6:21 -- I have an idea for a new channel. Daniel sits in a chair, sips whiskey at a rate of 1 sip every 10-20 minutes, and in between he discusses the things he hates. First episode: Springbank 10 and third-wave Ska.
Maybe just a CZcams Short channel. Super fast reviews
Fun fact: This company also makes tasty syrup. If you visit the distillery and do a whiskey flight, they give you a shot of syrup to finish it off. It pairs quite nicely! 🤤
Good Morning MB's Happy Friday
The weekend I went to Austin to drop these bottles off, Woodinville was releasing a PX and Suaternes cask finished bourbon.
It is one of the benefits to being affiliated now with Dr Bill Lumsden at Ardbeg/Glenmorangie/Hennessey.
They also now have a petite syrah, chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon cask finished bourbon.
Can you also drop some off at my house in HTX? I'm from nearby Woodinville and am lamenting not being local to them even more. 😣
That's awesome brother, would be some nice bottles to have.
I am glad that you guys were surprised by these four (including the previous two videos) it shows that even after all this time, there are things that can surprise you. And in any hobby that is a good thing.
Thank you for doing this brand, I really enjoy woodinville bourbon and I’m also from the once great state of Washington
Once great is right! Still here for now.
Recently purchased a bottle of woodinville port finished bourbon . It's hands down a great buy for the price being a finished whiskey. The flavor is absolutely amazing. Cheers Daniel and Rex !
I swear that my local watches you guys, because about 1 week after you guys have a whiskey on, it appears there on the shelves.
As always thanks for the review 🥃
really surprised you guys didn't add a drop of water
Had the opportunity to visit their distillery and tried a flight. I found the cask strength to be the most appealing. Wound up taking a couple of bottles home. Now its available at our local store, so win-win.
I can confirm they use a pot / column distillery process. Good catch!
Still on the hunt for the rye. We get very little more than the regular Woodinville in Michigan. I found a store pick and the port barrel.
Daniel just practically quoted zombieland and I smiled pretty big 😂
Like the idea of apple wood, I age my brandy and rum on appricot its sweet or pear(choclat) or mulberry wood ,or fig wood all different
2 3 4 5? That's amazing! I've got the same combination on my luggage!
GOOD AFTERNOON YOU MB'S.... 🥃
TGIF... sad it's not traditional RWF
Woodinville rye my fav. Tastes like rasberries and wicker. Bought a case.
I have been to Woodinville, and Daniel is right. They do have a hybrid still.
Captain Chaos strikes again.
Mr. Goodyear has a weird, rubber flavor ;)
Yes to the comment at 8:57. Can confirm Woodinville uses a hybrid still. Beautiful copper pot still followed by a column still.
You guys should really just go visit them, they're great people that really enjoy what they do.
Headed to Woodinville for a week. I might have to take a tour and check it out :)
Do it! The distillery is right down the road from some great wineries!
Actually a fun place to buy moonshine across the street
Good morning 🙏
Great review, as always 👏
If you can recommend me a nice wiskey or bourbon, next month is my next-door neighbor and I would like to get him something special.
As always, thank you for your reviews.
I'm curious what proof the finished Bourbon was released at? I know that Woodinville offers a 132 proof, but Rex and Dan seemed to be too easily derailed by the barrel number and the texture of coconut. Which is on point for them, and what keeps me coming back.
Cheers, MB's!
Most of their cask stuff is 120+.
I'm eyeing a barrel select cask strength and I was curious if that ethanol note ahead of the flavor is similar in that one vs spending half on the 90 proofer. Which is more worth it?
Context is everything. Can't tell you how many $30 bottles (in TX) I've passed on when I find them here in Michigan for nearly double.
I feel your struggle, I always pick up bottles of stuff I wanted to try when I go out of state. Michigan prices are ridiculous.
This is 69 or more here in Georgia, I will pass
I work 5 minutes from their distillery, actually cheaper to buy it at Costco, but more options available at the tasting room.
Welcome to Friday. We are all excited as there is a rare addition to Daniel’s dislike list in this episode. The truth is interesting.
