Turbo Dyno Test HX35(60mm) vs BorgWarner K27 | Power Driven Diesel

  • In this episode, Will and Todd test the Aggressor HX60/60 on PapaSaurus, the 410k mile, high mileage 12v Cummins. Will the HX35 based 60mm turbo make more power than the 58mm Borg Warner K27? Watch and see! As an added bonus, they pull the silencer ring and mess around with the air intake system to perform a "hot air intake" test. Gale Banks would be proud! #doitforGale

    Another awesome video guys! It’s crazy just how close your new aggressor is with the k27! I can’t wait for the next test because that’s the turbo I was planning to do.. I didn’t want to just toss a 60mm compressor wheel into my hx35 with out milling the turbine housing as well so I could run the larger turbine with the stock 12cm turbine housing of the hx35.. I feel this is a lethal combination.. small turbine housing with a larger compressor, compressor wheel, and turbine .. I’m guessing big power Gains!! Can’t wait for the next test!! 👍🏻

    • @73cjproject
      @73cjproject Před 3 lety

      Major difference with the comparison is a gas engine with higher intake air temp versus a boosted diesel engine with a higher intake air temp, the benefit to less restriction in a boosted application outweighs the loss created by 50⁰ hotter temps. Totally different behaviors between those engines.

    • @bcbloc02
      @bcbloc02 Před 3 lety

      @@73cjproject Totally false. I did the thermodynamic math and you would have to reduce the air filter restriction by 5psi to make the same power as just 25deg of cooler intake temp offers assuming you were running 30psi of boost on a 5.9. 5psi of air filter restriction would be one heck of a lot. Been 15 years since I tested it but best I recall a clean stock 2nd gen paper air filter was only about 3 psi of restriction. The change either way is only about 20hp on a 425hp engine. You raise your intake temps 50deg on a 75deg day you are going to kill your power almost 10% that is substantial.

    Doing a dyno run on a cold diesel is fucked up! Bring it upto trmp first!!

    I made 495 rwhp in 2006 with a hx35/40 on a 01 5 speed 2wd with 150hp inj’s,Industrial Injection dragon Flow VP,and Edge Drag Comp on 3x5(basically an Edge EZ)......
    Any higher setting on the Edge it would fuel so hard it would drop 100rwhp.
    Turbo was built by Jason at Forced Inductions and I ran it for a couple of hundred thousand miles. Prob one of my favorite all around turbos.....
    That’s why I bought a k27 and plan on the Power Driven Compounds!

    Love the way you guys did this. Just one point.
    Don’t just say “huge power numbers”.
    What might be a huge number to me won’t be the same huge number to you. I’m a turbine girl so huge power to me is 50,000 shaft HP (Navy DDGs for instance) Did the wheel do 1,000? 1,500? If we know what your products do and are capable of were more likely to buy them.
    P.S
    I hope Matt over at OffTheRanch calls you guys for a collaboration. He’s got that common rail he calls Earl for towing.

      It would be cool to see turban, I mean turbine shaft speeds on these.. but dyno numbers are already a good start

    This is why y’all’s stuff blows up all the time. That’s so stupid running a cold engine especially on a diesel. If you had any idea about how engines work and what heat expansion is you would let it warm up. Then admitting it wasn’t a fair test because it wasn’t warmed up and saying “it apparently likes warm runs” like no sh!t I wonder why. I feel bad for your customers.

      Why so spicy? To clarify, a "Cold Run" was that it had idled for a minimum of 10 minutes and had done a low 100hp pull first. By cold run we simply mean that it hadn't been heat-soaked first with a 300+ horsepower run just prior.
