- This has been a long time coming. I've been wanting to see if the billet camshafts I've had in this engine for nearly 2 years actually made a difference to the power and the results surprised me.
Hope you enjoy the video!

I was anxiously awaiting another video from you Lorenzo. Keep them coming bro.....please😊
I'll try my best 🙏🏽
On my SC Peugeot i had stage 2 fast road cams 264/10.6mm lift. It have 350hp/330nm, changed stock cams and boom.... 420hp/460nm.
Brilliant gains 👏🏽
Great update lorenzo short but potent 😂 mid range is where the spice is at 👍 can't wait to the car in action again 👊
It's going to be out of action for a while. Lots of winter mods planned. But I'm looking forward to testing the upgrades. 😬
Your mk2 is a beast... love it💪🏼💪🏼
🙏🏽 appreciate it Mario.
Car has come a long way
It really has and I feel like it's only getting started. So much plans for this car. Hopefully I get to see them through.
Respect bru.
Coming from you, much love.
Love your vids
Really appreciate it. 🙏🏽
Yo Buddy, this is great insight hey, basically you trying to get your car to run perfect and i like your way of thinking to get that power.. it's best to think out of the Box all the best further ahead my man 😁💪🏽🙏🏽
I'm just trying to make the best of what I've got and test things that are known to work. It takes time and money to do this but it's worth the effort. 🙌🏽
Any cam that will work on a N/A engine will work on a turbo application as well, as long a the boost to back pressure ratio stays positive. You wil have to get more data regarding the pressure ratio across the engine to make a final call on the larger cams. eg: if your intake manifold pressure is 2bar but the back pressure between engine an turbine is 2.1 there wil be backwash and loss of power.
Keep up the good work!
Very interesting video.
Great Stuff let's see how it does on the Track.
Thanks Lorenzo great video
A few more things to change and test before it hits the track. But I'm looking forward to it. 😬
Great content, thanks LL. can’t wait to see ML vs LL. let me know when this happens, can’t wait 😅
ML will be out with his Mk2 soon. My car is now the hold up. Once it's done, we will race. 😎
Couldn't wait for an update
It's a small one today but it's an update. 💪🏽
@@lowdl all that matters bro informative content always💪
6:52 maybru, midrange for days
It's a solid jump and I think there's more in it with some tuning. 😬
This is a very interesting video. You killed the myths. Small question. What about stock NA cams, e.g. the AGN cams, they are hard to find but they are slightly more aggressive than the AGU cams but not as aggressive as the aftermarket 270/257 cams you mentioned. If you get your hands on at least the intake AGN cam, it would be a great comparison as well.
The AGN cams are good. Just doing the intake is known to give some gains. I'd be down to test those. Finding the cams isn't too difficult. Getting my tuner to test them will be harder. lol.
Interesting to understand the detail’s behind that but it’s been proved like this quite a few times. So many guys making decent power say ‘stock cams’ and now you can understand why.
I wish I knew this sooner. Been running the billets and losing midrange for almost 2 years 🤣 but it's good to learn and see the data back to back.
Awesomeness bru, im glad u getting everything sorted, strange bt true about the cams, bt hey if it works it works, how far is dads car?
The cams is very strange. Turbo cars are just different. And my dads car is nearly ready to hit the track. I'll update you guys on that next week. He will probably bring it out for Robot Racing or Street Mania in the next few weeks.
Yes I agree,a 20vt dyno day does sound like a good idea.😬😂
A 20vt dyno day would be awesome. There needs to be a incentive to bring the guys out. I find that a lot of the swapped 20vt cars don't really do dyno days.
Its been proven many times that stock (mild profiled) cams on a turbo engine are better in terms of performance, tuning, drivability and overall maintenance. Normally aspirated engines benefit hugely from changing cams. Again, excellent video, thank you!
It's a pity that we weren't able to do back to back testing when the cams initially went in. I would have checked them from the get go. Lol. But yes, stock cams does really well. If I keep these cams I'll have them reprofiled to a very mild spec that will have more lift. That should be interesting to see.
@@lowdl Cams, valves, springs, ports...It is such a game of variables. Hang in there, the car sounds and runs great.
@@anesennaidoo5279 I might mess around with valvetrain and rev it over 8k. But on the flip side, it will cost about the same to stroke it to 2.0 and keep the rpm the same. As they say: there's no replacement for displacement.
Lets go!! 1st
💪🏽 you're a champ.
Good test vid. Have you heard of guys, using s3 cams?
No not really. The NA AGN cams seems to be the cam of choice for most guys. I don't think the S3 cams are very different to the rest. But I'll look into it.
Enayets car we played with cams too and reverted to stock cams and like you made more power. Best yet was turbo spooled a full 1000rpm earlier too.
I was really hoping for earlier spool as well. We're going to fit a smaller runner manifold and see if that's the magic pill. Will update you guys on that next week. Even if I get 500 rpm, I'll be happy. I just need a 3000rpm powerband to stay in boost.
