Got the Bourbon last week enjoying a glass right now, great review
I really like the distillery background info you give as part of the review. I tried both of these this summer and enjoyed them as well. As a PNW resident, it was especially interesting to here your comments about the terroir. 👍
Amazing review! I love the uniqueness of the bourbon profile. Now I just need to get the rye. Thank you!
Gotta get a bottle of this when I go to Washington next! Did you mention chill-filtration? Thanks for the review brother! Another great one!
Really like the final breakdowns at the end
I live in Washington and just picked up a Woodinville SB Cask Strength at 120.66 proof and it is AMAZING! 90/100! Jason - Thank you for the review as always! Cheers!
Late to the game here but I picked up the Bourbon for $39 here in Indianapolis. Just a couple pours in, but loving it. It is just straightforward for me: vanilla, caramel, & oak on nose & palate. My wife said they should make a cologne that smells like this!
Just came across the Woodinville Straight Bourbon Whiskey at my local shop. Picked it up for $40 yesterday. Looking forward to try it in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the review.
Siping on this bourbon now and found it on sale for $34 bucks in North Carolina. It’s a good pour . I need to try the rye and port finished next. Great review and awesome channel Jason.
Great review as always, have had a few samples of their stuff and really enjoyed it. Can't wait for them to eventually be in Wisconsin, who knows when that will be. Cheers buddy!
Probably sooner than later after being acquired. Thanks buddy.
I just bought the Rye today on a recommendation, and just wrote up my tasting notes. I didn't find everything that you found in it, but surprisingly (for me), I did find some of the same notes in the nose, taste, and finish as you did. Thanks for a great review. Oh, and I found it for $40, so if you think it is a good deal at $55, then I did well.
I love their bourbon. It’s fantastic. Just got a bottle here in NC. Cheers.
Just had my first glass of Woodinville Bourbon. Good stuff
Nice review, grabbed a bottle last week here in California 45 bucks! Nice so far!
Got a bottle of the straight bourbon, can’t wait to open, thanks for the great review.
Buy a bottle of LARCENY and a bottle of REBEL YELL 100 for what you'd pay for that 1 bottle WOODINVILLE and you can keep the change and actually enjoy those.
Great video!
I just tried the Bourbon and I loved it!
I'm a big fan of Woodinville, as a 5yr bourbon, especially after being open a few months and level comes a little down the shoulder. Great review, balance is a great descriptor.
$37 and $42 at Binny’s. Good review as usual!
Maybe it will get to Tennessee soon! Sounds wonderful!
Glad you reviewed this. Funny timing too. A buddy of mine gave me a sample of the rye...this was what i texted him for notes....
The nose is pleasant, definitely rye forward off the bat. Little rubbery, little citrus.
The flavor is very nice. Honey, orange and peppery spice.
Finish is solid for a low proof whiskey. It lasts...no heat, but a peppery tingle.
Great notes. Definitely comes off like a rye. very sweet on the palate for me. got more citrusy for me as I kept sipping. Love the cream soda note.
Great review. I have their regular and cask strength of both and they are incredible. I didn't know that they had been purchased by Moët Hennessy...this explains a few things though. I visited the distillery last year and asked some simple questions of one of the distillers and got a very canned response that made me wonder why they were being so evasive. Every craft distillery I've visited loves nothing more than to answer questions and talk about how they make their whiskey, but I guess these folks are in the big leagues now. Hmm, maybe they'll get a Wee Beastie Monster Truck of their own? :)
These guys are making some good stuff! I live in OR and we just got the port finished bourbon from Woodenville that I just opened a couple days ago and I'm really digging it.
I got a bottle too. They are making top quality juice. Cheers.
I got a private selection single barrel at 119 proof I'm excited to try it!
The Rye makes for a great Old Fashioned. 🥃 cheers Jason
Nice review, I get that chocolate note in Westland (Seattle) and Bull Run (Portland) whiskies too. The Price for this throughout Oregon is $39 and the rye $34. The Barrel Proof editions are $55. Cheers!
Great review, Jason! I really enjoy my Woodinville bourbon and will be buying another. I should try the rye😊 Cheers brother
Yes sir!!
