- In this video we test a smaller runner turbo manifold to test the gains.We were hoping for a massive powerband shift but we just didn't see it. We then test a Holset for interest sake. It was good but not that good.

That's good gains. 💪🏽 We weren't really looking for power gains. Just wanted to see if it would move the powerband.
For me was just to get a bettir spool and ja it did help

@@lowdl and my car only revs to 7000 but i did rebuild the motor all most similer to yours and just done 350km on it so think it wil be better

Top content as always. For the bra with the runaway Diesel, next time just block the air intake (must be done quick enough though)
That diesel ran away after they jump started it. I didn't know that blocking the intake is the key. I need to know this. Wouldn't want it happening o my daily.

A proper 1.25" split-pulse manifold and divided 2cm2 housing will blow any GT30 combo out the water. Sticking a 0.48 on a HX35 is holding it back severely and it becomes a mismatch of compressor vs turbine flow. Props for experimenting and trying different things. Also most South African made dyno's don't load nearly enough to see the spool differences. Did you test rpm threshold on the road ? 3rd gear loaded runs from 2000 rpm for example ?
I agree with the dyno load issue. See it happen all the time with open loop boost strategy. I didn't test any of the other tested setups on the road. It wasn't exactly road friendly but I should have to see what it does on the logs.

Very surprising. I've seen quite a few Holset graphs and the guys generally have good results with that turbo. More data to work with is good. Maybe there's more in it with some tweaking.
Decent power on the GTS and on your car...have you maybe thought of doing a plenum intake? maybe there are restrictions. Just thinking out loud LOL cant say if im right or wrong
I have thought about doing a intake but it's not cheap... for the one I want that is. There are gains to be had but it's also one of those things where if you go too big, you can lose power.
Very nice and informative content , quite interesting yet odd that the 1.25 didn't benefit mid or lowrange at all and just stayed exactly the same basically apart from top end, always wanted to experiment on this with my 20v ,, twin scroll holset spools up way faster on my 1.8t though will make positive pressure over 2000rpm and 2bar by just over 4000rpm in 3rd with a 1.25" sidewinder manifold and long runners
Curious to see how long and short manifolds would compare aswell
It's very odd. It was interesting but something isn't right. lol. It should have spooled up quicker. It's like it won't change no matter what combo we try. Twinscroll is great. Sounds like you've got a good combo. 2 bar just over 4k is epic. I think that setup only hit 1.8 bar around 6k rpm.
@@lowdl doesn't seem right at all lol , when I did my research I came up on a article of a 4g63 header size experiment and it had way better low- midrange on the smaller size runners and the benefits were minimal upsizing to 1.5" and it was making 700hp , so this was very confusing to see 🙈😂 unless the 20v just needs the flow more than we thought , also loved the cam tests you did man , great content and well put out videos thanks for posting your finds on everything you're trying
@@armandbeyers2935 I read the same article and it was very interesting. It was part of the reason I wanted to do this test. And I looked at a lot of the Badger5 graphs to see how their setups spool. I don't think my test has anything to do with the 20v flow. I think there's another issue and this just made me eager to find and fix it. There's at least 500 rpm to be gained.

Nice video, do you perhaps have full details on the turbo in terms of compressor details and turbine details. What is your fuelling setup?

This is the turbo specs:
Compressor Wheel: 54*67mm
Turbine Wheel: 54*49mm
Fueling for these tests was E40 and yes I'm running meth injection. Fueling setup is stock Mk2 GTI high pressure pump.

On the holset do you have the comp and turbine specs? I am assuming T3?
@@321ror Yes that's correct. No idea on the Holset wheel specs other than it coming up a HX35. It's T3 with 0.48 hotside.

No headwork. It's refreshed but no performance mods.
How often do you have to empty your catch can
I haven't emptied it since it's been rebuilt nearly 2 years ago. It's starting to smoke out the breather now but there's no vapour. We had the outlet open against the wheel well and it wasn't dirty at all. I think it's because it's venting into the intake and to the catch can.
Okay that's great bro do you have a voltage meter lol. Because im trying to find someone that can add a relay to my fans because it takes alot of voltage when it comes on it drops to 13.2 when lights is on and 13.0 when interior fan

Maybe try a garrett g28
There isn't a G28 that I know of, I think you're referring to a GTX28. Those are good. Would spool nicely but they're power limited. 500hp is probably pushing the limits on them, and I'd like to get my power to around 550-600hp eventually.
If you want quicker spool, better low to midrange, go to a G25-550.
I didn't think a small comp wheel would make that much difference. I'll eventually go 2.0 and then this turbo will be a lot better. I'm not unhappy with the way it performs, it's just not a lot of room for error with my 3rd gear shift.
