at the out door cooking. I used to watch them years ago when you did them regularly. When will we see the coffee press for the 64 oz.nesting cup? I have made cowboy coffee in mine for a long time without that lid press combo. Please keep up the video’s . Love to see it!
Hey I just wanted to thank you very much for teach me a lot of things I've been watching you since a dual survival and all that stuff always like learning from you man.
Great vid! I gotta make that bread! Caffeine free since 1997, the best thing I ever did. It has changed my life. I can get up go, no up and down cycles, full natural energy all day long.
Thanks for the cooking video's. I've been on a few 2 week rafting trips to Alaska and nothing keeps moral and attitude higher than hearty meals. Good information.
Hey Big Dave I love the recipe for the bread you really knocked me for loop at the end when you talked about the jacket! Because all I can say to myself was like wow, He looks great in that jacket, he looks like he needs to be posing for a photo for a cover of some kind of survival magazine!!
I have used a similar recipe and they are great!!! If you have a little honey or some blue berries, strawberries, pecans, or something of the like they make a great dessert and travel well too!! I have used self rising flour also. Just added water and fried in lard!! Thanks for the video!!
Sounds delicious will have to try it some time and simple enough to make and carry. That woodsman wedgie splits like a knife thru butter dang!! Missed your cooking videos. As always thank you for all you do brother 👍
Definitely enjoyed the simplicity of this one. This appears to have the potential for premixing the dry ingredients and portioning out to simplify the potential for using for multiple meals during an overnight excursions.
Man you read my mind as I was typing about the jacket. Good stuff, you know how to put out enjoyable content with a purpose. It's not fluff for the likes. Keep it up.
I love Indian fry bread. Good stuff. A few weeks ago I got a good deal on raspberries, so I made a couple of small jars of homemade raspberry jam. That would make a great breakfast--fry bread + homemade jam. 😊

I have to try this ... Indian fry bread 👌
Love it! I usually add my water first and then the oil, I figure it mixes in more evenly, but I prefer a thinner batter.
Great video. 👍
If you want to switch it up resins and other dry fruits are great to try. Easy to take along on hikes as well.