Richie KL Wines has a couple different cask Strength offerings of the bourbon. Pretty damn good stuff, will admit the standard offering is very comparable. Cheers brother
Santacruzn I'll check it out, Chris, thanks brother!
I’ve had the cask strength, it’s interestingness funky!
lol. good way to put it.
I just realized a few days ago my Total Wine store carries the Woodinville Straight Bourbon for $34.99 and I guess it just won double gold at the S.F. spirits competition. They also have the rye for $36.49. I think I'll pick one up before the vultures catch on. Great review.
The Bourbon just hit Maryland last week. Looking forward to finding there rye and Cask strengths.
Just did a tasting of Woodinville and Driftless Glen small batch. Both very enjoyable but giving slight advantage to the Driftless Glen
Hey Jason:
Not a North American Rye, but I bought a bottle of KILBEGGAN Small Batch Rye recently. Here are my impressions:
SLÁINTE
Mike
KILBEGGAN Small Batch Rye Irish Whiskey
8/8/20
47% ABV Mashbill 30% Rye, the rest split between Malted and Un-malted Barley. The first whiskey produced wholly on-site at the Kilbeggan Distillery in many years. (Whiskey Wash)
This is my second setting with this whiskey so air has mixed with the spirit.
COLOR: Pale Yellow Nice ring with many legs running swiftly
NOSE: Strong Malt sweet note followed by a Spice note; then light black pepper. Slight Dill note as well.
PALATE: Sweet Dill arrival, with a creamy mouth feel, some alcohol burn on my tongue which fades as I swirl it. A black pepper note appears; then a dryness with a light dill note returning.
FINISH: Light pepper in my throat and on my tongue with a light dryness and then a mouthwatering sense. A very light Dill note remains in my mouth.
With 1 drop of spring water
NOSE: Light malt sweetness with a fresh note underpinning
PALATE: A Minty sweet arrival with a very light pepper. There is still an alcohol burn but lighter. A Light Dill arises as I swirl it around. There is also a light pepperiness. The mouthfeel is lighter.
FINISH: Drying to a cottonmouth with light pepper.
With 2 drops of spring water
NOSE: Very Light Malt Sweetness
PALATE: Light pepper with a bit of a chalk mouthfeel. Pepper rises from the dryness as I let it sit. There is also a hint of Dill.
FINISH: Cottonmouth dryness with a light black pepper spice on my tongue; transitioning to a mouthwatering sense.
I have really enjoyed the whiskey. It is a testament to allowing air to mix in the bottle for a number of days. I got many more notes in this sitting than when I first opened the bottle.
The mouthfeel was very creamy neat and I loved how I was able to identify the black pepper note; yet there is also the spiciness I know from un-malted barley in single potstill.. Dill and Mint are here which will be recognizable to American Rye Whiskey drinkers but the Malted Barley adds a balance of Sweetness and the Un-malted barley in the mash bill contributed to the spiciness.
In my reading, Irish distillers in the past used rye and oats and other grains to avoid the English tax on malted barley. This whiskey is distilled in the manner of Irish Single Pot Still using Malted and un-malted barley for 70% of the mash bill with 30% Rye. (Whiskey Wash) The current technical specs do not allow Kilbeggan to use the term Irish Single Pot Still, but whatever you call it CALL IT GOOD!!
As a WA resident, I love the Woodinville rye and bourbons... but especially the rye. It is fantastic neat or in mixed drinks. You should review some Dry Fly products. They have some interesting grains, and cask finishes.
Dry Fly's Tricticale whiskey is funky as hell and I love it.
Hopefully can get this and Redwood available here soon.. Would love to try both with how good they are talked about
yeah they are making delicious whiskey! Redwood too!
I found both for forty bucks each, they're so good they're gone. Mixed them half and half to make a bourye- fantastic. Availability in Colorado Springs was great two weeks ago but now most has sold out. O yeah, the price is going up!
Seems pricing is pretty inconsistent. But they are really really good. Im gonna try the mix!
Picked up a 60.55% Single Barrel Select bourbon store pick. Very good.
Its delicious stuff! Cheers!
The original has a unique flavor I haven't tasted in other whiskey's, and that's a good thing. A delicious bourbon around $40.
Good stuff at a great price. Actually $35 here in WI. Looks like you changed your lighting a little, looks great. Thanks
Wow! 35 is a deal! I did! Added some filters. Alot more even.