Use a 36mm ID short runner.
Interesting and cams definitely should do something so all the best with the manifold hunt that's not a cheap fix nvm the leak. What did u spend so far to get to 300kw 😅 great power over stock, all the best 👌
Getting to 300kw wasn't too difficult. Just needed a good turbo, exhaust & turbo manifold and ethanol. It cost me way too much but I've been through 2 other turbos and lots of other changes so I can't give you a number.
What management system are you running? Awesome build btw
Thank you very much. It's on a Ecu Master emu black.
Vag somehow makes n/a cams a tad bit better. 1.9 tdi flows better with Sdi cams. V6 2.7t gets biggest heads from 2.8 v6 and cams from 2.4 v6. Look for 1.8 92kw(125hp) n/a cams. I heard many project makers put them in and see gains. Try it.
Hey. Thanks for your input. I've heard the NA 20v cams work well. A lot of the time the guys only change the intake cam and get results. So it will be good to see how it works on my setup.
I've seen on the 1.8T forums that most guys stick with stock cams even beyond 330kw..no sweat. Torque wins races on the 400m in any event 👌
Yes stock cams or the NA cams seems to be the setup of choice from what I've seen. I can understand why now. Haha. And yes, a nice wide torque band is what it needs. For my setup it seems that over 300nm throughout the race is what keeps the car moving nicely.
What is the specs of the turbo thats currently on the car. Got a polo gi 1.8t and want to upgrade turbo soon. I currently have Ko4.
It's a G25 660. It's a 54mm turbo. If you want something punchy like the K04 but with more power, a GTX3071 or G25 550 is a good option.
Great vid as allways just if i may where did you buy the arp head studs from and cost pls iam allso looking at 1.6bar boost and pushing for for 300kw and iam allso runing std head and bolts
You can try Turbos and Nos in Jozi. They sell the ARP head studs. Price is approx R5300-R5800 from what I've seen around. Stock head bolts are not bad but they're stretch bolts and will eventually come loose over time so it's worth investing in.
Nice video as always! Would love to run against you sometime
I'm keen for a run. I don't think I'll be at the track for a month or so but I'll keep you guys updated with the videos. When the car is sorted just DM me on IG and we can arrange.
Did the bigger cams have the adjustable pulleys?and did the stock cams have the stock pulleys?or both had stock pulleys?
Both had stock pulleys. I bought the cams with no pulleys on them. Ideally it needed adjustable pulleys internally and externally to get the most out of it.
Do you not think it was losing abit of power on the first runs cause of the head been lifted?
It's likely. But I don't think it would have made much more on top. It wasn't lifting to the point where coolant was spewing out. So the lift couldn't have been much, if at all at the boost I was running for the test. It's the gains in the mid range that I was after. If we started going above 1.7 bar boost I think that the numbers would have been skewed a lot more.
Should try and change the turbo housing.
I would love to if it was accessible. Might be some special order item or something. That's a last resort but you're right, would spool up quickly with a .48 housing.
Remove the cone filter and run open stack, maybe she would be even faster 😁
Haha. Im sure it does help but I won't run it without a filter so there's no point. I need to box off the filter so that it doesn't suck in hot air, that should help.
@@lowdl or that could work, cause it does get very heated in the bay especially if you're waiting in line or just came from a run back into one, but excited to see how she pulls with the std cams 🤩
@@keelinrossouw2635 It's definitely going to be better. That little bit of gains will help when racing. I mostly need that for my 3rd gear shift. That's the only time I fall into that section of the powerband.
What is your setup motor wise on your golf 4 station wagon is it down pipe
It's very basic.

@@saeedmoses5444 thanks Saeed 🙌🏽
I have questions....First cams. Do the cam lift and duration differ on the cams or mostly just duration? locally made or imported?
Exhaust mani.... is the runner larger in diameter to the port sizes or the same in size? might it not be easier to change to a different size /make snail maybe smaller exhaust side on the snail?
Side shafts / cv's... any plans this side?
The cams have more lift as well. They're Estas billets that was locally made. The box only shows duration and not lift. We can measure the lift so that's something I'll check now that they're out. The spec I assume is similar to cat cams 3664.
Exhaust mani has 42mm runners. So quite a bit larger than the exhaust port. The hot side options are limited. It starts at 0.49 but then jumps to 0.72. I went with the 0.72 because I didn't want excessive back pressure when we start to lean on it. After doing my research, it seemed like the 1.8T guys liked the 0.72.
Shafts and CV's will be upgraded after the performance upgrades are done. I'll go with bigger inner CV's and custom shafts.
Nothing about vvt?
Vvt was enabled for both cams tested.
Is the head stock?
Yes the head is completely stock. I just fit the cams because I assumed that's how you make more power 😅
Those engines really don't respond to much more that 300° cams and a proper can set is close to R20,000 because you have to import it
That's true. 👍🏽
Ard cams would be best
Yeah, So I've heard. A little goes a long way.