I find myself joining in with the Patron Saint of Whiskey Dings as of late. I dunno. Group participation if you will. 🤣
Good bar blimp
I'm with you, Danial. I like the flavor but dislike the texture of coconut.
6:22 😂
I have to ask as I'm new to Rye, which Rye do you prefer?
I was my dad's "remote" but not just the TV no there were beers fetched and cracked open for him as I approached, packs of cigarettes as well packed down towards the filters cellophane and foil removed ready to pop one out and be smoked. This stemmed from his/our job he was a tree trimmer(arborist) I was his groundman from age10-21when he was up in his tree working I gopher-ed EVERYthing for him then even if the chainsaw ran out of gas he'd lower it on the climb rope I'd gas oil grease and quick start the saw "Never send me up a cold saw or I'll come down out of that tree and you'd best been running as I climbed down!"
Daniel calls a Mr.Goodbar a Mr. Goodyear! 😂
And Dan is doing an amazing job compiling Daniels dislikes. Lol
So we’ve spoken with a couple of distilleries about releasing our own brand. And they ask us, “Are you bottling it for distribution or for you and friends?” We’d like to have it on shelves worldwide, but maybe just we and the friends would be ok. What do you think?
When did Woodinville do a cask strength Bourbon finished with Applewood staves?
Lol u guys also read the sea shell comment with the glencairn in a recent episode.
I hate the texture to but like the flavor of coconut! The texture is like sawdust texture to me if i was to imagen what sawdust feels like in my month!
Payday is the peanut covered caramel bar. Mr goodbar is the chocolate bar with peanuts.
Proper sauna temperature is around 170F... Cheers or kippis from Finland
Mr Goodyear candy bar?
Not related to this as I am not a bourbon fan but... For guys and girls in the uk Lagavulin 8 is £38 in Tesco's at the moment which frankly is a good deal 🤑
Ever since Trump imposed the tariffs, Lagavulin 16 is about $100 USD now. Prior to the tariffs, it was about $70. And I live in a controlled state, which means every store legally sticks to the same price, to the penny. Now with covid inflation, bourbon and rye are increasing in price. You just can't win.
That's the sound of the Jefferson'S Ocean
Mr. Goodbar, bud
I'm the same way about coconut - LOVE the flavor, but the texture of it is like chewing on shredded plastic and there is something fundamentally wrong with consuming that intentionally.
So if you made a whiskey and then aged it in Applewood barrel. That wouldn't be legally whiskey even if you made all other requirements?
Legally, whiskey can only be called whiskey if it's aged in oak. Different whiskies will have different specifications for that oak (new vs. used), and the time rested will also determine what that whiskey can be called, but you're correct. If it ain't oak, it ain't whiskey. Oak IS the flavour of whiskey.
Good mornig Gentlemen.
mornig.. I see what you did there...
Fine…✅
"Dense Colonel"
You mean like Wilhelm Klink?
No one:
Daniel: Can I use my knife to open this simple plastic top?!?! Not necessary? Ok let me get this with the pocket knife instead....
I'm with Daniel. Like coconut flavor but hate coconut. Coconut dum dums are great.
"Applewood is the wood of an apple tree."
What about couscous? A food with a texture so bad they had to name it twice? With the first word "cous" describing the food, and the next word being used in the form of a question, "WHY?"
The reason most people don't like something is because of texture.
Woodenville is pot still
They do have a column still as well right next to the pot still.
@@bluecollarwineguy4447 that is a plate rectifier which works kind of like a column still but doesn't strip all the pot goodness out. When we did our tour we spent a solid half an hour with the distiller asking about that. I learned more in that time about distilling than I will ever need or use.
@@robzilla69 I know but it to most people it still resembles is a column still.
@@bluecollarwineguy4447 Yup I thought it was too but I was schooled by the distiller 🤣 he was rather adamant that it wasn't the same thing. 🥃
@@robzilla69 Have you had any of the other cask finished whiskies?
Did Rex really ask if apple wood came from an apple tree? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hmmmm. Is it? Or is it not? That is the question. Its not garbage duh