@@TheMashandDrum We have a grocery store chain in WI named Woodman's with large liquor stores their prices are great!
@@TheMashandDrum 35 in NY too. Love this bourbon.
I have yet to try the bourbon but l have a bottle of the rye that keeps getting push further back in my bottle collection...the pot still flavor comes forward in the rye and reminds me more of a smooth Irish whiskey than a spicy rye.
Grown in Quincy, Washington; Mashed, Distilled, and barreled in Woodinville, Washington; Aged in Quincy, Washington; and finally bottled in Woodinville, Washington.
$37.99 in Arizona!
I have a single barrel at cask strength and it's formidable.
After hearing that flavor profile I am going to grab a bottle tomorrow and test drive it. $36.99 here at Binny's
Nice! Seems like most people can get it for 40.
This is what got me into drinking again. There’s NO other. The cherry aroma is in your face. For me. The best Bourbon.
Jason, I like your reviews as they are so much more professional then some of the other reviewers out there. Some of them think they need to be funny flipping bottles and others doing all kinds of stupid stuff. Keep up the great job. You are respected for you knowledge and ability.
Can you review the OOLA Waitsburg Bourbon? I've heard good things and would love to get your take on it. Thanks.
Great whiskey. Especially the rye. I think the bottle design needs improvement. Something to make it standout on the shelf.
Tried a drink of this in a bar in WA state; found it very sweet with a nice oak finish; not cloyingly sweet though, and not overly complex. Very good, but haven’t bought a bottle yet he use in AK it’s almost $60. Lookin in Dallas currently for the $40 bottle...
There seems to be a lot of price difference depending where you are but your description is pretty spot on.
The bourbon is in my top five for the year. Made even better by getting three bottles at $30 apiece!
$34.70 for a 750ml of the straight bourbon at the base class six in Maryland. Looking forward to trying it tonight.
Sold!
I tried to absorb all your information but was saturated after roughly 9%
Damn you are smart
Lol. I'm really not. I do alot of research. The trick is trying to retain it all. Lol. Cheers buddy.
Came for the pot still bourbon, Left with this extra funky tannin flavor. It demands to be noticed and I can't get past it. Definitely unique and a result from their barrel seasoning process but it Won't be a go to sipper for me.
I can see that. It does have that root beer grain forward character
You taste root beer in the Burnside Bourbon bottles?
I have been saying this for years that Woodinville can compare against the best that Kentucky has to offer.
I personally have over 20 bottles of varying proofs and finishes from Woodinville. Four times a year they have special events were you can go and taste directly from 3 different barrels and bottle your own whiskey.
I just put up a video regarding their 10 year anniversary and I was blessed to be able to review their new triple barreled, Ardbeg finished American whiskey. They also released a new bottled in bond bourbon.
I need to get Chris over at Bourbinsane a few samples of their high proof bourbon and rye. Let me know if you want to try a couple as well.
Omg. I would love to try some of their other cask finished offerings. That ardbeg one sounds incredible
Hey my family owns that Omlin farm
Whoa! Thats amazing! Thanks for watching!
Damn I had the rye in my hands n I passed it up cuz I wasn’t familiar with it. Shame on me
There is a reason that MOET Hennessey bought them
39.99 at total wine
Please spell the name of our city correctly. Thanks!
The bourbon is very woody No creaminess. or fruitiness lol . Thankfully it was free. Not going to try the rye .
This is NOT accurate. Listen to some of the others that review this bourbon. I just bought a bottle of this WOODINVILLE Straight Bourbon 90 proof 2 days ago. Whom ever voted this "Bourbon of the Year" could not have had the same bourbon I have. Mine is overwhelming with oak tannin's and old leather saddle on the palate, a simple profile that is just weird. ALL Bourbons have hints of caramel, vanilla, fruits, brown sugar...etc. I also bought a bottle of RUSSELL'S Reserve 10 Year Old and it is xlnt! Passed on a bottle of WELLERS Special Reserve for the WOODINVILLE. Bad choice. A friend that knows whiskey tried it and he couldn't finish it. He said YUK! Said "I'll stick to my WOODFORDS or KNOB 9yr". Me too.
